BONUS REWARDS: Future Episodes, New Tiers, Immortality Fruit, Indestructible Artisan Tools, Unique Taming Ability & More!

We received great feedback on our forums for additional Pledge rewards, and based on this feedback we're adding lots of new bonus rewards!

Two frequent suggestions included access to future episodes and a bridge tier between $60 and $100, so we combined those suggestions and added a great new tier! We are introducing the reward-packed, $80 Royal Artisan Tier! This tier is loaded with goodies, including full access to future Episodes 2 & 3, a David "Iolo" Watson-designed range weapon, indestructible artisan tool, unique (teachable) emote, and special ability which will allow players to tame a normally untamable monster!

We also added a new $50 tier, the Immortal Adventurer, that includes an awesome, one-of-a-kind Immortality Fruit, used with the farming craft to sow a regenerating seed and an edible fruit that grants a full damage heal!

Check out all the new bonus rewards we've added with this big update:

$25-$10,000 (ALL TIERS) - All levels now include:

  • NEW: Get ready to show off (and teach) your special emote! Each tier will include its own unique, teachable emote!

$50 Tier (IMMORTAL ADVENTURER) - Immortal Adventurer level is a brand new tier!

  • NEW: Available only to backers, you will receive one Immortality Fruit seed. With the Farming Craft you can plant the Immortality Fruit seed, which will bear a single fruit. When eaten, this fruit will fully heal you, and leave you with a single seed which can be planted and harvested, over and over, for all eternity. The Immortality Fruit seed can be transferred between players.
  • NEW: Get your last name early! Ordinary adventurers must reach higher levels to display a last name for their character, but not you! Immortal Adventurers will have the right to select and display both a first and last name right from the get-go!
  • New: Your in-game avatar will receive the honorific title of "Immortal Adventurer" to be proudly displayed for all to see (title visibility controlled by player).
  • NEW: Also includes Adventurer Level Rewards

$60 Tier (FOUNDER) - Founder level now contains:

Nice additions to both the low-end and high-end tiers , but I think that you really do need to add some more in game items to encourage more pledges at the mid-level tiers - Patron, Ancestor, and Navigator levels. Perhaps offer some exclusive Kickstarter outifts or weapons for your character or more house decorations, etc.

    2. Creator Maken X on March 29, 2013

Is there a table for the rewards?

    3. Creator AndiZ27582 on March 28, 2013

@Emilien: Don't think about Episodes like those in games of "Telltale Games".
Think of it more like five games of a quintology. For example Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny and Ultima VI: The false Prophet were three parts of a trilogy, that played in the same world, too.
The difference of Shroud of the avatar to the old Ultima trilogies is, that those won't be five standalone games (beginning with Forsaken Virtues), but games playing in the same persistent universe.
      Hope that helps.
      Cheers,
      Andreas

    4. Creator Stephen C Trawnik on March 28, 2013

Emilien: When I hear talk of Episodes, I think of it as story-line expansion packs. Most tabletop games have the same feature: You have the Base Game, where you could open play and have a lot of starter quests and characters and places, and then you have Quest Packs, which contain story ideas and specific characters and places and events to add on. I think are establishing now the base game, and now know that already the first few expansions are on the table. That's -great- in my mind. It's like we're backing our favorite author's new book or our favorite director's new movie, already knowing that there are plans for sequels. Did it make you enjoy Avatar any less knowing James Cameron already had plans for Avatar 2 and 3?

Then my question: We read that Portalarium is already receiving developer style feedback and suggestions. How can we, if at all, already be participating or helping development?

    5. Creator Rob Vickery on March 28, 2013

*Why does talk of "Episodes" make me feel that the game I backed is now only 1/3rd of a game?

Because you are a glass half empty type of person!

    6. Creator Emilien M on March 28, 2013

Why does talk of "Episodes" make me feel that the game I backed is now only 1/3rd of a game?

If you're planning expansions, I'm one of the persons that doesn't appreciate to hear about them before the first game is even released...even less if it's 2 expansions...

    7. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on March 28, 2013

They are not placing a vendor. You will have the option for a commission free vendor in your house.

    8. Creator Antonidas|Archmage of the Obsidian Order on March 28, 2013

They are unable to edit the tiers once they are added, that is why old tiers don't mention any of the new stuff. It's a safety precaution as things could just as easily be removed by more unscrupulous developers.

    9. Creator Marc Riepen on March 28, 2013

Ok I thought about that too, but since they don't place the house for us, where is this vendor that they now place for us?

    10. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on March 28, 2013

Again, everyone- all tiers include the previous tiers with the exception of the house deeds (you won't get all 3 if you pledge baron for example, but you would get developer level and below.) If you pledge $500, you also get Developer level... if you read developer level description, that includes navigator level...and so on...you will get everything $500 and under.

And I believe the "new! vendor" message is due to them not actually putting up the vendor as a reward. It was only mentioned in chats beforehand.

    11. Creator Marc Riepen on March 27, 2013

      $3,000/$3,500 (BARON/BARON 2) - Baron/Baron 2 levels now contains:

NEW: A special, commission free Vendor!

      ########################################################################

I don't get that tbh... I was under the impression that we already have the vendor that is commission free once we place the house deed?

    12. Creator Charity Becker on March 27, 2013

Just looking for clarity: Will the $500 level get all the goodies from ALL the previous levels, or JUST the Developer level? I pledged a while back, but always happy to see more rewards added!

    13. Creator Peter Jacob on March 27, 2013

@Andi Thankee Andi. That certainly does clarify things. The more paranoid side of me still suspects episodic gaming is a way to weasel out of doing a proper sequel but that was as direct and clear an answer as one could hope for. Hopefully the (title) 2 vs Episode 2 difference is just semantics.

    14. Creator ND3G on March 27, 2013

      @Chris
The issue is not with the info on the Updates page but with the Home page. At the very bottom it clearly states: "[PLEASE NOTE: Pledge rewards contain ALL of the rewards of lower level pledges (with the exception of houses, which are 1 per pledge)!" However, I think for the sake of clarity they should have just posted "Also includes Royal Artisan Level Rewards" under the 100+ Tier heading. I have seen posts in the KS comments and on the chat page over on SotA by people confused about whether or not those in tiers above $80 are getting the Royal Activist rewards. They are but clearly is was not communicated as well as it could have been.

    15. Creator AndiZ27582 on March 27, 2013

And here is, what Lord British said in the Q & A:

"Each “game” will have a story which will last at least 40 hours (for most mortals) even if plowed through. Thus I hope it is the same scale as most Ultima’s. With each new game, the world will more than double, and you will be able to continue into the new story. Each of the planned 5 stories will have a logical beginning to end, and also a longer “meta story”.

    16. Creator AndiZ27582 on March 27, 2013

@Peter: it's like expansions in Guild Wars ; one per year; no monthly fees; 40+ hours gaming time alone for the main story line, if you rush through (per expansion)

    17. Creator Peter Jacob on March 27, 2013

Am very suspicious of this talk of "Episodes". Once upon a time we called those Sequels and they had content worthy of the name and price tag. Are we getting monetized in the face ala EA DLC?

For general comparison, should we be looking at these "Episodes" like World of Warcraft expansions? Was really hoping for a clean story ark with a real ending rather than a trickle down monetized Never Ending Story.

    18. Creator Chris Rusnak | AoUA on March 27, 2013

@Jason There are no mistakes at the time you posted. The $100 level clearly states it contains all the $80 rewards.

    19. Creator Jason Tucker on March 27, 2013

Please confirm that the $100 level also includes everything in the new $80 royal artisan level.

Cmon guys there are mistakes like that in almost every update you post. Please proof read your updates carefully before you send them out! That way there is no confusion. Thanks :D

    20. Creator Vlad Zheleznyak on March 27, 2013

      Question:

Will the higher 150 & 500$ tiers include the new Family Crest design option reward along with all the other stuff in the new 80$ tier? The email did not make it clear.

    21. Creator Tet Yoon Lee on March 27, 2013

Hmm I've always been a sucker for multiple game pledges so even though I'll have to pay slightly more on average then current it's possible a first responder slot will open up... ;-)

    22. Creator Christopher Campbell on March 27, 2013

That's exactly how you get me to up my pledge. Exclusive in-game things. Sitting at $80 now, darn you.

    23. Creator ND3G on March 27, 2013

      Note:

The line "Also includes Royal Artisan Level Rewards" does not appear on the main page update under the 100+ tier heading.

    24. Creator Astron on March 27, 2013

I hope the uniquely tamable pet is something mythic... Like and Unicorn or a Nightmare...

@Rob What cloak? (And I think they are largely just decorative)

@Mathew The reward is you get the full game for cheaper then the release price.

    25. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

Correct, they will be digital downloads.

    26. Creator Benjamin Pritchard on March 27, 2013

      great additions! c'mon 1.4!!

    27. Creator Doug "Dhomal" Raas on March 27, 2013

I presume that since you mentioned "Backers who pledge at Royal Artisan and above will also receive our next two games, Episode 2 and 3, in addition to Forsaken Virtues." that those in a physical box tier will only receive 2&3 as digital, or will they also be physical rewards?

    28. Creator Rob Vickery on March 27, 2013

Can you design your own house or do you only get to choose from pre existing designs? I'm not talking about decorating but designing your own structure.

Will you be able to steal from other players like in UO?

Are the weapons and the cloak offered as a kick starter reward any good? Is the cloak just an item of clothing or does it have any magical properties? Are the weapons good or will a player soon stop using them as they find or make better ones? I basically want to know whether they are just there as unique items mainly designed to indicate we sponsored the game. Or in addition are they cool kick ass monster slaying weapons!

    29. Creator Alexspeed on March 27, 2013

@Portalarium: Thank you for clearing that up, looking forward to upgrading my pledge then =)

    30. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

@Alexspeed, we are working on the main SotA site to allow for upgrading your pledge. Hope to have that ready by the end of this week.

    31. Creator AndiZ27582 on March 27, 2013

compare it to Guild Wars: you only have to pay the game and the expansions.

    32. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

Shroud of the Avatar will not require a monthly subscription fee to play.

    33. Creator Sean Rose on March 27, 2013

I am still trying to find somewhere that is not going to be a monthly fee online game... has that been answered anywhere? I looked via the FAQ's. Its honestly one of the reasons I haven't pledged more than what I did.

    34. Creator arthur gamboa on March 27, 2013

Thanks for the clarification! Day one DLC Has made me weary of terms like "episode".

    35. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

@arthur ~ Yes, you will receive the complete game, Forsaken Virtues, which is episode 1. Backers who pledge at Royal Artisan and above will also receive our next two games, Episode 2 and 3, in addition to Forsaken Virtues.

    36. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on March 27, 2013

@Arthur - All pledges $25+ get a full copy of Forsaken Virtues which is their first full game. Episodes is a poor choice of word, they mean expansions or sequels, similar to how Ultima 7, Ultima 8, Ultima 9 could be considered 'episodes' of the Guardian story but were full games in themselves.

    37. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on March 27, 2013

@Wade - They are planning a story that will arc over 5 games. Each one will expand on the current map. They will be full games - think of the Ultima trilogies and how each one was a complete game but the storyline spread across three games. The new reward will give you Forsaken Virtues plus the next 2. Pretty nice value!

    38. Creator arthur gamboa on March 27, 2013

So wait our $25-$40 pledges do not include the whole game? Will these "episodes" be available for offline play?

    39. Creator Aaron Rogers on March 27, 2013

@Wade Freeman - They said they will be releasing updates (new stories, or expansions) almost yearly for the first couple years.. thats what that is referring to.

Regarding this edible fruit that lasts forever... they said it can be traded, which would also imply that should they implement Stealing into the game, that it can also be stolen, or perhaps looted from your corpse should you forget to use it, depending on how they do pvp and the loot system.

    40. Creator Wade Freeman on March 27, 2013

What are episodes exactly? I'm a little bit confused about what this actually means.

    41. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

We just added a new $80 Royal Artisan tier that doesn't include the $15 non-US shipping. Please use the new $80 tier instead of the previous $80 tier.

    42. Creator Adam Stamos on March 27, 2013

      @Matthew
      I completely agree.

It would be nice if the first and second responders could just add $10 more to their pledge to get the benefits of Immortal Adventurer, $20 more for Founder and $40 more for Royal Artisan etc... etc...

    43. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

We are currently trying to work with the Kickstarter staff to resolve the issue.

    44. Creator Andrea "Cioffaz" on March 27, 2013

      @Matthew: i'm with you.

    45. Creator Andrea "Cioffaz" on March 27, 2013

Not possible to pledge the $80 tier outside US without adding the fee...

    46. Creator Leewelo Lorekeeper on March 27, 2013

Sorrw Lwrael I missed your post. The pledge column has shipping for Roayl Artisan, and not for Virtual Collector. Through Manage your pledge, it's the reverse. And without any physical goodies.
There is no choice bu to add the shipping charge if your KS account tells you're not in the US I believe.

    47. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 27, 2013

We have contacted Kickstarter to have them remove the $15 non-US shipping requirement for the $80 tier (as we are not able to edit that once it has a single backer).

    48. Creator Matthew on March 27, 2013

I understand that you want to increase rewards to get more people to pledge money, but those of us who already pledged are being left behind. First Responders should be getting a lot of these perks simply because we backed you FIRST and helped create the momentum that has carried it this far.

    49. Creator Lyrael, TOWoEOS on March 27, 2013

It's not a case of us not adding it, it literally will not let us pledge without it if it's set up like it is...

    50. Creator Leewelo Lorekeeper on March 27, 2013

Why is there shipping for Royal Artisan? and then not for Virtual Collector?
      I see no physical goodies

      Nice update though ^^
