Daily Videos

Posted by Jim Walls (Creator)

Hello everybody,

I hope you had a good weekend.  The Precinct Kickstarter campaign has been live for almost two weeks now.  So far we've raised almost $70,000!  We have 18 days to go, so if you haven't pledged yet please think about it.  Precinct is going to be a terrific game and we can't wait to tell you more about it.

I also wanted to send out a quick reminder that we are still releasing daily videos.  So far Jim has given us some great insights into the history of Sierra.  Here are the videos so far:

Video Nine: Why do people still love Police Quest?

Video Eight: Oakhurst was a strange place for a video game company

Video Seven: Why are we so excited about Precinct?

You will see at the end Jim mentions we need to get a team together. At the time of filming we did not have a team in place, but now we do.

Video Six: Jim and Robert talk about Billy Vukovich III and how they almost worked together

Video Five: Jim and Robert talk about where Police Quest I was made.

Video Four: Jim talks about the transition from being a cop to game designer.

Video Three: Jim makes a new game for his fans

Video Two: What was crunch time like at Sierra?

Video One: Why Kickstarter?

Thanks for all your support on the project!!

Robert.

@Paskarl - "we need fresh food to lure new backers or to convince existing ones to throw in more money." /agree. I've been retweeting the posts made but they've just been vidoes about the good ol' days at Sierra - which is great but it doesn't say much about the game.

@Troels - I was considering that actually. With the other Sierra franchises they managed to end in the mid-late 90s or have been around as spin-offs/fan remakes until recently. The last Police Quest *adventure* game was Open Season in 1993 and even that wasn't developed by Jim Walls. So maybe it was an uphill battle to begin with?

I also think that Robert is trying his best to give us some insight on what the gameplay is like by posting the interviews (since they occasionally touch on the Precinct gameplay) - although I think it would be good if we had a more concise summary or some bullet points on the features of the game. Or even increased communication with backers in terms of answering their questions with respect to gameplay.

The only thing I might consider to be 'spam' would be if the update was like "Sup. We're still here." Or something like "Hi everyone. Keep spreading the word." And that's it. Daily Video updates isn't one of them.

Why people are not throwing themselves at the $19 pledge is beyond me. Either the campaign isn't getting enough traffic, or people are too young to have played PQ.

      Hi Jim/ Robert.
I guess it does make sense to have new videos in single updates.
I know that you´re just combine them now for letting all know they exist :-)
But most what are interested in your project read the main page just once.
I do not follow any updates there.
It has a reason why there is an section called updates :-)
And don´t worry about spamming people!
If someone does not want it he can deactivate it.
But most are really happe to see some news!
And talking about news, we (the project) need fresh food to lure new backers or to convince existing ones to throw in more money.
Something like the physical old school box etc.!
      Good luck!
      Back on duty.
