Proxy War is bringing tabletop gaming into the 21st century, letting gamers create fully custom models online, and then get them 3D printed in ultra-fine detail. Log onto a database of parts, select chassis, torsos, limbs, weapons, mutations, powers, and technology, and clip them together into a unit that is uniquely yours. You can also partner with our design staff to create a custom unit entirely from scratch. Our service lets you make anything you can imagine—from RPG characters to whole wargame armies.
3D printing is going to revolutionize miniature gaming—and that revolution starts now!
Click on the two videos below to see examples of Proxy War’s two types of fully custom models—original and personalized.
Fine Detail is currently the best resolution material available for 3D printing. With better than 25 microns of resolution, the detail on these models is superior to current finecast models. Compatible with traditional model painting supplies.
Advantages: Gorgeous, affordable, takes paint well.
- Disadvantages: Unavailable for Huge and Titan scale models.
Regular Reinforced is an incredibly strong material. At a recent con, we played catch with our tanks, tossing them to volunteers and passer-bys. Despite being dropped many times, they never once suffered any visible damage. Compared to current modeling resin and plastic, they're functionally indestructible. Resolution is roughly equal to current non-finecast miniatures.
Advantages: Good detail, damage resistant.
Disadvantages: Somewhat less detail than Fine Detail. Material requires wash before painting.
Colored Sandstone is exactly what it says on the tin—artificial sandstone, mixed with dye when it’s still in the liquid phase and then 3D printed in 256 colors. With Colored Sandstone, you can not only paint your minis online, but add designs, patterns, icons, etc, to be printed right into the material.
Advantages: Comes in full color. Has a much more solid feel than plastic. Perfect for titans and buildings.
- Disadvantages: Slightly lower resolution than standard tabletop models.
When you order a personalized Proxy War model, you log onto our database of parts and grabs torsos, limbs, chassis, mutations, powers, equipment, and technology. You then clip them together like lego to create an entirely custom model you can pose and personalize to your tastes. Personalized models can be 3D printed in any of our three materials.
Proxy War has four levels of personalized models:
Regular models, which are printed in any material and are up to 28mm tall (or on their longest axis).
Heavy models, which are printed in any material and are up to 50mm tall (or on their longest axis).
Huge models, which are printed in sandstone or regular-reinforced plastic and are up to 120mm tall (or on their longest axis).
Titan models, which are printed in sandstone or regular-reinforced plastic, and are up to 240mm tall (or on their longest axis).
All of our models are fully customizable to every detail, and can be printed in alternate materials by request. We can also print terrain pieces on all of the above scales. Below are examples of every level of unit, as well as of our personalization options.
When you order an original Proxy War model, you partner with a three man design team: a character artist, an illustrator, and a 3D modeler. They work with you full time to go all the way from a concept to a finished high-detail prototype. We then help you share your creation with the community, putting it up on our website and giving you full credit.
Proxy War original models are made with a six step process:
Bundled free with models, the Proxy War tabletop game combines all the flexibility and creativity of RPGs with the quick-paced tactical depth of tabletop wargames. Our point-based unit creation system lets players field any sort of army—from swarms of units rallied by powerful leaders, to small squads of elite adventurers facing down numberless hordes. RPG players will find all the flexibility in character design they expect, now realized in a tabletop wargame, while wargamers will find a quick and simple system that offers endless combinations of special abilities and tactics.
Step 1: Create or Select Units
Units can be created on the spot or brought in from elsewhere. Our unique "scramble phase" army-generation system ensures that you're never defeated before the game starts just because you brought the wrong army. Using a simple point buy system, combine base stats with special abilities to put together any unit imaginable, generating your army in waves in response to your opponent's recruitments. A fundamentally balanced core system provides room for hundreds of different types of effects without making any one overpowered.
Step 2: Fight!
Balanced custom armies face off against each other, vying for advantage and crushing the opposition. Advantages and special abilities change the way the game plays constantly, so no two battles are the same. Specialists, Hordes and Heroes take actions in turn until one player emerges victorious. The Proxy War tabletop game supports squads of everything from five-hundred mooks to five elite heroes. An innovative impact-based rolling system ensures turns never run long or feel inconsequential.
Step 3: Victory
It's not about winning, it's about having fun. But you know what’s fun? Winning. Proxy War offers any number of ways to win, from crushing your opponents forces to completing key mission objectives. Different game modes support everything from 2 to 6 players, in competitive or cooperative battles.
More on Proxy War’s unique D6 system and unit creation rules will be released in project updates over the course of the Kickstarter.

Destructible terrain is here! Build cities, bunkers, and landmarks and then storm them in intense room-to-room fighting—or just blow them to pieces! The Proxy War Destructible Terrain stretch goal introduces new modular building components, allowing you to create custom structures for each game.
Buildings are fully fleshed out, both inside and out, allowing your forces to garrison within them or attack them in intense close quarters combat. The modular construction even allows buildings to be destroyed in play, as components are shot off or walls smashed in.
Destructible Terrain introduces:
50 different frame and wall components, allowing the construction of over 500 unique structures.
100 building interior models—everything from desks to dangerous industrial equipment to stockpiled boxes of weapons.
New rules in the Proxy War tabletop game for damaging fortifications, storming fortified compounds, and weakening buildings with explosive charges.
If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll expand previous backer rewards. Everyone who ordered models or the Proxy War hardcover rulebook gets a pack of framework pieces, and everyone gets access to personalized and original destructible terrain!
Building on Proxy War’s new Destructible Terrain set, Prison Break is a scenario/terrain pack that pits alien prisoners against overwhelmed guards in a desperate struggle for survival. Two to six players vie for their very lives in a high-action escape from the Pandora Facility, struggling to keep the facility intact, or to do as much damage as they can on the way out.
Prison Break introduces:
The massive, modular, and destructible Pandora Facility with over 500 different combinations. Integrate into any custom terrain of your choice to create futuristic facilities or bases.
A variety of prison equipment that can be seized and repurposed, including surgical equipment, improvised explosives, and power loaders. Add to your custom terrain to bring new depth and realism to your games!
New models for each of the three starter armies, including human scientists and Vana and Nakara experiments.
If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll expand previous backer rewards. Everyone who ordered models or the Proxy War tabletop game hardcover rulebook gets the Pandora Facility destructible terrain starter pack, including prison walls, floors, and an alien containment cube.
A titan is more than a unit with bigger numbers. Be they giant robots or monsters from beyond the stars, when these units take the field, the blood of their enemies runs in rivers. This Proxy War expansion introduces hundreds of new Titan-scale parts to the database, allowing you to field fully custom behemoths. Menace your opponents or terrify your players with some of the largest units ever brought to the tabletop. Gods of War also introduces new rules to the Proxy War tabletop game, allowing you to field a single titan as an entire squad or army. Each behemoth you create is totally unique, with independently targetable parts and pools of interacting special abilities, adding new tactical depth to your game.
Gods of War introduces:
Modular parts! All models can now have detachable, modular parts—everything from limbs that can be swapped for alternate loadouts, to armored plates that ‘shatter’ and deform as the unit takes damage. Create mighty units that change from game to game or even over the course of play.
10 new Gods of War Titan models, each with over a dozen different mutations, weapons, or pieces of gear. Thousands of unique combinations! Starting titans include dragons of all colors, giant robots powered by steam or the atom, and biological horrors from beneath the sea or beyond the stars.
New Boss Monster rules for the Proxy War tabletop game, allowing you to field whole squads or entire armies as a single unit, with individually targetable parts, interacting special abilities, and mighty new Titan-Scale powers and weapons.
If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll expand previous backer rewards. Everyone who ordered models can now get them printed with modular parts, letting you swap loadouts or inflict battle damage over the course of play! Everyone who ordered a copy of the rules will also get the new Gods of War appendix, containing rules for kaiju, boss fights, and titan-scale encounters.
Building on the mighty titans introduced in Gods of War, Xenolight Reckoning pits you against the might and cunning of the mutant tyrant Jeffery Light and his pet giant warbeasts. 2-6 players field numerous factions, from government forces sent to cleanse this world of its genetic horrors, to Light’s treacherous VP of Security, eager to claim his title. Maneuvering and skirmishing builds up to a climactic boss fight with the giant himself!
Xenolight Reckoning introduces:
5 mutant warbeast titan models. Add Fluffums, the Destroyer of Flesh to your army, and watch her play fetch with the limbs of your enemies. All of their mutation parts will be available in the Proxy War database, allowing for dozens of new custom models.
10 new civilian models, ranging from vehicles you can capture and convert to your side, to mutant employees, to valuable agents you must retrieve. Parts and models are useful for any modern or sci-fi game.
20 new pieces of terrain, including buildings, billboards, comm towers, loot, and more!
The Proxy War tabletop game’s first boss monster, The Titan of Light. This 14’’ tall behemoth dominates the tabletop, smashing destructible terrain to splinters and units to paste in the final, climactic struggle. Titan comes in full color sandstone or beautiful plastic.
If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll expand previous backer rewards. Everyone who ordered models gets access to new Titan Power Shards—custom color sandstone tokens that depict unit powers with full illustrations. The back of the token lists stats, letting you use them to track spells, powers, or special abilities in any RPG or tabletop wargame. Fans of the Proxy War tabletop game also get a new playable faction, the Xenolight Consortium.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The biggest challenge Proxy War faces is not whether or not we succeed- but the timeframe in which we do. We’ve spent nine months building a team and dev structure geared toward making a database of modular parts and creating an Original unit service designed to get players exactly what they want as effectively as possible. The simple fact is, we are committed to seeing this to the end and equipped to do so, but creating original models takes time. If we get orders for dozens or hundreds of fully original models, it will take time to integrate them all into our database, and that could delay release.
To make sure this isn’t a problem, we’ll be taking the following steps:
1) We will start work on original models the day after the Kickstarter finishes, prioritizing game devs and other people who need their original models urgently.
2) We will focus on integrating widely used content—like steampunk parts or starship minis—before more obscure content, like historically accurate revolutionary war uniforms. This will let people ordering personalized models order them early.
3) If we get more orders than our current printer setup can handle, we will be buying 3D printer time from an industrial print shop with a capacity of over 10,000 units per month. This ensures that there will be no delays in getting the models printed.
As Canada is technically America’s hat, you do not have to pay for international shipping. Sadly, Kickstarter’s automated shipping cost calculator is not smart enough to understand this fact, and keeps trying to demand payment in maple syrup. We’ve tried working things out with Kickstarter, but they’re inflexible in this regard. Canadian donors should just donate the appropriate amount for what they want without paying shipping. We’ll record your reward level in the post-KS survey and get your rewards to you promptly.
You retain all rights to your character and creative content. We own copyright on the 3D model itself, but that's it. That way, you keep your character, but we can still put the 3D model parts into our database and keep our prices low. If for some reason it is not acceptable for your model bits to go into our database, we can keep them "quarantined," but there is an additional fee per bit.
Your models look awesome but my painting skills are sub-par, and I don’t want to ruin my sweet models. Do you guys offer a painting service?
Our sandstone models come in full color, but if you simply must have the beauty of fine detail or the invulnerability of regular reinforced, we do offer model painting for a small additional fee. More details will be released soon, but our extra cost for painting a regular-scale model is going to be between $3 (table-presentable) to $25 (one damn fine mini). Larger models will cost a bit more -- details forthcoming.
Yes! We can do that, as an Original mini—your picture counts as submitted concept art. Our design team is skilled and dedicated at taking your input and making it into a little plastic reality, whether that input comes in the form of a novel series, two paragraphs, or a photo album.
Post-release, we will be using our retail price, which will be between ten and twenty percent higher than Kickstarter pricing. The exact percentage will vary because in the next year, 3D printing is going to undergo its own revolution, drastically decreasing price and increasing availability. In the long run, we have an eye toward even allowing you to print your models at home and skip out on paying a manufacturer.
We are not doing addons this campaign. We're doing multiple reward levels. If you want a bigger pack of models, you can select extra reward levels, or swap around different model sizes in the reward packs.
Yes, we do terrain! Terrain is designed exactly the same way as regular models—the only difference is it’s a little cheaper. Since buildings tend to have more solid, geometric designs, we can hollow them out inside, meaning it takes less plastic to make them. How much less depends on the exact building design, but everyone who orders terrain will get a little bit of store credit after it's done to reflect the lowered cost.
Yes, we do starships, starfighters, rockets, space-stations, satellites, and spacecraft of all kinds, including stands so that they can “fly” above the table. They are priced exactly like regular models. This is available by default, but look to windward for stretch goals that may expand spacecraft options.
We take commissions for nearly anything; this being a wargame, we have no limitation on violent content. We do not model or produce art of sexual acts or genitalia. We also reserve the right not to produce material we deem offensive, including but not limited to, racist or bigoted content.
If I want something printed in sandstone, does it cost more? Is there a difference in cost between the materials?
All materials cost exactly the same during the Kickstarter. That may not be true after the Kickstarter though.
Are you guys going to have cool models of women? Are you going to have hot babes? Where are the power suits for ladies?
Our database will contain a wide variety of male and female models, with endless options for all of your badass, sexy, or battle-ready needs. Our power armor is thus far wholly unisex, but if you want to customize your power armor to be noticeably less unisex, that’s between you and your smoking hot all-female space marine force, or mega-muscle giant-hammer-wielding Viking brigade.
