New Reward Tiers and Previews

Tomorrow’s a big day – we’ll have two Giana levels ready for you to play!

To tide you over till then, we’re introducing new rewards today, with special attention to the lower middle tiers. The best part is that all of those rewards are inclusive. This means that you get all rewards from lower non-exclusive tiers as normal, and if you already have backed at a higher tier, you’ll get the new reward(s) on top for free!

First is a digital reward. Pledge $15 or more and you’ll get three backer-exclusive alternate costumes for your copy of the game: Backer Giana in Kickstarter/BFGames colors, Angel/Devil Giana and Retro/Metal Giana to complement the soundtrack!

The next new reward is a mousepad with the Pikomi artwork on it (Yes, that artwork!) on top of the previous tier rewards. As a physical reward, it slots in at $60, providing a non-exclusive alternative to the Jewel Edition tier.

We’re also bringing you new T-shirts! Pledge $80 or more, and you’ll receive a simple and elegant version of our backer shirts in one of the three gem colors! (Your choice.) Like the others, this reward comes on top of rewards from previous tiers, and is included in later tiers.

The final non-exclusive reward is a set of Giana figurines featuring Cute Giana, Punk Giana and a defeated owl. It’s approximately ten centimeters tall (roughly four inches), crafted from resin. These figurines are situated in a higher middle tier and are yours at a pledge level of $300 or more.

Physical Reward Previews

Note: The depictions are as close to final as can be, but some variations will be unavoidable.

Here is a close-up of the basic backer shirts, the soundtrack CDs (around a dozen tracks in total), the backer pin and the new mousepad (mouse not included).

This close-up features the poster (not signed yet), the hardcover art book, the digipack containing the game DVD and soundtrack, the front and back faces of the USB drive (memorama card) and the front and back faces of the higher-tier backer T-shirt!

Here we have the Pillowls, the Pikomi canvas, the concept art canvas print and the Giana figurine.

The Pillowls depicted here are based on our prototype and will be tweaked by a tailor.

The figurines may take three to six months longer to ship than the other rewards. In case of a delay, they will be shipped separately. As they haven’t been crafted yet, the model in the preview is a reference. The actual figurine will be slightly simpler and won’t have individual strands of hair sticking out, for example.

If there's still confusion about the rewards, look here:…

@Trogdorbad: I'm not related in any way with BFG, so I might be wrong. But I think the current pillowls are hand crafted, which is probably also why they're that much up in the reward tier. Also, they should remain something special for those who did pledge that much money. So I don't think they'll become common merchandise in their current form.

    2. Rowe Schlosser on August 26, 2012

I've gotta ask - will the Pillowls be available to purchase after the Kickstarter is over, should it be funded?

oh look at that Dominik asked that too.

I've tried to make an Excel spreadsheet of the reward piers, check the forum post:…

    4. Dominik Scherer on August 23, 2012

What are the chances that you offer the Pillowls as merchandise later on?

    5. Tobias Gruetzmacher on August 23, 2012

Do you have more info on the mouse pad? Most merchandise mouse pads I have seen are nice looking, but not really usable as a mouse pad (glossy, too small, not flat, etc.) The one exception was the World of Tanks mouse pad I got at GamesCom this year: It's a nice SteelSeries QcK ( - Now I have 3 of them ;)

@ Mirko Schenk: That's right - the $80 tier doesn't include a jewel case, but from $99 upwards, the jewel case becomes part of the inclusive reward tiers.

    7. Martijn van Rheenen on August 23, 2012

I really want those figurines. and I just love the painting by pikomino. The bad ass attitude of cute giana is perfect!

    8. TheLastV8 on August 23, 2012

Damn, I want that Owlverlord so bad, but I won't spend $300. Hmmm! Anyway, thanks for providing us with news regularly. I'm looking forward to tomorrow :-)

So to sort things up a bit: The $80 tier doesn't include the jewel case because that's exclusive. But the $99 tier would, and for just a buck more there'd be the art book and signed poster. Right?

    10. Black Forest Games 3-time creator on August 23, 2012

I swear, those tier structures confuse us too. Not being able to add stuff to existing tiers is... cumbersome.

barbarian_bros: The $150 tier includes the printed artbook and poster.

Kabraxis: The exclusive tiers unfortunately can't contain newer rewards for technical reasons. There's no reason why you shouldn't receive the alternate skins though, so we'll add them even if it's not written in the reward text.

We'll update the comprehensive reward overview list on our website soon and hope that this will clear up some confusion.

aginore: Das erstmalige Release findet für PC (Win) statt, aber die anschließende XBLA-Portierung ist sicher.

      Thanks for writing!
      David Sallmann.

Rewardchart would be nice to make. I'm sure they will make one, but hopefully sooner then later. could be usefull for some people.

    12. Jonny Deutsch on August 23, 2012

There! I upped from 10 to 15. The extra skins had me sold. :)
Maybe I'll come in with more at the end.
      Keep up the good work!

    13. barbarian_bros on August 23, 2012

I'm confused too : does the $150 tiers include printed artbook and poster?

    14. Kabraxis on August 23, 2012

There are so many awesome rewards now... could you create a table which pledge will give you which rewards? If you have an hour or two...

I am a little bit confused now... because currently I am at the $90 exclusive reward tier.
So I wouldn't get the mousepad.. okay, fine. But I also wouldn't get the three new costumes? That would be awkward.

I guess I will simply up to $100/$150 to get both the costumes and the mousepad and also a physical copy of the game, instead of the gamepad. But it would be great to know if the costumes are included in the Jewel Edition and/or Gamer Pack reward tiers. :)

By the way: Thanks for the fantastic update and sorry, I am a little bit tired. The USB drive is clearly visible. Thank you. ;)

What a great rewards! How I wish the mouse pad! And the pillow is nice! Also, what an AWESOME team you are! Men, I so much wish you would accomplish your goals! Good luck and break the 300 000 barrier!

    16. barbarian_bros on August 23, 2012

Schöne Ideen, werde auch noch mal erhöhen, wenns aufs ende zu geht.
Wird es denn definitiev ne XBLA Version geben und nicht nur ne Indie Version?

    18. barbarian_bros on August 23, 2012

well, first answer is on the pictures : Blond Giana disc is the Soundtrack-CD, but waht about the 2 other discs?

    19. barbarian_bros on August 23, 2012

What are the 3 different discs : blond Giana, Dark Giana and Owl.
I Guess one is the audio-CD of the $50 tier, another one is the DVD containing Game+Digital Soundtrack + digital artbook.
But what is on the third disc, and which disc correspond to which content?

    20. iFreak on August 23, 2012

Ihr habt meinen Vorschlag mit den Kostümen aufgegriffen - SUPER! Dafür gibts auch das versprochene Upgrade. ;-)

    21. Black Forest Games 3-time creator on August 23, 2012

Hello Mike! The two preview levels will be available to everybody, not just backers, so yes, please do share them where you want and can! (The backer-exclusive sneak peek will consist of different levels.)

Kabraxis, the USB drive is the card-shaped object on the second picture. We may need another picture with all the tiny rewards zoomed in...

    22. Lee Swain on August 23, 2012

If the in game characters looked closer to that in the Pikomi artwork, I would be MUCH more inclined to pledge at a higher tier!

While I think the game looks great. I hate the character designs on Giana. Sorry.

Holy crap, I really want the figurine, but 300$ is just a tad above my budget... sadly

    27. Kabraxis on August 23, 2012

Second thought: Have to up my pledge:

And a question... USB drive preview... maybe? ($150)

    28. Carsten Reckord on August 23, 2012

*sniff* I was still hoping for a Chris Hülsbeck Signature Soundtrack CD or similar. Well, no matter, I'll bump up my pledge anyway. This needs to happen :D

    29. TheChosenOne on August 23, 2012

      Very nice update.

    30. Kabraxis on August 23, 2012

First thought: Although I don't really like additional content for backers.. I think that this is an excellent way to get some more backers to raise their pledge. Because $10 for the game is so damn low. This is the way to go.
Furhermore the content is cosmetic only, so I'm totally fine with that. :D

    31. Mike Pollmann on August 23, 2012

Can we share the levels with others as a means of encouraging more people to pledge?
