DRM-free release and game night

Posted by Black Forest Games (Creator)

Happy Monday!

This week we have a few things lined up, some of which that aren’t on the calendar, and one rather important announcement for many members of our community. There will also be a calendar update sometime this week.

 1. We will release a DRM-free version of Ravensdale

If the Kickstarter succeeds all you DRM haters out there can rejoice! Along with our PC and Linux versions, we will also release one that is DRM-free. There may be some difference in how the multiplayer works in the DRM-free version (such as how matchmaking works etc.) but those will be clarified later.

2. Gameplay and Setting updates

Last week a lot of you really enjoyed the setting and gameplay updates we gave you, so we’ve planned for a few more this week. You’ll learn about some of the mechanics the designers are toying with, why they are toying with them and more about the story behind Ravensdale.

 Upcoming Events

Tuesday, August 6th: Team Spotlight #3. This time you get to meet the Kickstarter team and see what goes on in Kickstarter HQ. Monday, August 12th Live chat with the devs. Come hang out with us again from 12pm- 7pm CET at twitch.tv/blackforestgames

Thursday, August 15th:  Unreal Tournament 99’ gaming session. We’ve invited some dev-friends of ours this time, and hope you’ll join too! There are a few details to be worked out but you can find all of the information in our facebook event , and we’ll also post an update here, and on twitter the day of.

Great news, but I think the DRM-free statement should be placed prominently on the main page and in the FAQ, too.

The most important thing is, that many publishers already know about your idea for the game and at the end maybe our help won't be necessary :) ALthough I want more Giana games /or DLCs/ in the future and why not a 3rd perspective ones ;)

@Ivan: We aren't sure what exactly will happen to Ravensdale if the Kickstarter fails, we certainly want to continue to develop the game but we are going to need funding, so it will likely be put on hold for a while until we can find a way to fund it. The BFG community team will continue to keep everyone updated on the progress of the game and the decisions the team makes about publishing it.
@Endre: Gameplay demo videos would be a little difficult since the game does not exist yet ;) However, we do have lots of footage of the game in it's current prototyping state as well as team spotlights on our dev blog. www.projectravensdale.com

Well, if theoretically there is a sliiight chance that your project will not be funded, and I'm not saying it wont, what will happen to Ravensdale?

Hey guys! Let's see some gameplay demo videos and background videos about the working processes. That would be really interresting and may get you some extra backers.... :)

That version will be available for everyone then, e.g. at our friends from goodoldgames.

If you were planning to use Steam for the multiplayer features, that's a nice move to support a DRM free version also. Will a DRM free version only be available to backers, or will anyone that purchases Ravensdale be able to get a DRM free version?
