A cinema documentary about nature, evolution and the future of childhood.

THE FILM

What will happen if we raise a generation of children completely out of touch with nature?

Filmmaker David Bond thinks Mother Nature needs a helping hand. His children are fascinated by screens but are strangers to the natural world. Childhood is different to when he grew up - so many distractions compete for children’s time and attention. David appoints himself the Marketing Director for Nature and, with the help of marketing experts, he sets out to convince apathetic consumers, and his family, of the benefits of this amazing, free, wonder product. His journey takes him across the world as he attempts to untangle the complex web of agendas, fears, policies and habits that disconnect him and his family from the natural environment. Project Wild Thing finds hilarity, joy and absurdity in the choices we face as 21st Century humans. What happens when we forget we are natural animals?

Project Wild Thing is an ambitious, feature-length, stunt documentary for international theatrical, TV, film festivals and public screenings. The film has an international appeal, and will inspire viewers to rethink their own relationship with the natural environment.

THE NATURE CONFESSIONAL

30 potted plants, 12 people, two days & one topic - Nature.

As part of our continuing mission to explore nature and what it means to people, we set up a Nature Confessional booth at a recent Good For Nothing event. Here is some of our findings.

PLEASE HELP US!

We have shot lots of the film and have some fantastic footage. We need to shoot more key scenes, and then edit the film to bring it all together. That's where we need your help.

We have the research, the footage, the science and the stories to finish the film, but we don't have the funds!

Any pledge you make today will go towards finishing the film. We want people to see this film and to get them asking the questions that will affect the future of our children and our planet for generations to come. This documentary has the potential to spark huge debate in the UK and the rest of the world.

Kickstarter will only release the money to us if we reach our goal of £30k.If we don't reach our goal, you will get your money back. Please pledge - even if it's a small amount - it will all help to get this film made. Once you have pledged, share the project with your friends and family and ask them to pledge too, it will make your pledge worthwhile and will help us to reach our goal. Without you, we cannot finish the film. Please choose a reward, join us and be a part of this important film project.

THE FACTS

A report from Natural England (2009) found that fewer than 10% of children play in wild places, compared with 40% a generation ago. The distance children roam away from home has shrunk by 90% in 30 years. Children don't play outside nearly as much as they once did.

At the same time, studies show that child wellbeing in the developed world has been rapidly decreasing over the last ten years. According to the Office of National Statistics, one in 10 children in the UK, aged between five and 16, has a clinically diagnosed mental health disorder.

In 2007, Unicef published a table of 21 economically advanced countries. It compared several indicators, including poverty, family relationships, health and safety and education, that might affect the wellbeing of children. Top of the list were the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. At the bottom, in 21st place, was the UK, just below the US. The report concluded that children growing up in the UK and US were the unhappiest in the industrialised world.

This film asks if child happiness and outdoor play are related. Is a disconnection from the natural world affecting our health and happiness? Children across the developed world stay indoors more. Their parents are fearful of traffic and strangers. And kids themselves are happy to spend hours staring at screens. Kids rarely play out anymore - no matter where they live. Does this matter?

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

This Kickstarter funding is a good portion of the funds we need to help us get the film made, but there's still lots to do, so the more we can raise the better!

Our most recent feature film ERASING DAVID played across the world in cinemas, on TV and at film festivals. We believe, with your support, this film will reach an even bigger audience.
