Project EcoSoap is soap for the truly eco-friendly and socially conscious. It's soap on a mission.
Every bar is made from 100% recycled soap, handcrafted by women in developing countries, scented with exotic essential oils, and shipped with zero-waste packaging.
And for every bar we sell, we're able to donate a hundred bars to children and families in need.
Millions of bars of soap are thrown away from hotels around the world every day. That's tons of soap heading to landfills.
Meanwhile, children suffer from deadly diseases that could've been prevented if they'd simply had access to soap.
Project EcoSoap is a bold new way to enable anyone to help solve both problems just by washing their hands.
Project EcoSoap is an initiative of Eco-Soap Bank, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We've been carrying out our mission to save, sanitize, and supply recycled soap from hotels in developing countries to schools, hospitals, and village communities since 2015.
We employ economically disadvantaged women to collect tons of gently used soap from hotels. We run all that soap through a three-stage, lab-certified sanitization process. All of our production lines regularly undergo rigorous inspections by government standards boards. The result is ultra-clean—so clean you could eat it, if it weren't soap :)
We've already prevented hundreds of tons of soap from heading to landfills, employing 147 women in 10 countries to provide more than 1.1 million people with clean, lifesaving soap.
And now we're thinking bigger.
We'll use 100% of the funds we raise through this campaign to implement brand new production lines devoted to manufacturing our Project EcoSoap prototypes at scale. This includes:
- Hiring 45 more economically disadvantaged women as soapmakers, providing them with steady, fair-wage employment.
- Purchasing specialized soap finishing equipment to maintain a high standard of quality at a fast rate of production.
We have virtually no net costs associated with soap collection, and we're able to keep other costs low by utilizing much of our existing infrastructure.
After the campaign, we'll provide frequent updates on our progress. We pledge to be as transparent as possible about how your support is getting put to use.
We intend to ship in time for the 2019 holiday season.
- Campaign run: May 2019
- Initial hiring, purchasing, installation, and training: June–July 2019

We've consulted with Fortune 500 companies, soapmakers, and chemists to craft the perfect bar of recycled soap with high-quality, culturally significant ingredients.
In fact, we're naming each Project EcoSoap variety after a country we work in.
These are long-lasting bars with long-lasting scents—for a clean like no other.

Risks and challenges
One of the greatest challenges we face is keeping our distribution as environmentally (and financially) sustainable as possible. Eco-Soap Bank has worked abroad since 2015 and has engaged in a fair amount of international shipping. However, since we've never produced a consumer-oriented product, we don't have extensive experience with last-mile distribution. We're currently working to tackle this challenge with a small team of logistics consultants—and we'll be sure to provide updates on our progress.
Another challenge we've faced so far is ensuring that the right kinds of soap are available in the right places, in the right quantities, at the right times. Given that our soap collections from hotels can yield variable amounts, this was originally the primary challenge we had to overcome. Since then, we've been able to solve this problem largely thanks to a more mature and established network of steady partnerships with hotels. Our soap supplies still vary, but we now have many options to make our recycling formula work. Nonetheless, we'll have to continue to monitor our supplies to ensure that production remains smoothly on track.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
