What is The Media Podcast?
The Media Podcast is the UK's premier audio programme for the media sector; a podcast for the industry, by the industry. Hence the name.
Recording in London's West End, and independent of all the major broadcasters and newspapers, the show uses its impressive contacts list to find the most irreverent, free-speaking media commentary you can find - and automatically downloads each new episode to your phone.
So whether you're on a long commute to Salford, or stuck on a tube in Wapping, you'll hear us take the most interesting stories of the fortnight from the tv, radio, print and digital media industries and turn it into a raucous talking shop. Unashamedly insular - but always relevant - it will be thirty minutes of, ahem, media talk.
We have the Radio Academy's Paul Robinson, News UK's Stig Abell, Director of the Tow Centre for Digital Journalism Emily Bell, Heat magazine's Boyd Hilton, Comedy Central's Sam Delaney, Somethin' Else MD Steve Ackerman plus broadcasters Helen Zaltzman and Miranda Sawyer... you get the idea. All your favourites from Media Talk are there.
Radio Academy award-winning broadcaster Olly Mann will be in the presenter chair for the first part of the season. Olly has been a regular on Media Talk for several years and now splits his time between presenting on LBC and his hit podcast Answer Me This. If anyone can make The Media Podcast an independent success, it's Olly.
What will you get if we hit our target?
A whole year of fortnightly podcasts. And a warm glow in your gut.
As I'm sure you all know, putting out a programme on a regular basis takes time and money: booking guests, writing scripts, editing, exec-ing and releasing... so when you support The Media Podcast, you can be assured that the cash is being spent only on the things that matter: delivering a top-quality programme every time.
If you've never had the pleasure of using Kickstarter before, I can tell you it's great and risk-free; if we don't hit our target, the money you've pledged never leaves your account.
And for all you lawyers out there...
The Media Podcast is a PPM Production and not affiliated to the Guardian in any way.
Risks and challenges
We have had some very generous listeners willing to offer services in-kind or at a severely reduced rate (things like studios and podcast hosting costs). Should this change, we may have to get creative, using non-studio locations or reduce the amount of shows to cover these costs - just by one or two episodes.
Either way, we will ensure that there is a regular programme of a high quality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
