Update of the Avatar - 06/04/13: Private Developer Forums, Amazon Payments, & New Team Members!

Private Developer Forums Are Live!

Greetings and Salutations!

The Development team at Shroud of the Avatar is delighted to announce that the private Developer Forums are up and ready for everyone who pledged at the Developer level and above. If you already have a Shroud of the Avatar forum account, getting started is as easy as signing in at the new address: https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php. You'll need to bookmark this link until we modify the navigation buttons on the SotA website.

Use your SotA email address and password to log into the Developer Forums. If your Shroud of the Avatar account shows that you have pledged at the Developer level and above, you will have complete access to the new private forums, can upload custom signatures, access our exclusive Developer Blogs, earn special forum titles, and more!

The current public Shroud of the Avatar forums continue to be available for everyone interested in the game, and will be moved over to the new forum system as soon as the General Forum content is imported over.

If you are not already registered for our forums, simply register here (https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/wp-login.php?action=register), then log into the address listed above. Also, please take a moment to read over the Forum Rules before embarking on your first post. If you encounter any issues accessing the forums, please contact us at support@portalarium.com.

Amazon Payments Now Available!

For those of you that prefer to use your Amazon account to purchase or upgrade your pledges, Amazon Payments is now available as a payment option for pledges in addition to PayPal and credit cards.

Layaway Plan Coming in June!

The Layaway Plan we first mentioned in Update #25 is almost ready to launch! This plan is for backers that can't afford to pay for their pledge all at once. There will be a monthly service fee associated with the Layaway plan, thus increasing the overall amount paid for a tier. The monthly payment plan will be available to new backers making their first pledge, as well as for existing backers that want to make monthly payments toward upgrading their existing pledge. The monthly payment system is currently being tested, so look for an upcoming KS Update in June announcing when it is ready.

New Team Members!

Several new, incredibly talented artists have joined the team. You can meet Isaac Oster, Bren Wilson, and Geoff Mellon in an upcoming Shroud of the Avatar Dev Hangout.

Please Register on SotA and Link Your Kickstarter Account!

You can stay on top of all the latest news by registering on our website, https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com. And if you have not already done so, please be sure to Link your Kickstarter Account, so we can ensure that you receive all of your backer rewards as soon as they are ready to roll out!

I just tried to register my account and I'm still receiving an error saying it cannot find the kickstarter account.

"Sorry, we can't find a KickStarter account for the email address specified. Please re-enter your KickStarter email, or contact our support at community@portalarium.com for assistance."

@Rayne ~ There was a small problem with email login authentication, but that has since been fixed (as of this morning). It should work as described now. :)

FYI the developer forum won't let me login with my email, but it does let me login with my username from the old forums. If this is the correct functionality, I suggest updating it to say email address OR username.

    5. Creator FlyinBuddha on June 5, 2013

      @FireLotus ~ Understood. Sorry for the over-reaction.

@FlyinBuddha ~ We are implementing the payment plan because it was requested by the community. Many members want the ability to pledge every month towards higher tiers. The third parry billing system we have to use (because we are of course not a bank) charges us a fee to collect payments, thus the extra fee is not something we are profiting from.

@royalsexy & nonobadkitty ~ The Founders Developer Blog is next on our list to be implemented and should be up and available before the end of the month.

@Raman Ng ~ Can you please submit a ticket to support@portalarium.com with your forum username so I can investigate why you are unable to log in? Thanks!

I'm not going off on a rant. They're charging people a finance charge to give them money. The only reason to give them money now as opposed to when you've saved it up is to get in under a deadline that they themselves created. It's wrong. They're at double their goal already. If they want to let people pledge beyond their means and spread that out into payments, that's fine - you say "thank you for pledging beyond your means," you don't charge people extra for the privilege of helping get the game off the ground.

    8. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on June 5, 2013

FlyinBuddha, before going off on a rant that Portalarium is doing something "fishy", you should know that they are putting in a layaway plan for one reason: Because tons of people begged for it. It wasn't even on the table until everyone asked for it. Implying its illegal is ridiculous and offensive.

For others: The private developer forums are for those at Developer level and higher. You should not be able to access them unless you pledged $400+. It mentions a blog in the update, but there is currently no blog there, either for Founders or Developers. I imagine once it is live, it will have Founder access. You're not missing anything yet!

    9. Creator kjashdk on June 5, 2013

Looking forward to the update where you announce you're looking for QA people - especially automation folks =)

    10. Creator FlyinBuddha on June 5, 2013

Layaway?? This is really, really fishy. I'm sorry, but I thought Kickstarter was all about the community getting together to help fund games that couldn't get off the ground, yet Portalarium is doing well enough to act like a bank and loan you money to give back to them so that you can afford more non-tangible, infinitely replicable goods before an artificial deadline that Portalarium controls is up. This doesn't even sound legal.

    11. Creator royalsexy on June 5, 2013

Yeah I also backed at the Founder level and don't have access to the dev forum... Is that restricted to the Developer level only?

    12. Creator Raman Ng on June 5, 2013

I can't login Developer Forum using the credential of SotA site. I've already registered in SotA and link my Kickstarter a/c already, so there is no problem to login SotA site.

      Please help.

      Hi
When I try to log in to The shroud website, i get a
      Error establishing a database connection
error, at 7:50 CET . Dont know if it's because some backups are running at that time. Just thought you should know.

    14. Creator nonobadkitty on June 4, 2013

OK, so if we pledged at the $60+ level and should have access to the Developer BLOG but not the developer forums, is this where the Dev Blog will be also? I cannot log into the forums (I did NOT pledge at $400+) but in this post you mention something about "access to Developer Blogs" so I'm wondering if that's the same one the $60+ people should have access to, or a special $400+ pledge blog. And if it's not the $60+ one, where is that one? Or is it not out yet?

    15. Creator Kelly K. Smith on June 4, 2013

      Excellent!!
