Our Story

       We Build, Explain and Teach

For the last 5 years, PyroElectro.com has been diligently working to deliver the best in electronics articles with a plethora of topics ranging from RF electronics to microcontrollers. Each article follows a similar format, explaining the topic in terms of theory, software and hardware and detailing the build process from start to finish. Take a look at a few of the past topics to get a feel for the format:

Developing and publishing these articles has not only taught visitors to the site about electronics, but also pushed our own understanding of different electronics available in the world. More importantly, it has highlighted a problem for anyone curious about learning electronics: there exists a genuine lack of content available and most content that is available lacks adequate documentation and explanation. PyroElectro.com aims to fix this problem!

Our Goals

Building Our Next PyroEDU Course: Digital Electronics

The idea to create simple electronics courses and lessons anyone can follow came to us many years ago, but it wasn't until recently that we had the means to make it happen. We're proudly offering an "Introduction to Modern Electronics" course currently, which can be found here: http://www.pyroelectro.com/edu/basics/. However, after building the first course, it was immediately evident that we had just barely enough resources to complete it, and if others were to follow, we would need some help.

PyroElectro.com needs your help creating our next course, "An Introduction To Digital Electronics." With your contributions, we can create all ten lessons (plus possible additional lessons – see pledge rewards) and provide them free-of-charge to anyone with Internet access. Because we choose to keep these courses free of advertisement, we rely on your donations to fund our work. The content is designed for anyone with a high school education and a passion for learning. The specific lessons for this course are:

Standard 10 Lessons For This Course:

  • [Lesson  1]  Introduction
  • [Lesson  2]  Number Systems & Boolean Algebra
  • [Lesson  3]  Logic Gates
  • [Lesson  4]  The Karnaugh Map
  • [Lesson  5]  Designing An RS Flip-Flop
  • [Lesson  6]  Flip-Flops And Latches
  • [Lesson  7]  The Crystal Oscillator
  • [Lesson  8]  Designing A 4-Bit Shift Register
  • [Lesson  9]  Designing A 4-Bit Counter
  • [Lesson 10] Designing A Knight-Rider LED Shifter

Bonus (up to 10) Lessons For This Course:

  • [Lesson 11] 7400 Series Logic Devices
  • [Lesson 12] 4000 Series Logic Devices
  • [Lesson 13] Bonus Lesson*
  • ..
  • ..
  • ...
  • [Lesson 20] Bonus Lesson*

* Bonus lessons are contingent on pledges. See pledge rewards for details and the list of bonus lesson choices to choose from below.

These lessons cover the very basic topics that encompass modern digital hardware and provide a solid foundation for anyone wanting to learn more about the hardware side of the digital domain. The most important, and perhaps most valuable, part of these lessons is our method of taking a real-world learning approach where theory is presented and then followed by in-video experimentation. This leaves no question in any person's mind that what they are being taught is the real-deal.

Level 5 Backer Lesson Choices:

  • 7400 Series Logic Devices
  • 4000 Series Logic Devices
  • Parallelism With Digital Logic
  • The Digital Future: Programmable Logic
  • Designing An LED Light Chaser
  • Designing A 4-Bit Adder/Subtractor
  • Designing A 4-Bit Multiplexer
  • Designing A Beeping Counter
  • Digital Signals (VGA, PS/2, USB, Serial, Parallel)
  • Your own suggestion.....

If you have any questions about the content proposed in the topics seen above, please don't hesitate to contact me for a further explanation. Alternatively, if you have a topic related to introductory digital electronics that you would like to suggest, I'm open to suggestions!

Our Dreams

       Free Education Access For Everyone

The long term goal of PyroEDU is having many courses freely available to anyone with internet access. However, we remain humble in our aspirations and realize that we must take a step-by-step approach in building our content. Thus, we are asking for your help in providing the resources necessary to build a new set of informational videos for "An Introduction To Digital Electronics." Our aim is to go beyond teaching and provide a social and friendly place where students not only have easy access to the information they need, presented in a straight-forward and spot-on way, but also can interact with like-minded individuals and build a community. We also hope PyroEDU will be attractive to those who never thought they were interested in electronics because they thought it was too difficult to understand.

Risks and challenges

The success that we've had so far with the first course, An Introduction To Modern Electronics: http://www.pyroelectro.com/edu/basics/ , has given us the motivation and desire to continue building our course listings with more advanced topics. We have already planned out the lessons for this course (as you saw above) and built scripts and story boards for them, but in order to move into the implementation, phase we need additional resources to do the job correctly. We feel that because of our previous success, if we are given the correct tools, we can do an even better job at providing open access to education about digital electronics and hardware.
