The Project: First Dates Story
Within our world of technology and apps it is clear that apps and sites all connect us, but they also in a way keep us divided. I, like many others work on a computer all day. I get out of work and crave a connection with people. Some conversations just stay on the surface level and that is something I wanted to fix for myself. But I knew that I was not the only one.
After being a part of a biking event, I found myself at a table with a group of people I had never met before. We grabbed a card game off of the shelf and instead of playing by the rules we used the questions on the cards. It had a great effect and I got to connect and learn about them. To this day they are friends of mine and have helped cultivate a new concept of questions and story telling the is now Project: First Dates.
Project: First Dates was built out of the desire to connect with people beyond the surface level questions, I had to think further because dating apps often have the problem of resulting in a "fizzle out" effect where the individuals never even make it beyond a basic conversation online. So why not apply the concept to a dating event where PFD can help facilitate dates and help individuals connect with one another.
Project: First Dates as an event runs similar to a speed dating event but enhances elements that I found to be "robotic". PFD events run with less people and give each date a longer time frame for those individual dates.
How the Game Works
Card Deck Layout:
The individual with the longest hair will go first.
That individual will draw a Category card. These are the Categories:
Then the player will draw from the question card deck and ask the question from the selected category!
Each player will have a point bank. YOU KEEP YOUR PARTNER'S POINTS.
After a question is asked the player who asked the question will then score the other player's answers using one of two point scoring systems.
Players can expand the card deck with one of the 3 expansions. Each expansion question will cost 2 points to ask from the new categories.
The points in the game are much like those from "Whose line is it anyway" The points don't matter. They are just a tool to help you connect with your partner. So don't hog the points. SPEND them!
Project: First Date Events
The Project: First Dates Singles Mixer events give singles the chance to mingle and meet at public locations where everyone involved will wear an armband to help signal to others that they are part of the singles event. Every guy/ girl will receive an individual card with 5 questions to ask a girl to get to know them. If the meeting goes well they can choose to take a table nearby and continue the date with a full deck of cards.
The Deep Connection events are for 10 guys and 10 girls (Or more)
12-15 minute individual dates using the PFD Card game. The events will have age ranges like 30-45, 40-55, 50-65.
There will be expansion oriented events as well including pet lovers events, LGBTQ events, and NERDY events.
Players can "Match" or "Friend" one another after a date.
These events are going to get experimental where some may take place as part of larger events or combine other services such as local bus tours and more.
Project Funding STRETCH GOALS
Risks and challenges
The challenge currently is not within production but to implement PFD with an active audience. The popularity of this Kickstarter combined with the financials to make new events happen will allow for this to grow. Events are already being hosted in St Petersburg for free to grow the audience and test out the functions of the game to perfect it.
I have freely invested my time and money to host events in an effort to gain fans and to connect people on match making dates to see if the concept works.. So far the game as I have seen it works wonderously!
However it is a matter of whether or not people attend the events even if they buy a ticket. Event attendance is a very important fact when running these events. The true product of the events is the people with one another. Project: First Dates is just a tool to facilitate connection.
So the biggest challenge will be the make sure the events become fun and popular event locations on nights that will work for local businesses so they can profit from drink sales and the game itself can run flawlessly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
