UPDATE No.7 – World introduction: The Extractors
The downfall of Earth's society gave birth to a new line of work – the profession of extracting. Chaos made everything fair game, and if 9 billion people are desperately trying to get the hell away from their home planet, there will be things left behind.
Expensive things, too.
More than a dozen different extractor companies are ready to scavenge the dying planet for the longing colonial customer, packing and delivering anything from small personal belongings to colossal landmarks.
Extractors are modern treasure hunters. No, wait – that’s a bit too romantic of a definition. They are the vultures of the twenty-second century, usually backed by big corporations. Their usual base of operation is a small space vessel orbiting Earth, changing course as frequently as possible, making it hard for the GTD to track them down.
Make no mistake, extractions are frowned upon, to say the least. It would be a criminal activity if law would still have any meaning. Even though the GTD does not actively hunt down extractors – they have way too much to do to deal with mercenary adventurers – if they run into a band of extractors, they will not hesitate to dispose them as swiftly and mercilessly as possible.
If they can, of course... Because there is a reason extractors are among the best paid professionals. These people are on the top of their game when it comes to salvaging or fighting – they are the best at what they do.
