Most of us spend the majority of our waking hours staring at a digital screen, just like your doing now and with the advancement of technology only becoming more inherently apart of our lives, the time we spend looking at our devices are increasing. Our eyes are paying the price.
It’s taken roughly 365,000 years for our eyes to develop into the amazing mechanisms they are today, and its only taken our personal devices 35 years to evolve from a brick of a cell phone to pocket computers.
The pace at which technology is advancing is leaving our biological evolution in the dust and is taking a tremendous toll on our eyes in particular.
So what exactly is the issue?
Your body uses natural blue light from the sun to regulate your natural sleep and wake cycles. This is known as your circadian rhythm. Blue light also helps boost alertness, heighten reaction times and elevate moods. But the issue isn’t blue light from its natural source, it’s the artificial blue light that is generated by our devices that is the issue.
Our eyes are not effective at filtering out blue light since blue light has a very short wavelength (380nm-470nm | 610–670 THz) and so produces a higher amount of energy. Virtually 100% of blue light travels through the cornea and into our retina. This is a bad thing since all other visible lights and their associated wavelengths are filtered through our eyes. Studies suggest that overexposure to blue light can cause our eyes long-term damage along with other negative side effects.
Scientific studies reveal that switching to our 'night mode' setting is insufficient for protecting our eyes from blue light emission. The option to do so is available, but there is no major significance recorded.
So not only do our screens default to an orange/pink filter that ruins the browsing experience but our eyes are still taking a hit.
Screens are not going away any time soon. We’ve developed a solution to bring ease to our eyes.
We've developed a mobile screen protector that will not only protect our eyes from the blue light waves emitted from our devices but also an impenetrable barrier to protect the crap out of your mobile screen. In other words, 2 in 1 has never looked or felt so good.
Our NanoTech TGlass is similar to tempered glass, but with one major differentiator: it's non-shattering flexibility. This feature allows for impacts to be absorbed rather than repelled, preventing PURP from shattering or chipping. This is glass like never before.
With PURP's unique five-layer construction, your fingers and eyes will not know it's there when going about texting, picture taking, and everything and anything else you do with your device. We're strong believers that design is most beautiful when it's out of the user's way and PURP is just that.
Our highest priority when designing PURP was providing protection without altering the feel of our devices. We're happy to say PURP in comparison with our competitors' blocks 90% of blue light emitted from our devices while allowing for maximum color and user transmittance (94%!). In other words, you will not notice PURP is applied onto your mobile device while its hard at work. Go on and enjoy your retina screen while you browse away :)
All of the many screens we tested dulled and over-tinted our devices. Tempered glass was thick and chunky. Plastic protectors were low quality with poor touch response.
If and when our campaign surpasses our stretch goal of 75K(USD) we'll be enthused to allow supporters the ability to up their pledge in order to add in PURP for Laptop MacBook Pro (13 and 15 inches)
As our personal devices advance further, it's important to recognize that developing technologies are incredibly new in relation to human evolution. We believe our tech should alleviate strain on the user by being used more mindfully and with better design.
We're a small San Francisco-born startup focused on alleviating the strain around the tech gadgets we use through seamless design. We aim to create products that make a change for better health around our gadgets and making it the New Normal.

Risks and challenges
We’re extremely passionate about PURP and committed to doing everything to solve any challenges that may arise along the way – that’s a promise!
We have to make sure everything goes according to plan to meet our promised deadlines. We have our manufacturing and operations all ready to go, and we've made sure to leave enough time so PURP arrives as planned.
We're confident that our plan will work effectively once we're funded (we've worked hard on this!), and that we'll be putting PURP in your hands and on your device by May 2019!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
