Jewelry Made of Upcycled Weapons of Conflict & Artifacts
Purple Buddha Project : Supporting Artisans from Cambodia with fair-trade through jewelry upcycling artifacts from around the World.
Cambodia today not only is one of the most bombed countries in the history of mankind, but also has the largest population of Amputees in the World, where 30% of the UXO related injuries and deaths involve children.
Every jewelry piece is constructed from UXO, bomb, bullet, and plane parts from remains of conflict in the countries of Cambodia and Laos. This is done through local associations that employ artisans through fair-wage. The local association also oversees training of a viable and transferable skill.
Production of the Purple Buddha Project jewelry is done through a registered cooperative in Cambodia that is sponsored by a Christian faith U.K. based charity. Although our organization is Buddhist based, our two organization see that the ultimate goal is something much bigger than religion and realize that cooperation regardless of faith is required to make this work.
The Managing Director of the cooperative and Forrest Curran of the Purple Buddha Project. We as of the summer of 2014 began working with Rajana Craftwork Association. The Rajana Craftwork Association supplies large retailers like Ten Thousand Villages.
What is obviously a sensitive topic in the development of this project is that there is a donation aspect to it. Of course there is a Kickstarter aspect to it, but of course there is something more important that is, morality.
So in order to ensure that there is transparency in this topic, I have created a dollar pledge, the lowest amount I could set the Kickstarter to. The reason why I have done so is to create a pledge that encompasses anyone who has made of fund to my Kickstarter project that I will be transparent in the process of the movement to remove UXOs in the country of Cambodia.
IF I CANNOT fulfill this requirement, I have clearly failed the nature and the spirit of this Kickstarter and this would not be redeemable. As a lot of you would perhaps know, Kickstarter is just the beginning of many things to come, even though we might forget that the end goal is far beyond the kickstarter during the grind of it all,
I understand the magnitude of this issue and will follow through on this pledge to provide transparency into the movement to remove UXOs from Cambodia,on the reputation of this project, Purple Buddha Project.
The majority of the funds would be going towards the purchase of a Universal Laser Systems of which lasering is the Purple Buddha Project's highest variable COGS and is currently being outsourced because our cooperatives cannot afford such a high initial fixed cost. We are seeking a system with at least 45 watts.
