About

I'm going to help you build him,

This is a groundbreaking release in detail and functionality. 3D Printing is the future of manufacturing and you will be a part of that. The entire suit is 3D Printed, minus the clothing and electronics. I want to give you the files and instructions so that you can make your own fully wearable, displayable, and functioning suit.

Check out this recent news article about the suit and project: https://www.3dprintingmedia.network/3d-printed-darth-vader-suit/

What:

I want to make four new suits for you and a series of videos and instructions that outline every detail of how to print, assemble, finish, wire, and sew the entire suit. Once completed the 3D printing files and instructions will be released to the public so that anyone can make one. The entire suit is of my own design and invention, taking over a year of designing, printing, and testing parts and electronics before getting to this point. Everything but the clothing and electronics is 3D printed making this one of the most detailed and fully usable 3D printed suits out there. I have a fully working prototype that you can see in the pictures and videos. What you will be doing is helping me create 4 more suits to use as the basis for the instructions and videos so that anyone can print, assemble, wire, and sew their very own suit.

Visit me and see the suit on September 14th at the Maker Faire Vancouver

Why:

All of us have a desire to be more. To be something that is bigger than us. For many, the desire to be bigger comes from the stories we read and the movies we watch. I grew up watching Star Wars and seeing myself in the characters and stories it portrayed. From the reluctant hero and the outsider looking for redemption to the rise and fall of one of the greatest antagonists in cinema. I want to bring all this to you and 3D Printing, show you how to create the suit with your own hands, and give you the chance to be something much bigger.

It is amazing the amount of work and detail that people put in to their costumes. Star Wars has a dedicated following of passionate people creating and making wonderful one of a kind costumes and memories. I want to give everyone the ability and skills to make the absolute best for themselves. It is about education and your interpretation of what looks and works best.

The Suit and Parts:

Wearable and display ready, this has more detail and gadgets than you will find on anything else like it. There are many different versions and custom designs of Vader all over the world from direct movie props to home made costumes. All wonderful in many ways yet I have not found any that can do what I have.

If you have ever worn something like this you know that sweat and fog are one of the worst things for long term use. There is a built in cooling system in the helmet to make wearing the whole thing as easy as possible.

A built in voice changer links to a microphone inside the helmet. Hidden in a way that makes it look to be part of the helmet. The microphone lets you talk and sound like Vader. This will never be perfect considering James Earl Jones's voice is different than yours, the voice changer simply changes the quality of your voice. You will need to practice the way you speak and the inflections in your voice to make it perfect.

Anyone that has put on realistic props knows that keeping cool is one of the hardest things to do. To make the suit as comfortable as possible there are built in fans that keep your head cool and the lenses clear from fog.

Many of the parts snap together using extremely strong neodymium magnets. Taking the suit on and off does take time, yet the magnetized and spring loaded components save you more time than you may realize.

The entire suit is not only ready to wear but ready to show off as a display. Why keep something this intricate and detailed hidden away in a closet? Use the display stand and take the pieces off to show to every fan that asks.

Securely locked in place making the helmet easy to move around with. Bend down and turn your head with ease without anything falling off.

All of the buttons on the control box work. Ranging from the activation of the breathing sounds to common speaking lines from the movies, the SFX can be totally customized to anything you would like.

On the chest box and belt there are lights that are fully automated to randomly blink on and off. Giving the suit the look that it is fully on and working.

I have designed custom PCBs that fit inside of the chest box and belt boxes. The PCBs link multiple computer controllers, batteries, amplifiers, speakers, and lights together to make it work seamlessly and reliably. The prototype has way more wiring than anyone would want to deal with, so I made this simpler and more elegant for you.

The shoulder armor easily pulls over your head and locks together using a spring loaded cable system. Two straps pull over built in clips making the whole thing strong and secure.

Engraved right into the shoulder armor is the Sith Code and two symbols of the Sith and the Empire. Never forget your pledge and where your allegiance lies.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
 Through passion, I gain strength.
 Through strength, I gain power.
 Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
 The Force shall free me.

The body suit, cape, and all other clothing are sewn by me. Even if you are not comfortable sewing you can easily have someone use the patterns included in the instructions to create your custom fitted body suit and accessories. The gloves and boots are ordered separately.

Rewards:

Clothing - There are limited edition T-Shirts and Sweatshirts that are designed with a one of a kind logo. They will only be made for those that support this project. Great for conversation starters at parties!

Designs and Instructions - The reward for this is at a discount compared to how much it will cost at full release. Get in now if you know that this is a project in your future. You will get the 3D printing files and instructions.

Limited Suits and Parts - There are three options for those that want to have a working suit or parts shipped to them. You can claim a helmet, the upper body parts, or the entire suit. The full suit options are the same ones that will be created while filming and writing the instructions. All shipped in padded crates to prevent unnecessary damage.

Thank you for supporting this project. I hope to see you wearing one of these suits soon!

Disclaimer: this suit and all items depicted are of my own design and interpretation. Modelling my own body dimensions in 3D CAD software, I designed the suit and components in their entirety from my own imagination. This suit is not based off of a  movie or image, it is designed to fit working components, and for usability. With this understanding, the suit and this campaign are being used as as both an educational tool for a set of instructions, and as an artistic adaption of an existing character. Those that receive the proposed cosplay costumes, campaign rewards, and those that choose to build their own suit using my instructions (goal of this campaign) understand that all of these items are not a representation of the character and are instead an artistic representation for educational, comedic, parody, and/or criticism purposes (Fair Use Laws).

Risks and challenges

Creating 4 suits and the instructions for the final release will be an extremely time consuming endeavor. The prototype is finished and the printing files are ready, it is simply the time to create and finish each suit and then edit and finalize the instructions that will take many months of work.

Depending on 3D printer breakdowns and time to print each part, the completion of all the suits may take up to a year.
