@Gil: Thanks for the note! I'm so sorry to hear the Pronto failed again. Thank you for checking further into the issue - we're redeveloping the Pronto 12 and this is good information to have when we make that model. Because we're redeveloping, we haven't restocked and unfortunately don't have any Pronto 12s in inventory to ship a replacement. If you'd like, please send us an email at support@powerpractical.com and we'll make this right!
@creator Had a unit go bad with one of the usb ports power intermittently. Kudos of sending me a replacement but it has now happened again. So I decided to open up the pack to fix it myself since I know it had to be a soldering problem. The problem is that the USB port is surface mounted to the pcb. For gear that is supposed to be rugged, used outdoors, stowed in pockets, jostled around while charging devices, please design for and use components like usb ports that mount through the pcb since they're less likely to fail
@creator Thanks for your quick reply! Not sure what is going on here, but it certainly seems like someone has got a copy of your backer list. Maybe they just scraped the data, and misrepresented their relationship with Power Practical/Luminoodle. I'll forward details as requested.
@Kean: We never share any of your information with third parties - this is against the law and we take it very seriously. Please send me an email at support@powerpractical.com or aurora@powerpractical.com with more information so we can take care of this ASAP.
@conscious consumer - I'm sorry to hear your Pronto isn't working! Send us a note at support@powerpractical.com so we can replace your unit right away. Thanks!
My Pronto 12 stopped working after the second charge. Only one of the charge cylinders works now. I am way beyond over having to re pack this thing and send it back. I have learned my lesson using kickstarter maybe 10 times over so I know its on me for backing projects on here and having any expectation.
@James I'm very sorry about that! Could you please shoot us an e-mail at support@powerpractical.com so we can get your replacement units sent out immediately?
I received the Pronto 5 & 12 for my pledge. Both didn't work. I returned them and have not heard a word back. I was holding out hope that my units were exceptions and be replaced however after reading all the comments I see the units might be in the majority. I suppose I'll go shopping for another battery.
On top of the Pronto 12 only charging my phone 3 times instead of 9 I paid $109 for it plus shipping and now on their website, it is on sale for only $99. So it is even cheaper to buy it on the website than what we got it for, and I don't know why they even still sell it since it doesn't work as advertised. Now they say on the website the Pronto 12 can charge your phone 3-6 times, but when we ordered it they said 8-9 times, there is a big difference between 3 and 8. If they said only 3 or 4 times no one would have bought it on kickstarter.
This company is a total ripoff
First you ship the product the stores before shipping it to backers
Then after trying the Pronto 5 & 12 its worse then the $30 battery pack that i just bought
My Pronto is one of about five battery packs that I have. It is the very worst of them all. A total disappointment. Weaker than my smallest, pencil-sized one. Not pleased at all.
@Alvin @Chris I'm very sorry to hear about the issues with your Pronto battery packs. Could you shoot us a note at support@powerpractical.com so we can help you get a replacement unit?
@ George if it makes you feel better - with the pronto 5, i can barely get 1 full charge in - before the pack runs out of juice. i'm not sure how that's possible, when the device is supposed to contain a 4500 mah battery - and the iphone is only a 1800 mah battery.. i find myself using my other chargers which have AC plugs built into the devices more.
So, 3rd and last time doing specific testing with the Pronto 12 revealed that after charging it for about 5 hours it managed to in turn charge my Galaxy S5 phone about 3 and a half times before it stopped.
I'm not sure what the problem is but 3.5 times is nowhere near the 9 times advertised during this project's start and even now on their website, although it says 6-9 times but even then I am nowhere near 6 times on this phone.
Is it some problem in manufacturing, or are the pronto 5 parts put into the pronto 12 and that's why it only charges the phone about 3 times. I don't know what else to say but I am not happy paying almost $150 for a charging brick that can't even charge my phone 4 times before itself needing recharging.
I would appreciate if anyone else posted their experience with the Pronto 12 because I don't know what the next step is to take care of this, I'd rather have my money back at this point and buying a cheap $50 charger that can charge the phone 3 times as well and it's much smaller.
Sigh...
Right now, I have not received it at all. On the courier say the parcel is "sender request"...The request date 21 Jan, 2016....
Dear Sir/Madam
Regarding QS300000461HK in operation record, it is returned to actual sender.
For further information, you may consider to contact actual sender for more information.
For further inquiry, please feel free to contact us. Thanks.
I had received the Pronto 5, and 12. Using these batteries, i feel something weirded. It charges my cellphone too short.
For example, the pronto 12 can charge only one time for my iPad mini (from 7%) . And the pronto 5 cannot refill my cell phone, iPhone 6 plus.
Is there some problems making a lithium polymer battery? Sometimes, i think my xiaomi battery (10600mAh) is better than these.. :(
p.s. There are too much custom taxes for clearance. So i cannot send this battery to you and request fixing this problems..
So, again after fully charging the Pronto 12 for about an hour and a half I tried to charge my Samsung S5 phone and it managed to charge the phone almost 3 times so more like 2 times and 80% of the 3rd time.
I have no idea how they got the 9 times charging of a cellphone and I'm afraid we can't even charge the cellphone 4 times, which is less than half the advertised charging options.
And I am even more sad that I paid almost $150 US for this product that can only charge the phone 3 times, I mean I could've gotten another battery that does that for less than $50. It's good that you can charge the Pronto 12 in one hour or less than 2 hrs but still...where is all the charging power going, only 3 times for a phone is really bad for such a big battery and this price.
:(
I experienced half charging on my iPhone 5s using the first USB port .. Only the 2nd port can charge my iPhone 5s fully. Not sure what's the problem. The battery pack is charged full.
My Pronto 12 can gives my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, model SM-N915G 1 full charge, and only 72% for the second charge, then it is totally drained.
I tried another 3 times, recharging the #12 for a full 60 mins. with indicator lights showing a full charge, and the same results is still about the same.
The #12 is touted to be able to charge 9 smartphones on a full charge, can Practical Power please advise me if I am doing anything incorrectly.
Received my 12 about 2 weeks back and overall extremely happy about it. It charges my Oneplus One faster than the stock charger, so I find myself using it to charge the phone even when at home.
What I do find a missed opportunity is that the second set of leds is not used to indicate the amperage with which the battery is charging the connected items. After all, that is what is is doing most.
Hi, wrote in to support abt one of my 4 prontos being dead out of the box. Got a very quick response with a link to a form to initiate the replacement process. Have filled it in and it's been a while now - any hiccups? Hope to get a response soon with (hopefully) a convenient way to get the exchange done - I literally need to send you back a brick that was duty paid for...
Mein Pronto 5 funktioniert leider nicht. Er lässt sich nicht abschalten. Wie können wir hier vorgehen ? Ich hätte gerne ein neues Gerät oder mein Geld zurück.
well.. i received both of my Pronto 12 and 5. Pronto 5 is not working at all... after i full charge it for an hour or two, both light indicators were on all the time and wasn't able to charge my cellphone. I tried to charge different phone with different cables with no luck!!! and Pronto 12 can only charge my iphone 6s 2 times instead of 8. I would like to ask for a refund or replacement for both Pronto 12 and 5 without paying expensive taxes again!!!!
Hey backers, If you have any issues with your Pronto battery packs or still haven't received your order, please don't hesistate to contact us directly at support@powerpractical.com.
I got both of mine... After paid tax... have been fully tested with the Pronto 12....
Well.. It has been BOOM!! in the middle of the meeting at my company where I work. Well it caused me a lot of problem... to evacuate people out of the building... Blah blah... So to sum up, my Pronto 12 is out!! Is there any warranty for this?? Can I claim for it without paying another tax???
Well I would prefer to get money back as now I'm really satisfy with this battery anymore!! It caused me to pay tax (Well i'm not gonna complain about this) But then I gotta pay fine to call the 911
I received my Pronto 12 and after a bit of testing can confirm it works as advertised. My only complaint is the similarity and proximity of the DC-in and 12V-out ports, as a wrong connection could render the device unusable. I've finally memorized the correct orientation of the device referencing the USB ports, but I can imagine others confusing these ports and causing support headaches for PP. My suggestion would be to add a subtle bump in the case adjacent to the DC-in, or perhaps to add a removable plastic/rubber plug for the 12V-out for future customers to discern these identical but wholly incompatible ports.
Sigh....once again, can the creator PLEASE get back to me? My Pronto 12 isn't charging and since it arrived in the mail all I've had is a colourful brick. I'm not asking for a refund, just a working unit. Please contact me.....
Can the creator please get back to me with a technical support question? I've sent an email directly to the creator plus left an email via the website and I haven't heard anything.
So, straight out of the box the Pronto 12 managed to charge my Samsung S5 phone 3 times from almost 0% to 100% before it ran out of battery.
Now I have charged it for the first time, for about 1 hour and a 30 mins and the LED on it show that it's full, so I will test it again in the coming week and see how many phone charges it has in it, if it only charges it again for 3-4 times then it's almost a complete fail for such a big battery pack.
Aside from that everything seems to work fine, it charges the phone very fast when it is connected and it also charged itself from nothing to full in less than 1hr 30 mins.
How can anyone trust KickStarter ever again? Shitty policy and these companies don't take ownership. I still have yet to receive this thing. I want a damn refund.
I tweeted an update as soon as I got my Pronto 12 charger (https://twitter.com/CarlosThomass/status/687419934348046336), but I did not hear back. i have two other family members that ordered the Pronto Charger (5 & 12). They both of the same issue. How do we submit a proper support ticket or get a refund?
Imagine my surprise: Another update, more promises, yet no tracking, no product, no replies to my emails... again. Can't wait for this thing to show up so I can send it right back for my refund. I'm not even going to bother opening it up. What a joke. I'd be ashamed to be associated with this company.
Just got from the UPS,,, Not that impress... $219 stuff and got to pay another $126 for duty!! Never pay this much for the tax... I backed around 126 projects. This project is the worst one!! If this battery is not charged then I would have to say that this project is a failure project!
Shunichi, by reading online I'm noticing alot of people are having quality control issues... They should be embarassed to charge so much money and not provide a quality product!!!
Got mine in Australia yesterday and it looks good. Will give it a serious load test in the lab in the next few days.
For those comparing size with other battery packs, remember that the Pronto 12 is an 11.1V, rather then 3.7V Lithium pack - so actually 3 cells in series. Thus a normal 10,000mAh pack would be 37Wh (3.7V x 10Ah), but a Pronto 12 is about 50Wh (11.1V x 4.5Ah) - so about a third more capacity. The Pronto is also far quicker to charge, and much more rugged - both of which require a larger format device. Wouldn't hesitate to take this camping, unlike my Anker pack (which currently in pieces...).
And as mentioned by others, customs/import charges are dependant on destination country and as per KS T&Cs are the backers responsibility (although some creators do their best to cover it). In many cases you wont have come across these charges with other projects that used plain air mail, but shipping of Lithium batteries have strict rules regarding air travel, and thus it was most likely much easier and quicker using UPS as the carrier.

In many cases you wont have come across these charges with other projects that used plain air mail, but shipping of Lithium batteries have strict rules regarding air travel, and thus it was most likely much easier and quicker using UPS as the carrier.
