Help us bring The Push Comedy Theater to Norfolk's Arts District
This summer, The Pushers (Hampton Roads' #1 sketch and improv comedy group) will open The Push Comedy Theater... and we need your help. The Push Comedy Theater will be a 90 seat theater in the heart of Norfolk's brand new Arts District. We will be hosting sketch and improv comedy shows on the weekends, as well as productions of original comedic one-acts and plays.
We want the Push Comedy Theater to be the home for comedy in Hampton Roads. To that end, The Pushers will be offering classes in sketch writing and improv comedy. There will also be classes offered in stand up comedy, acting, directing, and film production... all taught by some of the top professionals Hampton Roads has to offer.
After 9 years of performing throughout the 757, The Pushers finally have a home... and we want it to be your home too. We are not just building a theater, we are building a community. We want The Push Comedy Theater to be a place where the funny and talented people of Hampton Roads can come and make their mark... where they can help make the 757 comedy scene into something truly great, something we can all be proud of.
In January, we signed a lease on 763 Granby Street. The building is a former jewelry store, and came to our attention during Norfolk's Better Block. The building is currently going under major renovations (new HVAC system, new electrical and plumbing work, etc.). In April, we get in the building to start building the stage, lighting grid, dressing rooms, lobby and bar.
We can't wait to bring amazing shows like Panties in a Twist and the Norfolk Comedy Festival to the Arts District.
We need your help. Your generous donations will help us buy lights, chairs, a stage and the hundreds of other little things needed to make a theater come alive. We have some great (if not wacky) incentives and gifts for our awesome donors. Check back often. We will be offering more incentives as the campaign goes along.
Thank you in advance for your generous donations... let's make some amazing comedy together!!!!
Risks and challenges
We are not going to lie... running a theater is something completely new to us. At times the permits, inspections and hoops we must jump through, to make this dream come true, can be a little daunting. But we have surrounded ourselves with some really smart people who handle this stuff for a living.
Our goal is to open in early summer, but we realize there may be circumstances that could delay that a bit. We have already taken steps to ensure that our rent will be covered in case we have to push back our opening.
No matter what the case, we will be open and honest with you about our progress... if for no other reason than to hear you cheer us on.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
