LOVE AND ECONOMICS
A Zombie Squad of Artists Exploring Love and Money in the 21st Century!
Presented by: Ballhaus Ost, PushPush Theater, and Gutes Tun
“He that is the of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money.” Benjamin Franklin
Every day of your life costs money. From the day you are born until the day you die: you have to pay for it. But what would happen if everyone received only a basic income? Say…$1,700 per month, for everyone! What a wonderful world it would be...or would society spiral into chaos and communism?
The LOVE AND ECONOMICS project invites artists from America and Europe, journalists, low-income, unemployed, and wealthy people to ask questions about our current relationship to money and the value of our work in the 21st Century. This project is an open-source discussion and a path to enlightenment about a subject that drives us crazy, ruins relationships, makes us sweat, stressed, and generally unhealthy, or…perhaps just the opposite.
LOVE AND ECONOMICS is presented by companies based in Atlanta and Berlin. The Squad started as a clash of American and German cultures - a group of artists living between technical, spiritual and material worlds, and YOU! The work will be based in Ballhaus Ost, an independent Art House on Berlin’s upper east side, and PushPush Theater, an open-source film & theater organization in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. During March 18 -21, the Zombie Squad will present theater performances (such as Fassbinder's BREMEN FREEDOM), movie screenings, videos, poems, open discussions, and more – for the entire world!
Want to take part? Email us your ideas as a movie or text, and if it relates to the theme of LOVE AND ECONOMICS, we'll include it in our final presentation, along with highlights from the March events. We ask that you donate to the project at whatever level is most comfortable (kind of like a registration fee) and then, if you wish, send us your artistic contribution as well: a movie, script, a poem, comment, etc. on the subject. Then, on April 6th, the Zombie Squad will broadcast a final compilation on You Tube to our live audiences in both cities - and to the rest of the globe. Send us your honest, bold and creative responses!
LOVE: this is the first phase of a much larger project and needs artists from the US in Europe to become involved.
ECONOMICS: We need $3000 to fund the artistic (creating, presenting, etc.) and administrative (marketing, scheduling, space, etc.) costs during the first phase from now to April 6th, 2010. Though there are many reasons to build cultural exchanges between the US and Europe, Federal and State support for it is rare. We ask that you consider making a financial and/or artistic contribution, and to please spread the word about this campaign. Help us as we endeavor to open up and gain momentum for a new kind of American and European exchange!
Artists Currently Involved - If you know any of these people (and even if you don't!), they are all good reasons to pledge your support today: Nicola Ahr, Matt Stanton, George Faughnan, Evan Fillon, Tara Ochs, Tim Habeger, Shelby Hofer, Claire Christie, Jeremiah Kulani Prescott, Uwe Moritz Eichler, Volker M. Schmidt, Katharina Adler, Sebastian Schellhardt, and Rahel Savoldelli.
