Project: Interaction is a 10 week after school program that teaches high schoolers to change their communities using design.
We're kicking off this fall with a partnership at the Urban Assembly Institute of Math & Science for Young Women. We'll be working with a group of 15 students to teach them creative ways to approach the problems they observe in the world around them.
After participating in our program students will understand and be able to articulate that design is a creative process that includes problem solving, ideation, and prototyping, and that it can be applied to any school subject or future career option.
Our Curriculum
The first few lessons focus on design basics: defining design, brainstorming ideas and observing the world around us. We'll take a field trip to NYC-based digital agency, R/GA, and spend a few weeks in more intense studies before finishing the program with a final project. We're excited to work with Transportation Alternatives in our last few weeks to help students re-imagine the street as a community space. Read more about our curriculum on our website.
Using New York City as a catalyst for creative thought and exploration, we will challenge students to approach problems using a variety of design methods. Students will be encouraged to tackle issues that matter to them with the prospect of creating viable solutions. During class students will learn valuable skills in storytelling, communication, creative thinking and problem solving while being exposed to interaction design as a potential career opportunity.
Now the good stuff!
