A funny webseries with a fresh social media twist, The Monday Knights follows a group of young gamers who escape the drudgery of daily life through their imaginary Dungeons & Dragons-inspired world. Our Napoleon Dynamite-meets-Lord of the Rings adventure comedy is set both in the characters' real world and within their game world (using vibrant computer-generated environments). With our backers' help, we’ll be able to realize the groundbreaking social media idea that we're really excited about: A website design that gives viewers the ability to directly influence the show’s story as it unfolds.
STORY SYNOPSIS: Marty Collins escapes mundane life as a computer refurbisher by playing “The Game,” a fantasy roleplaying world where he’s the hero of the story. But when fellow player Gordon Grater greasily double crosses Marty’s character, Marty must convince an unlikely group of new players to help him reclaim his fantasy world—and The Monday Knights are born. Too-cool Sam, beautiful newbie Ryn, power-tripping Phan, and everyman Marty have their work cut out for them and a fast-approaching deadline for their quest. In an adventure spanning worlds real and imaginary, Marty ultimately discovers that not all treasures are found in dungeons.
VISUAL FORMAT: The show seamlessly integrates the fantasy landscapes of The Game with the ordinary scenes from the characters' daily lives. Real life scenes will be shot on location, and in-game scenes will be shot on a green screen and composited onto a fantastical 3D world created by Prescott Harvey.
DELIVERY: Each Monday a new 3-5 minute episode will be released on the Monday Knights website. Viewers are encouraged to "be the dungeon master," by adding ideas for future shows via a Mad-Libs-style form. Then, the audience can vote on other fans' ideas for future episodes, and see the best ideas come to life on screen in an upcoming episode!
WHY KICKSTARTER? While the show could survive as a simple webseries, the social media element requires a custom-designed website. And, while we could outfit our heroes with funky homemade cardboard armor, we need a significant chunk of this capital to dress our cast and sets in a manner befitting the world of Middle-earth. Additional funds will go towards the camera, lights, and sound equipment needed to tell our story well.
THANK YOU in advance for supporting the creative arts and our little brainchild. Please do us a favor and spread the word about Monday Knights to your friends, so we can expand our circle of influence through you. We can't wait to show you the finished product next spring!
