Firstly, we would like to thank you for your interest in our campaign. We have had a lot of positive feedback about the game and the campaign and, the small amount of criticism, such as not showing off the game enough, we have moved swiftly to correct. We have also added a low cost entry level for 2 players.
However, despite this, we will be honest and admit that it has not gone as we would have hoped.
If you are interested in the campaign, but there is something that is holding you back from pledging, we would really appreciate 30 seconds of your time to leave us a comment as to what that is. And it really could be anything that is putting you off - price / miniatures / concept / layout / too much information / not enough information / quality of our prototypes / language / etc or that you want to play it first before committing.
Many thanks in advance and we look forwards to reading what you have to say.
Geoff, Mark, Dave and Kev.
The Third Law is a thrilling and addictive 2-player miniatures game, based on clashes between rival Factions in a bleak near future.
Combining highly detailed, metal robotic figures with cutting edge game mechanics in a fully immersive world, The Third Law will appeal to casual and tournament gamers alike.
Players take the role of elite programmers (Machinists) assembling their teams of robots (Wreckers) and upgrading them before entering the arena to smash, rend and tear their rivals apart in a perpetual pursuit of fame and glory.
ABOUT THE GAME
Game Length: 60 - 90 minutes
Arena Size: 36" x 24" (3' x 2')
Model Count: Typically 3 to 7 models per team
Model Size: 30mm - 65mm (metal)
Factions: Initially 4 (but with an additional 4 ready)
- Triple Resource Management
- Opposed Roll Mechanics
- Alternate Model Activations
- List Building
- Machinist and Wrecker Upgrades
- Dynamic Interactive Battlefield
Put simply it's to deal enough damage (Feedback) to your rival to render them comatose before they do the same to you.
There are two ways in which you can deal Feedback:
1) Smashing up your rival's Wreckers
2) Controlling Nodes on the battlefield
Role of the Machinist
Players assume the role of a Machinist. Each Machinist has a unique set of characteristics which directly affects the performance and play-style of their team including their signature 'special move' Programme.
Anatomy of a Game Turn
Game Turns are broken down into 5 Phases:
Initiative: Determine initiative and deploy any Wreckers not on the battlefield
Generation: Collect resources from your Wreckers and Nodes
Activation: Alternate between the players in selecting a Wrecker and completing all actions with it
Node: Check for control of Nodes and resolve effects
Cleardown: Reset all cards in preparation for next turn
Customise your team, balancing resource generation of speed, aggression and defence against the points value of the Wreckers and their upgrades.

Right now we have 11 sculpts and we need 10 more before we can release the game. We also need funding to turn our prototype cards, tokens and dice into full versions.
This is your chance to join us and put something back into the hobby we all love. So in return for funding us we wanted to offer you early access to the game and the miniatures at a dramatically reduced price. You will receive the full retail versions and not the prototypes shown here. This isn't a "pre-order" of a finished game - you are helping to create a brand new game!!
The version we have right now is an "Alpha" version and, together with in house and community playtesting over the next 9 months we will hone it to a polished retail level.
Why not grab a cup of hot beverage of your choice, settle back in your favourite chair and surround yourself with the dulcet tones of Dave and Geoff as they run through a demonstration of the game in action.
We firmly believe in letting you "try before you buy". So if you want to play the game for yourself, right now and completely free of charge, then please CLICK HERE to visit our website where you can download a full set of Print 'n' Play resources including Rulebook, Written and Video Tutorials, Standee Models and Tokens.
We will also be releasing a range of more in-depth articles during the Kickstarter campaign covering design philosophy, tactics and strategy for the game so stay tuned for further coverage of these aspects.
A thrilling and exciting game is great, but the one thing that we really wanted to do was to ensure that the miniatures did the game justice too. You don't need to take our word for it though as we would like you to judge for yourself below...
Overall we have 11 models that we have had sculpted to date by Romeo Salbatecu and Ben Wolsey-Charles. With your support we can get the other 10 completed offering 4 complete Factions to choose between:
The 3 miniatures below are production-ready miniatures, all in metal, which have been professionally painted by the incredibly talented Seb Lavigne of DARK IRON STUDIO
In case you are wondering how large these are, we have created a handy reference guide to a selection of Large, Medium and Small Wreckers.
That's right, the Shogun stands an imposing 65mm off the base. There are no prizes for guessing what size the Huge models will be... they're going to be HUUUUUUUGE!!!!!
We have tried to cater for everyone's budget with our pledges and aimed for different ways to get players into the game.
There are a load of things we would love to add to the campaign - and your pledges will allow us to do this. First up we hope to add a Huge model for each faction and then it's onwards to the new Factions....
We know that there are plenty of people out there who love robots, so we've come up with a series of Backer Challenges for you lot - unlock them and we'll throw in some more free gear! So what have we got on offer you ask? Well.....
So how do you unlock these? We thought that we'd come up with some challenges for you. As they are completed they will be marked off the grid below, and for every 3rd one marked off we will unlock the next Challenge stretch goal above. So, if we have 50 backers, and each of them share to Facebook that they've backed the game, then you'll have completed the first of the Facebook Challenges. If the next 50 also do that, it will take the total to 100 and that is the second Facebook Challenge completed. And so on. The Challenges can be completed in any order so, on your marks....
Are you a LFGS and would like to stock it a guaranteed minimum of 2 weeks before we launch to the public?
Note that this Pledge is ONLY AVAILABLE TO RETAILERS. You will need to provide Proof of Business to obtain this Pledge. If you want to discuss further details of our plans to support Retailers post-Kickstarter then please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
For larger retailers we will also have the same deal available as an add-on so you can have stock in each store.
Primogenesis are Kev, Geoff, Mark and Dave; 4 lifelong friends who collectively have over 100 years of experience of this wonderful hobby of ours. We have won countless Tournaments across sci-fi, fantasy and historical genres and even a couple of Painting Awards. We were also closely involved in the development (post-funding) of another miniatures Kickstarter (£100,000+) where we experienced first hand the problems that can arise and helped solve a good number of them. And not forgetting that Mark previously owned and operated 1st Corps (a miniatures manufacturer) so we have plenty of experience of what is needed to get miniatures from concept to delivery.
Outside of gaming, our daily professional expertise covers all of the really boring skills you'd want from people in charge of delivering a top quality product; Project Management, Supplier Management, Budgeting & Cost Management.
If you want to know more about us as individuals then CLICK HERE to visit our bios on the Primogenesis website, though we make no apologies for the photos!
To assist us in delivering a top quality set of rules and miniatures we have selected BackerKit as the Pledge Manager for The Third Law.
BackerKit is well recognised as a post-Kickstarter Pledge Manager, allowing backers to customise their pledges after the Kickstarter has ended. We will also use BackerKit to process shipping charges which allows us to tailor to each Backer and help ensure you only pay the minimum and not a "one size fits all".
Refund Policy: In addition to the Kickstarter Refund policy we are offering a full refund, less fees, on all pledges before we close the Pledge Manager.
Shipping Policy: Shipping will be as low as we can make it, and will depend upon each backer's individual choices made in the Pledge Manager.
Backers within the EU will not incur any customs and import duties.
Backers outside of the EU will be responsible for all customs and import duties, though over the next 12 months we will be exploring ways of reducing or eliminating these before we ship. Unfortunately we can't promise anything more concrete at this stage but we will work our hardest for you. We are gamers too so we understand this is important to people.
Individual Models: We wanted to get you these wonderful miniatures at the absolute cheapest price we could. To do this, our costs are based on the manufacture, packing and shipping of whole units (the Arrays and Enhanced Arrays). Whilst we would love to be able to offer individual models right now, this would unfortunately drive up costs. Once all Kickstarter Pledges have shipped, we will have all models available for purchase individually.
That said, if you really want the option of individual miniatures as an add-on then let us know via the project comments and, if demand is high enough, we will look at how we can best do this for you.
Once you amazing backers unlock them, this is where they will be listed...so start unlocking those stretches please!!!
Risks and challenges
Rules: The game development has stabilized and resulted in the Alpha set which can be downloaded for your own assessment. We have had great feedback on this already, but we will now work together with the help of Beta Playtesters and the community to bring you a stonking set of rules for play in both friendly games at home or head to head in tournaments.
Models: We have an amazing artist working with us. The risk with any artist is that they cannot complete new art to the same standard as existing, but Adam really wants to see his art turned into tabletop gaming models and has a history of turning out quality after quality.
In addition to the artwork, we also need amazing sculptors to bring Adam's visions to life. We have already shown what two of our sculptors can do, and have industry contacts if we need additional artists, sculptors or anything else.
This area is the most significant risk to the project delivering on time, and as such we will monitor progress on a weekly basis until we have delivered.
Accessories: These are the additional items that are needed to make the game "tick", so that's the dice, tokens, cards and all the other wonderful bits. Like the rulebook, we have stabilized these in development and we will now work to finalize them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
