The Prairie Comics Festival is excited to be part of Kickstarter's Make/100 for the second year in a row!
Our limited edition item is a new anthology of comics by Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta creators, but we've also added additional non-limited items for late-funders who miss out on the book (and don't worry everyone will receive a digital copy of the anthology!)
We are an annual curated festival dedicated to promoting the creators behind comic books, with a focus on artists, writers, and publishers who live in Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
Run in collaboration with the Winnipeg Public Library, the festival connects comic book creators and publishers with readers, teachers, academics, and librarians, increasing the breadth of exposure they would otherwise not receive. Though inspired by festivals such as Toronto Comic Arts Festival, Vancouver Comic Arts Festival, and Small Press Expo, the Prairie Comics Festival is more intimate in scope, to provide opportunities for personal interactions between readers and creators.
In addition to exhibiting the work of creators to the public, the festival also seeks to advance the skills of comic book creators through specialized learning panels taught by other creatives. These panels also foster discussions that highlight comics as a unique form of literature, art, and media.
This year we are pleased to welcome our first invited guests:

She is currently working on a Lumberjanes prose series for Abrams books with Brooklyn Allen and a novel about losing your virginity, amongst other things. Mariko lives in Oakland.

We have various sponsorship levels available for individuals and companies wanting to show their support for local creators! Anything over $100 will receive special credit, as reflected in the reward level.
Combined with our other sponsorships and potential grants in process, the funds will be used to cover travel costs for our guests, after production of the rewards for the campaign. The amount needed is flexible, as we have private sponsors willing to increase their donations to cover any gaps.
Sponsorship for 2018 includes the University of Manitoba, the University of Winnipeg, Renegade Arts Entertainment, and Bedside Press.
Risks and challenges
