Our dream is to make an epic fantasy game where you and your friends have a party of adventurers who do battle in a physics-rich 3D world - a game that you can play tactically or as an action game.
Everstar is a game about a class of teenage gladiators who will charm and surprise you, follow you into danger, face their worst nightmares, and eventually tear down the world and stand atop the rubble in victory.

You could think of Everstar as: Harry Potter but with teenage gladiators or Dragon Age with improved gameplay and the deep NPC relationships from Persona 4; but Everstar is so much more!
Land of Mystery - It is a world where fallen stars walk the lands and monsters, seen only by the young, stalk the good people of Avallia. Amidst the machinations of the war-torn Kingdom, children from around the nation have been recruited to the prestigious Morningstar Academus. At this infamous military academy a group of friends must uncover the school's mysterious purpose.
Epic Conflict - How will the students of the Morningstar Academus cope with the burden of solving the school's dark mystery while coming of age and fighting for glory? How can they possibly meet the terrifying challenges before them?
Choices That Matter - What path will you travel on the road to power? To heighten the sense of urgency, some of your choices are even timed (but no QTEs, we promise). Will you be selfless, selfish, or downright despicable?
Sanity System - The game tracks the consistency of your choices. If there is no rhyme or reason behind the decisions you make you may begin to alienate your most loyal friends and followers. You might even start to go mad and reality will unbend around you.
Fantasy Timeline Simulation - Choose how to spend each day as the calendar marches on to inevitable world events. Your choices impact the lives of these heroes, so make every decision count!
Tight, Focused Gameplay - You will not waste your time wandering huge empty worlds, jogging five minutes between encounters, or being forced to grind. Each game day you will explore the story, world, and personal relationships, fight rivals and creatures, and progress your characters how you see fit.
Rich 3D Physics-driven Interactions - Slide down steep terrain, dodge arrows, block attacks, leap off ledges, knock enemies into walls, explode them. The possibilities are limitless. There are no artificial miss chances or random damage numbers - this makes tactical play in our game more fluid and realistic rather than being all about statistics and dice rolls.
Elaborate Story Events- The day-to-day groove of the game gets shaken up by calendar events, as shown in the 'Cendant Heist' video below. These are the big encounters your characters have been training for, and they often feature intense, timed decisions to make.
Tactical Control - Pause the combat at any time to give orders to your party - you can instantly jump from character to character and directly control them, actively block attacks, and use your powers. You also have the option to zoom back into tactical mode and let the combat AI take over.
Smart AI- Created with powerful behavior trees, our AI imbues your party with life as they flank, block, combo, and use their abilities intelligently even if you haven't given them direct orders.
Deep Progression - A job-based skill system means you can customize and optimize every member of your party to your hearts content.
Want to make a sword & shield mage? A stealthy two-handed axe brute? A deadly bow sniper who can heal? A party full of archer-thaumaturges? Everstar lets you do all of that and more.
Each character can 'kit swap' their weaponry, so changing from ranged to melee, from offense to healing, or from stealthy to loud - is only a button press away.
For example, in the 'Cendant Heist' demo video below, Tessa has equipped skills from the Battler and Bowman jobs, Yona has skills from the Luminary and Battler jobs, and Opal has gone deep into the Scholar path to combine skills from the Understudy and Thaumaturgist job. Your own choices at this point could (and probably will) be quite different!
Everstar isn't just a bunch of ideas and pretty pictures - we've already spent many long hours and late nights building its characters, systems, and pipelines into real gameplay. It's already a living, breathing universe, ripe for adventure!

We've tried to create stretch goals that will not delay the game release - we don't want you to wait longer in case a ton of people are generously backing Everstar. For each of these features we should be able to bring on additional help to get them done on time.
We are Psycho Sorted, a new independent studio comprised of games industry veterans. We love high-end games with a passion, but feel that the big business developers are losing their way. We believe that intelligent and beautiful people (like you!) just love great games, and we want to build them for you.
In the Everstar proof-of-concept we were privileged to collaborate with a cast of top-tier voice actors. We have more amazing talent lined up for other roles too. We are planning to use voice-over in all major scenes, but if we us reach our Fully Voiced stretch goal we will record voice-overs for ALL the dialogue in Everstar!
We have a big story to tell with Everstar and a lot of gameplay to give, but if we seek funds from a publisher or venture capital at this point we would have to sacrifice control of the game's direction and ownership of the IP.
The majority of the budget is for the full production phase of the game - high end game content is expensive and time consuming to make. The graphics of our proof-of-concept demo are placeholder and will be improved significantly!
Risks and challenges
Everstar is a very complicated software project, so delays are possible. For example, Unity3D is a proven but closed-source technology. We are reliant on them for a stable, performant, cross-platform environment. Everstar is state of the art on many fronts and we are pushing Unity in ways it has never been pushed before. As such it will be a challenge to keep optimization and console integration within the schedule.
We have developed the most complex systems ahead of time to mitigate risk (e.g. 3D combat, networked gameplay, asset pipelines, console and PC control schemes). Our team members have all worked on big 3D games many times, and we are confident that our estimates are solid.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
