Light of Dawn is a 53 page graphic novel that's equal parts fantasy, murder mystery and coming of age. Dawn Sullivan is an enthusiastic eighteen year old mage who has always dreamed of following in the footsteps of her father Elijah, an experienced mage who is also a renowned private investigator. Realizing that she's never going to give that dream up anytime soon, he officially takes her under his wing as his new partner.
In their first case as a team, the two work to solve the murder of Emma Stevens, a post-grad student who was found dead in her apartment. Throughout this arc, Dawn will explore the depths of her abilities as they relate to solving cases but Elijah is always there to make sure those abilities don’t go too far. As an experienced mage, he is well aware of the potential darkness their abilities have and will be constantly keeping watch of Dawn to make sure she doesn't cross that line.
Light of Dawn is written by Quinton Miles, author of the free digital comic series TEMPLATE. It is illustrated by Oscar Celestini, artist of Zenescope's GRIMM FAIRY TALES PRESENTS MADNESS OF WONDERLAND series and colorist of many other books including Vertigo's UNKNOWN SOLDIER. Martín A. Pérez (aka MaGnUs) will be handling the letters.
Now, on to the actual book. Check out the first five pages of Light of Dawn...

Light of Dawn will be published by the fine folks at Ape Entertainment provided this campaign is successful. A more specific breakdown can be found below, but in general, all funds raised will go directly toward the production (art/letters), printing and marketing of Light of Dawn in Previews to get it in comic stores across the country. Kickstarter/Amazon fees are covered in the breakdown as well.
While the previous campaign had a smaller goal, the intent was simply to do what we thought was a cool book and get it into the hands of people who felt the same. In that regard, nothing has really changed. We're just trying to do it on a bigger scale and properly compensate the art team while having a buffer to take care of the rewards should we make it.
If anything, seeing the response the original campaign got after it died convinced us the lack of exposure played a big part in it failing. With Ape Entertainment in our corner, a wider range of pledge tiers and (hopefully) that crowd of people still clamoring for the book, we're optimistic for a different outcome this time.
Check out the right side of the page for more details on most of the rewards. Here's a little more info on some of them:
"Making of" Book: This DRM-free CBR/PDF is our behind-the-scenes complimentary piece. It will contain the entire script for Light of Dawn, in addition to all of the sketches and misc. artwork from the series that helped create the book. It will also contain commentary on our process for certain pages that will shed some insight on why we did or didn't do certain things with the story.
Here's a sneak peek of what the variant cover found in the $70 reward tier will be inspired by. This was a sketch Oscar did to create some more interest in our last campaign, and we liked it so much we wanted to include it in this one as an added incentive. If this campaign is successful, Light of Dawn will have a print run in stores but this will be the ONLY place you can get this cover.
Here is a complete breakdown of where the funds of this campaign will go:
Printing - $3000
Shipping (Domestic/International) - $500
Rewards - $500
Production (Art & Lettering) - $5300
Kickstarter/Amazon Fees - $1000
Misc. - $500
If any of this changes along the way, you guys will be the first to know.
Oscar and I decided to give this campaign another go based on the tremendous amount of traction it got after the original one died. While we're both on other projects, Light of Dawn remains one of our favorites and we would love to bring it to you. Hopefully this time we can!

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge with "Light of Dawn" is keeping everyone on schedule to complete the book at the highest quality possible by our December 2013 estimated release date. This has been a great creative team to work with so I don't forsee any hiccups along the way , but if that happens to change during the production process, you all will be the first to know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
