What is Falling Koalas?

Falling Koalas is a card game all about koalas. Drop Bears, as they are affectionately called, are known to eat eucalyptus leaves and sleep all day. Although seemingly cute and cuddly, they attack!

The game involves intense strategy and a bit of luck where players battle to see who will be the last koala hanging. It's easy to learn and takes 10-20 minutes to play.

$20 - Falling Koalas Original Deck:  cards, the box and instructions (additional cards were added during the campaign). This deck is the original version and family friendly. If stretch goals are achieved, this reward gets the box upgrade and a super secret gift.

$25 - The Nocturnal Deck: cards, the box and instructions (additional cards were added during the campaign). This deck is the seedy adult version for terrible people like you. It includes hysterical mature-themed content. If stretch goals are achieved, this reward gets the box upgrade, drinking game add-on, custom koozie gift and a super secret gift.

$40 - The Platinum Pack: 1 x Falling Koalas Deck, 1 x Nocturnal Deck, the boxes and instructions. This includes both previous rewards and stretch goals.

*** NEW REWARD *** $5 - Falling Koalas Print & Play: Get a digital print and play file with the original deck artwork that you can use to print your own copy of Falling Koalas. Great for backers who don't want to pay for shipping or travel often and would like the flexibility to print anywhere.

Why buy today?

This is offered exclusively to Kickstarter. This version of the game will not be available for purchase after the campaign! Since you are buying directly from us, this cuts out the middlemen and you'll also be supporting koala rescues and indie games.

What's the story behind it?

I moved to Brisbane, Australia about 3 years ago and fell in love with koalas. They eat and sleep all day... Who doesn't love doing that?

So I set out to create a fun card game with my favorite animal, the koala! I sketched them eating, sleeping, climbing and playing. Then I put these drawings on cards. There was no way to win and it was truly an awful game with no rules.

After many nights of no direction and dumb ideas, I thought to myself, “What does no one want to happen to koalas?”... And then the game was made.

The idea of being the last koala alive made it super fun and competitive with my friends. The other cards were easy after that. Push or Sacrifice someone else to fall is a brutal way to force someone to lose. The Sleep card is hilarious because koalas can sleep 22 hours a day. It’s so true and the card can be played to block anything, because you’re asleep!

"Highly recommend. Falling Koalas is very competitive, yet friend-oriented. From conquering the play table to saving koalas. What more could you ask for?" - John W.

"We literally couldn't stop playing this game. It's so much fun. The longer the game lasts the more important each card is." - Aleesha W.

"The game is so cool and the koala images are very cute. Anyone will enjoy playing Falling Koalas!" - Jessica P.

Timeline & budget

We have our manufacturer lined up and we’ll begin printing the cards and manufacturing the boxes as soon as we’re funded. Here is an expected timeline from now until you get your very own Falling Koalas cards.

We set a $9,000 USD funding goal. This amount allows us to recover our pre-launch promotional costs such as: artist costs / card designs, prototype decks & hats, marketing campaign, as well as allow us the funding to test stretch goal features such as a two-piece box, custom koozies and other special secrets for you guys!

Shipping costs

Shipping will be charged after the campaign. We are using our friends at BackerKit for pledge management and Amplifier for shipping. BackerKit will send surveys at the end of the campaign to collect your details. Fulfilment centers will then ensure on-time delivery with the most cost efficient shipping options for domestic (USA) and international orders (e.g., rewards to AU will be shipped from a fulfilment center within AU and rewards to EU will be shipped from within EU).

Risks and challenges

This is my first Kickstarter project as a Creator and I realize manufacturing & shipping challenges are common. I have established relationships with printing / manufacturing companies. Once the funding closes, it will essentially be 'push the button' ready for production.

Further, to address this risk I have structured the stretch goals where the rewards are not overly-complex items (e.g., no shirt sizes or bespoke meeples which cause delays). This will allow the project to stick to our timeline.

As noted above, I am working with pledge management and fulfilment companies who are experts in logistics and shipping. I am committed to delivering a quality product on time!
