About

Yes, that's right!

3D Printing is an amazing technology but remains difficult and expensive for the average person to use - we now aim to change this.

The AXIS 3D Printer is one of the most affordable 3D Printers ever made and perfect for anyone keen to dive into the futuristic world of desktop 3D Printing, without having to break the bank!

Our printer is based on open-source technology with tried and tested industry standard components designed to work right, first time.

The £99 price was achieved by creating a design that merged together the motion system and frame of the printer whilst keeping the part count to a minimum. This way we can offer high quality components but for a far lower price.

It's worth mentioning that our margins are low, so we need your support to order large enough quantities to make the AXIS 3D Printer a success - but we will deliver and our pledge goal is very realistic for doing so!

The AXIS 3D printer has a spec sheet to rival many of its higher priced counterparts and at £99 you're paying less than 1 pence per CM ³  of build space!

Thousands of hours of development and  testing has gone in to make sure that the AXIS 3D printer functions as intended, again and again.

Furthermore a finalised design with components already selected are ready to order as soon as the campaign ends.

Mt Mini Factory and TinkerCAD

The AXIS 3D Printer is shipped as an easy to assemble kit with a very high quality online build manual with high-res images and easy to follow steps that break down the entire assembly process into easy to understand stages. Plus you also have the ability to comment under each and every step in case you get stuck.

The Assembly process should be half the fun, and give you an in-depth look at how your 3D Printer goes together and works, knowledge that will come in handy later for upgrades and maintenance.

A massive online community, easy maintenance, affordable off the shelf parts and entirely hackable are just some of the things that open-source technology provides.

The AXIS 3D Printer runs on the latest version of the very popular Marlin Firmware and works with the vast majority of industry standard software.

The AXIS 3D Printer is also compatible with a number of other very standard 3d printer hardware, ranging from hotends, nozzles, sensors, build-plates, and much more!

Also, the custom parts designed by us will have all of their manufacturing blueprints available for free download from our website after the campaign ends.

  •  Advanced automatic bed-levelling comes as standard on the AXIS 3D Printer, meaning a perfect first layer each and every time.
  • The 300x200x200mm (12x8x8inch) build volume gives you plenty of space to bring your ideas to life, that's less than 1 pence for every CM³ of build space!
  • A steel and aluminium construction means a very solid and vibration free machine that will just keep on performing even after thousands of hours of printing!

  • The 24V power supply provides the AXIS 3D Printer with super quick heat-up times and smooth motion.
  • A steel drive gear grips firmly onto the filament that results in extreme precision over the flow of plastic through the hotend.
  • The all metal hotend can get to temperatures of up to 270 degrees Celsius, perfect for printing the vast majority of materials.

Our unique motion system merges the frame, print platform and gantry to work together to create perfectly rigid and parallel motion. The folded metal edges reinforce the parts themselves whilst also providing a curved surface for linear guides to latch onto.

The linear guides themselves are made from HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), an incredibly rigid material with an extremely low co-efficient of friction resulting in incredibly smooth motion.

Furthermore the kit also includes PTFE grease for the contact between the linear guides and the metal frame to really achieve the smoothest possible motion.

The brains of the AXIS 3D Printer is the all in one MKS GEN_L control board running the latest version of the open-source Marlin firmware.

The stock drivers are the strong and reliable A4988 chips that control the motion of 4 full sized NEMA 17 stepper motors. We're also including a spare A4988 stepper driver too.

The power supply is an external 24V 4A brick suitable for both 110V and 230V mains outlets.

Upgrade electronics include an LCD display with click wheel control, a beefy external MOSFET for controlling the heated bed and the silent TMC2208 stepper drivers.

The Octoprint upgrades includes a Raspberry Pi camera and we're recommending to use it with the powerful Raspberry Pi 3B+ (sold separately).

Expand the standard capabilities of the AXIS 3D Printer by adding the following plug and play upgrades. You can mix and match any combination of upgrades or add them all for the ultimate experience!

The Power Pack is our most recommended upgrade that will give you the most rounded experience of the AXIS 3D Printer.

Control the AXIS 3D Printer without a PC connection; pre-heat the hotends and tweak settings like temperature and print speed - mid-print!

Carbon fiber, glow in the dark and wood objects are shown as an example of whats possible, they were printed on the Proforge 2S

The included set of 5 hard wearing steel nozzles (0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8mm) can be used for better resistance to more abrasive materials like carbon fibre, woodfil and glow-in-the-dark filaments.

Also included are two roles of PLA filament (250G each), a silicone cover for your hotend to keep it clean and provide better targetted air flow and a pack of 5 spare brass nozzles on top of the already included 0.4mm nozzle.

What's included:

  • LCD Screen
  • SD Card
  • PLA Sample Roll (x2)
  • Silicone Hotend Cover
  • Brass Nozzles - 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8mm
  • Steel Nozzles - 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8mm

Another recommended upgrade is the FlexPlate, a flexible spring steel sheet with our custom print surface that makes prints, both small and large, easy and hassle free to remove from the platform.

It fixes onto the platform with the help of 9 super strength high-temp resistant magnets.

What's included:

  • Flexplate
  • Print Surface
  • Magnet Pack (x9)

The heated bed helps your print's first layer adhere better to the platform and is an absolute must if you intend on printing high temp materials like ABS.

Our heated bed is a high quality aluminium platform with an integrated copper heater trace. It reaches temperatures of up to 110 degrees Celsius and is controlled through a beefy external MOSFET.

The platform is powered by a dedicated independent 24V power supply.

What included:

  • Aluminium Heated Platform (Pre-Wired with Thermistor)
  • Large External MOSFET
  • Dedicated Independent 24V Power Supply

The stock X/Y axis A4988 motor drivers on the control board are upgraded with the powerful and silent TMC2208 drivers.

With these upgrades the printing noise is reduced by up to 50%, this upgrade is a must if you expect to be running your printer in a quiet environment.

What's included:

  • Three TMC2208 Stepper Drivers (2 for x/y Axis + 1 Spare)

Double the fun and the capability of your AXIS 3D Printer with this easy to use dual extrusion upgrade.

Two materials are printed via a Y shaped Splitter. When a material is done printing the extruder pulls it back out of the hotend and through the Splitter. Then the other extruder pushes the second material in through the other side of the Splitter to be printed with.

The Capabilities of Dual Extrusion

With the Dual Extruder upgrade you are able to print together materials with different properties and create dynamic parts like this hinge:

This hinge is shown as an example of what's possible with dual extrusion, it was printed on the Proforge 2S.

Dual extrusion can also be used to create geometries that would otherwise be impossible to print, but with the aid of a dissolvable support material like PVA we can do this:

This model is shown as an example of what's possible, it was printed on the Proforge 2S.

What's Included:

  • Extruder Kit
  • NEMA 17 Stepper Motor
  • Spool Holder
  • Stepper Driver (A4988)
  • PTFE Tubing (x2)
  • Splitter Kit
  • High Tolerance PTFE Tubing
  • Cables and Fasteners

Make wires a thing of the past and control your AXIS 3D Printer via Wi-Fi. Effortlessly start, stop and monitor prints when away from home or whilst your printer sits in a different room.

The interface is the open-source Octoprint which is controlled via most web browser like Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc.

The system itself runs on the powerful Raspberry Pi 3B+ (not included in the upgrade but available from webstore - you may already own one or be able to source one locally).

What's Included:

  • Pi Cam
  • Pi Cam Case
  • Pi Cam Ribbon Cable
  • USB Wi-Fi Adapter
  • Micro SD Card
  • USB Power Converter
  • Fasteners

Before printing, a model needs to be processed by a "slicing software", where a 3D model (.stl file) is converted into a .gcode file that the printer can read.

The Makertech Edition of CURA, is an open-source slicing software with settings tuned to work seamlessly with the AXIS 3D printer. It is available for both Windows and MAC.

Risks and challenges

As with any kickstarter project there comes an element of risk, however this would now be our third time launching a project and we've learnt so much along the way and over come many obstacles that we're more than confident that we can not only deliver on time but to a high standard also.

The AXIS 3D printer was born out of the idea of an affordable £99 desktop 3D printer kit that could be both fun, useful and informative. This price point presents a number of challenges however we have a lot of faith in our team, suppliers and distributors to make this project a success and deliver the best possible AXIS 3D printer.
