What is Flipcard: the Postcard Challenge
Flipcard: the Postcard Challenge is a unique game that can be played thanks to a Flipcard. A Flipcard is a beautifully illustrated postcard that can be used both as a game and as a gift card. On one side of the Flipcard there will be the illustration and a grid that allow players to enjoy the game, while on the other side of the Flipcard you'll find the rules and some space for your wishes!
Do you have a friend who's not into games? Do not worry! Flipcards are meant to create moments of sharing and fun with anyone!
You are into gaming and you're gifting something special to a friend? You'll be able to play a game even before opening your present! How cool is that?
You don't believe us, right? The next 6 steps will convince you, as well as explaining you how to play!
THROW THE CARD ON THE TABLE
Toss the Flipcard on the table and make it rotate as much as you want as it hovers over the table. Remember to keep the illustration facing upwards! When the Flipcard is on the table and has stopped moving, you’re ready to play!
DOWN BID YOUR OPPONENTS
Starting with the player who tossed the Flipcard, choose a number. That is the number of flips the Flipcard will have to do on any one of its sides in order to reach the edge of the table. The next player will either have to choose to go for a smaller number of flips or pass.
SHOW YOUR MOVES
When all the players but one has passed, the winning bidder has to flip the Flipcard as many times or less as the number they bidded to show everyone they were right (or not!). Remember to reach the edge of the table!
CUT THE POSTCARD TO GET YOUR POINTS
If the bid is correct, the player cuts along the dotted line, being careful to always cut the area that contains the lowest amount of Victory Points available. If the bid is incorrect, the player still cuts the area, but they will crumple the piece of paper cut this way, keeping it in front of them. You have two crumpled pieces? You’re out of the game!
SO SIMPLE? YES!
You’ve just finished your first turn! Wasn’t that easy? Now pass the Flipcard to the player who won last round or just randomly decide who’s going to toss the Flipcard on the table for the next round! Have you noticed that now the Flipcard has a new shape?
REPEAT UNTIL YOU HAVE A WINNER
Keep playing until all the pieces have been cut from the Flipcard or as long all the players but one have been eliminated. If there are more than one non-eliminated players, those players have to sum up the Victory Points of their non-crumpled pieces. The player with the highest amount of those Victory Points is the winner!
This is also a gift card! That's why we've connected with some of the best illustrators out there to create some pieces of art that could fit for Flipcard: the Postcard Challenge!
Michael Menzel, who's remembered for games such as Stone Age and Legends of Andor, really liked our project so decided to create this amazing snowy village, that you'll be able to find on one of the Flipcards.
Every single Flipcard has its own story and its own unique way to showcase points! For example, in this Village players will have to check for the light sources scattered in the illustration! Don't worry, behind each Flipcard there will be a small hint that will tell you how the points are represented in each specific case!

PUG Studio was born one year ago thanks to the dedication and hard work of two friends who met each other while playing boardgames, Riccardo Costa and Federico Spada, almost 12 years ago.
We've always been into gaming and, after some time daydreaming about creating our own boardgame company, we've decided that the time was right! We've always wanted to create games accessible by everybody so we decided to focus on that.
That's how Play Up Game Studio, also know as PUG Studio, was born.
Flipcard: the Postcard Challenge perfectly embodies what we were looking for, while we were thinking about starting a Kickstarter project. Together with Federico Latini, the game designer of the game and our friend, we talked about having a game that could be play in minutes, easy to learn and with a special twist! Federico spoke with us about this idea he had, inspired by Ricochet Robot and its creator, Alex Randolph. He really was inspired by this game and so we were moved by this passion he showed us. We couldn't resist to the fact that the game that now we know as Flipcard: the Postcard Challenge, could be not only a game, but also a gift card that could introduce anybody to the world of board games!
All the project has been created towards the pillar of being able to print it and deliver it before 2019's Holidays. That's why we've created this Kickstarter in October.
If the project is funded, once the Campaign is finished, the Flipcards will be immediately sent to be printed and, thanks to our hubs in the U.S. and Europe, we'll be able to deliver Flipcard: the Postcard Challenge, before the Holidays, so you'll be able to use them for your presents!
Risks and challenges
We're a really small boardgame company which is facing the bigger world now. We're afraid that we'll not be getting the attention we would love having, thus not being able to meet the funding goal. We've been preparing for this Kickstarter for the past months, putting all our money and effort. This is all or nothing.
We've started with a fairly easy project, that involves only the print of these Flipcards, so we're pretty confident that this will not represent a problem, if the project is funded.
A bigger risk is represented by the logistics: we would love having the game delivered by December 2019. This is the greatest risk we're facing: not be able to fullfill our promise.
However, thanks to our knowledge in the field of logistics, we've been taking countermeasures in order to prevent delays in the shipping process.
