Bradford, West Yorkshire, England I think it's safe to say that Bradford's reputation isn't the best. I hope that the stories of the people that I have met over the past four years can help to dispel some of these negative connotations associated with Bradford and promote the positivity that the city has to offer.
The reason I am doing this project is to challenge people's views of Bradford from outside the city, as well as showing people from Bradford some great things going on here that they may not be aware of. When I first started working here the reaction I got from most people was "Bradford? Why do you want to work there?" I have since told them about the people I have met, the places I have been and the fantastic things going on in Bradford.
This is a really positive time for Bradford. There is a real sense here that things are on the up, with so many projects and developments happening in the city there is a feeling that there is a lot going on right now in Bradford. I hope that this project can be a part of that.
Along the way I have photographed many of the people who have inspired me, projects that are unbelievably successful and places that you wouldn't expect to see in a city with a fairly negative reputation. The main focus of this project though is the people of Bradford. People doing extraordinary things with really great stories to tell. I want to tell these stories the only way I know how; with pictures.
These pictures, along with a small bit of information on each picture, will promote positivity in Bradford. I want the project to also give back to Bradford and create positivity itself.
The funding raised will pay for the book to be printed, This is nearly all of the money that I am trying to raise. Along with the prints of the images and the fine art gallery prints (including framing) Other costs that the funding will cover will be the designer's fee for the book, postage and packaging of the rewards and of course the Kickstarter fees.
The secondary aim of Project Bradford is to give back to the city. To do this I will donating 100% of all book sales to the Bradford Burns Unit. I have chosen the Burns Unit as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire disaster. Working here has given me an insight into just how many people were, and still are, affected by the tragedy. It is something that resonates with all of the people of Bradford regardless of ethnicity, age, sex or religion.
In being a part of this project not only can you get a reward and enjoy the photographs but you can also help to shine a light on the other side of Bradford and help promote positivity in the city. I know that with your help this project can be a success and I hope that the people of Bradford will be proud of this project.
So please, support this project, pass it on to others and help to show everyone the true side of Bradford.
Risks and challenges
As with any of these projects there are risks with timing and hitting deadlines that I have promised you. The good thing about this project is that I have taken many of the photographs already and have the other ones lined up to take.
Because I am working as a Photographer in Bradford I am able to keep on top of any challenges that may come up during the project. Although, as a great deal of the work has already been completed I don't expect any complications with the production process.
Finally, I am doing this to create something positive for Bradford. Along with the fact that the book sales will be donated to the Bradford Burns Unit, many people have (and still are) helping me to ensure this project is a success and runs as smoothly as possible.
