Kipling said the female of the species is more deadly than the male.
These women prove it. They prowl and stalk, fight and claw through their stories--predators, fierce and alone, the essence of Kipling's warning.
Join the hunt.
We also believe in giving new and rising voices an opportunity to be heard, and we’ve chosen the best of the more than 150 new stories received through our open submission earlier this year:
Tonia Brown Aubrey Campbell Vince Carpini
Epiphany Ferrell R. James Gauvreau S. Gepp
R. Z. Held Jessica Lévai M. Lopes da Silva
Leann M. Rettell Ken Schrader Lucy Stone
Ash Tudor Calandra Usher Janet Walden-West
Where did this project come from?
Margaret McGraw has a tendency to spark new projects at conventions. DragonCon 2017 inspired one of her fellow panelists to say “predators in petticoats”, and Margaret immediately claimed it as an anthology title. Cecilia Dominic, Susan Griffith, and Emily Leverett were quick to come on board, and by the end of the weekend, a broad plan was in place. Fast forward to World Fantasy Con in November 2018, when Emily and Margaret pitched the project to publisher Jason Graves at Prospective Press--and he liked it enough to commit on the spot. Our slate of invited authors was quickly filled, and our open call for submissions attracted over 150 new stories.
What’s the plan?
The Editors have worked together on three previous anthologies, and we have a fairly straightforward timeline in place:

- Professional proofreader will provide manuscript for final approval

What’s the budget?
The bulk of funds raised are going right back to the creators who made this book possible--the Authors and Artists. The Editors and Publisher have experience with Kickstarter anthologies, so we have the production budget well in hand, including cover art and design, proofreading, printing, and shipping. Any additional monies raised will be used to increase pay for the creators.
Established in 2015, Prospective Press is a vigorous small press specializing in fantasy, horror, and other speculative fiction. Among our thirty-plus books, we have published four anthologies—Tales From the Old Black Ambulance and three volumes in the Off the Beaten Path series. Prospective Press produces books in the traditional way—a commitment to quality and a keen interest for compelling content. However, the company also keeps an eye to the future, watching for ways to make one’s reading experiences even more enjoyable and satisfying. From the Piedmont region of North Carolina, Prospective Press brings its world of quality genre fiction and select non-fiction and invite readers to join them in Seeing the Future.
Risks and challenges
We've been doing this for a while and have successfully launched over thirty titles, but we recognize that life happens. There's always the chance that delivery of the book could face unexpected delays in the production process. Every effort will be made to have the books ready for release and in your hands by November 2019. We have recruited a terrific slate of talented writers for this anthology. If unforeseen circumstances keep one of them from completing their story, we will fill their spot with a comparable tale by one of their exceptional peers. Everyone involved in the project are professionals in the field, and we hold each other to the highest standards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
