My narrative thesis short film, entitled PREY, is based on my father’s reaction to the deterioration of his community and his choice to restore order, even if that restoration caused more harm than hope. The film explores Tim Jones, a father who loves his children, but suffers from the despair of social inequities and worries for the future of his children in a volatile environment. PREY provides a voice to people living in a troubled city that is plagued by violence and pain.
I have received fiscal sponsorship from IFP, Independent Filmmaker Project and I have received a small donation of $500 from Baltimore Filmmaker, Sheldon Candis. We need the financial support from the community in order to tell the stories of the inhabitants. More importantly, I want to create a film where people of color can see a reflection of themselves that is not perceived in a negative light. PREY is currently in the pre-production stages and we are actively working to get the film into production starting in November 2016.
Your contribution will feed our cast and crew. It will make sure we have permits and police protection to keep our cast and crew safe. Funding for the film will also allow us to have locations with lighting and plumbing. YES, WE HAVE TO THINK OF EVERYTHING! Most importantly, your contribution will allow us to create a true reflection of life in Baltimore.
