A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
After reviewing hundreds of bottle stoppers (from the plain to the pretentious), we were bummed that we couldn’t find any that hit that magical “get it right” combination of phenomenal design AND superior functionality. One huge issue was that the most eye-catching options were almost by definition the most unwieldy.
We knew we could do better, so we turned the problem on its head. What if we could take a gorgeous, tall bottle stopper and send it in the other direction?
Instead of finding design space in the three inches above the bottle opening, we found it below. Meet GIR’s latest designs: three low-profile bottle stoppers that are designed to fit in tight spaces.
Let’s take a moment for science. We totally get that optimal storage conditions for oxidation-prone liquids (wine and olive oil, we’re looking at you) are highly restrictive. Oxygen free, low-light, humidity controlled. We’re all for it. But sometimes you just need something simple to pop in the bottle for a few minutes or overnight. These stoppers are for those practical moments when ease-of-use outweighs everything else. Nuff said.
Two of our stoppers have hidden corks and an elegant outer body that hugs any bottle neck. The third is a simple, streamlined design inspired by our silicone storage lids. They each feature dozens of geometric facets that reflect ambient light and make a modern, elegant statement.
Designing these stoppers was about more than just making the product look awesome. Each cork has several fins that provide a multi-stage airtight seal. They all fit standard wine, beer, liquor, and olive oil bottles; we tested them on every bottle we could get our hands on, and were never disappointed. The multi-stage seal works, hands-down, better than every other cork we tried, too. It’s tight but not impossible to remove. It allows you to store bottles on their sides without worrying about drips. And it’ll keep even champagne, beer, or sparkling water carbonated overnight or longer.
We’ve manufactured a small test run of these stoppers in just a couple colors each. But to make a full batch, we need your help. We’re ready to pull the trigger on mass production in the following colors:
These stoppers are a perfect fit for dozens of bottle types. The multi-stage airtight seal ensures no-drip coverage for:
Champagne Wine Magnums Liquor Beer Large Format Beer Cider Soda Mixers Olive Oil Salad Dressing Spring Water (sparking and still) ...and even Mexican Coca-Cola
Risks and challenges
We've run four previous successful Kickstarter campaigns and have a great sense of the roadmap here. Our biggest risks are to production timing, as unforeseen obstacles (or even an outstandingly over-funded campaign) can put a wrench in timely delivery. Fortunately, one of the biggest challenges - successful tooling for a quality product - has already been overcome. We've got more than just working prototypes: we have a fully molded, manufacturing-ready product just waiting for the funds to get production up and running. We hope we don't run into any snags between now and when the mailman comes to deliver each package, but if we do we're ready to do whatever it takes to make sure everyone is super happy with the end result.
Don't see a reward level that has all the things you're looking for? Make your own - you can mix and match items to your heart's content. Just do a bit of math using the numbers below, and set the pledge amount accordingly. You'll confirm your item selections and colors in a post-campaign survey. You can also modify any other reward level by adjusting that reward's pledge amount using the same math.
