i thought i saw that citizens and up would get 1 free perpetual vendor/license o ... was i imagining things, i don;t see that listed any more, i thought it was in the updated stretch comments ???

    2. Creator Angry Ogre on March 22, 2013

Will the Seasonal Weather be aesthetic or functional? If it's snowing and I am improperly attired, will it make it more difficult for me to perform tasks? If so, I love it! I always thought it was great that you had to eat in UO in order to get the best gains.

    3. Creator Portalarium, Inc. on March 21, 2013

Yes, you are correct that it is a typo and should read Explorer Level.Unfortunately, we are locked from editing updates once they are posted longer then 30 minutes.

    4. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on March 21, 2013

Jason's talking about the update post above, which indeed says "Also includes Virtual Collector Level Rewards" under Collector. Thats definitely a typo. Every level includes the levels before that except when you get to the house deed levels - each one does NOT include the house deed level below it.

    5. Creator Astron on March 21, 2013

@Jason, what are you talking about? It clearly says includes Explorer level rewards on the right. In the list above it already includes everything in that tier except the explorer title (but they already said when you get a title you automatically get all lower titles and can choose which ones to display).

    6. Creator Jason Tucker on March 21, 2013

Was it a typo that the collector level DOES NOT come with everything in the explorer level? That seems like it's a mistake.

    7. Creator Commander Regel on March 20, 2013

      @Portalarium

Any chance of an update detailing the physical items that are available in the Virtual Collector, Explorer and Collector tiers? I'd be interested in knowing:

How big will the cloth map be?
How big/thick is the printed manual?
How big is the runic language translation print?
Any plans for a physical copy of the Art Book?
Will these items be available to purchase separately after the Kickstarter?

I'm currently on the $30 tier, but eyeing up the higher tiers, but would really like some better idea what I'd be getting.

      Thanks!

    8. Creator Christoph Welsch on March 20, 2013

I'm so looking forward for this ! I hope this game will get as great as Ultima Online. "vendor buy" ! :)

    9. Creator David Bliss on March 20, 2013

@Astron. Love the boat idea. Can't believe just $46K away from first stretch goal. Will be interesting to see how much Pay Pal brings in, especially from Europe. I think $50/$75K is conservative.

    10. Creator Astron on March 19, 2013

I nominate horses and boats for the next stretch goals. Mounted combat and jousting for the horses and sinkable/craftable boats. I mean I know it's pre-blackpowder but there a lot of ways for ancient navies to sink each other before cannons came on the scene... And they didn't have fireball slinging mages to contend with. :-P

    11. Creator Cameron Mitchell on March 19, 2013

@David: I agree not having weather wouldn't be a game/deal breaker.. but if they want more immersion for the players, weather is a must. I'm sure they'll reach that stretch goal regardless.

    12. Creator Aaron Rogers on March 19, 2013

It's truly too bad that people would take back their pledges... They've clearly never played UO before, and once the game is actually released and gains popularity as one of the FEW actual RPG MMMOs out there, they'll think in hindsight "Man, I had a chance to acquire some cool things for this adventure".

      Whoops.

    13. Creator David Bliss on March 19, 2013

Kind of glad the stretch goals aren't of the nature of "This game is going to suck if we don't hit this" nature. I hope all of the stretch goals are of the take it or leave it variety.

That said I would really like pets and seasonal weather. It bugs me when games keep a calendar of the day and year but it has zero relevance on the weather.

As an example of a meh stretch goal, in GW2 you and other players can dance in unison or "in synch" if you will. In that game it is just cheesy fun. I would love if you could be a bard and gain skill by playing songs together in a group using different instruments rather than just playing alone.

    14. Creator Commander Regel on March 19, 2013

      Pets? Really?

      Meh.

But seasonal weather is interesting. I remember the changing seasons in Shenmue on Dreamcast. It was incredibly atmospheric.

    15. Creator Astron on March 19, 2013

Actually as far as I can tell the weapons are standard weapons with a cosmetic change to identify them as kickstarter exclusives and they absolutely wont be able to be purchased with microtransactions later. Many Ultima's had "pets" ranging from horses to Sherry the mouse, ignoring UO. As for titles they've been on the list since the kickstarters launched. Not that you care as you clearly just pledged in the first place so you could troll.

    16. Creator olpika on March 19, 2013

So pets, honorific titles, kickstarter exclusive weapons (most certainly purchaseable later through micro transactions)... All of that really looks like another crappy MMO. I already had much doubts about the quality of this game. But now I'm certain. Garriott plays the nostalgia card, but he's simply making a farmville inspired game. Not for me. I'm taking my pledge back. Garriott doesn't need free money anyway.

    17. Creator Liam Townsend on March 19, 2013

A stretch goal I'd like to see: Sages. For anyone who remembers early Ultima Online, sages gave the game a completely unique role-playing experiencing which I've yet to see in another major MMORPG. Having Origin staff that could create unique items, stories, and objectives made for a more dynamic experience and helped to shape the shards (servers) toward an individualized and somewhat community-driven uniqueness. I'd love to see some of these funds go into hiring a few full- or part-time staff to fill a similar role.

    18. Creator Torsten Behrendt on March 19, 2013

      @ Daniel Hermle

      A very good idea!

    19. Creator T.J. Brumfield on March 19, 2013

I was obviously very excited to see a new Ultima-like game from Richard Garriot, but I only pledged $25 because the tiers simply didn't have enough meat for me to want to pledge more.

I notice that after this update, suddenly there was a boost in funding. Other people may have felt the same way as me, and knowing there is a little more meat in each tier has convinced people to increase their pledges. I'll probably jump from $25 to $60 myself now.

    20. Creator ☆Dame Lori☆ on March 19, 2013

Comparing the goals here to the goals on other projects is silly. First, this game already includes many of the things I'm seeing as stretch goals on others - gender, other OS supported, crafting, houses, and we already have an excellent story writer that didn't even need a stretch goal. Second, I'm seeing other projects asking more substantial amounts for those goals, vs. the petty 100k for each one here. Pets are a pretty major addition to the game, and by 'weather' they are surely referring to weather-based need for clothing and other things, not just graphics as a previous commenter pointed out.

Also worth noting that both are things that players repeatedly requested, and anyone who played UO would understand the pet addition. To those that never played UO - give it a shot before knocking it.

Maybe its just me, but I would be put off if they gave a goal like "better story/dialog/etc" because they rather implies that they weren't going to do a good job of it from the get-go. They also already are planning expansions to the land mass in the next chapters, and already planning on free additional content after launch. I imagine future stretch goals will be similar things like new skills, maybe new customization abilities, etc, because I get the impression they already have the story and map ideas fleshed out to a good degree. (maybe im wrong, but we'll see, we only just started!)

    21. Creator Aaron Elder on March 19, 2013

I'm inclined to agree with Josh Barrett's comment at this point. I hope some better stretch goals will come out soon and change that.

    22. Creator Astron on March 19, 2013

@Josh When they say pets it's really an entire profession they are adding and as for weather it's seasonal weather likely with the need to wear warm clothing in cold regions, not just rain graphical effects. Given how tiny the stretch goals are it's hardly worth complaining about. It's not like they are asking for half a million for them like some kickstarters. Come back on the weekend and they'll be reach and new more ambitious stretch goals will probably be up.

    23. Creator ND3G on March 19, 2013

      @Josh
Look at the Kickstarter for Torment, their second stretch goal was "Pick your own Gender". Does anyone seriously believe that wasn't going to be an option right from the get go?

I understand that some may not appreciate the the addition of pets but for many of us (pretty much everyone who played UO) it is a pretty big deal.

    24. Creator Daniel Hermle on March 19, 2013

Any chance of seeing a separate book of magic in addition to the printed manual in the Collector tier? Thanks for your consideration.

    25. Creator KFC on March 19, 2013

      @Josh,
      yeah I feel the same...

    26. Creator Josh Barrett on March 19, 2013

To be completely honest guys, compared to the other big nostalgia games on kick start, these are the crappiest stretch goals. pets or weather. Honestly a modern RPG without weather? to me it sounds like you picked things your already were doing and named them goals. fair enough I guess. Just kinda lame

    27. Creator Vyrinor on March 19, 2013

Hearty Congratulations all! Let's keep stretching....

    28. Creator ND3G on March 19, 2013

If taming is implemented than I really think they need to implement a method so that pets can be sold through a player controlled vendor/stable like any other resource.

I also think it would be cool if breeding was an option. Animals would be born young and would need to be raised. You could sell someone either a full grown dog or a puppy, or if raising cattle you start with a calf which produces less meat when slaughtered than a full grown cow. Of course, the cost of purchasing meat from a NPC vendor would have to be suitably high to make cattle farming a worthwhile endeavor for players.

    29. Creator Martin Lesage on March 19, 2013

WOW!!!! Awesome!!! I'm glad to be a part of this Kickstarter project!!

    30. Creator BjoernB on March 19, 2013

Must resist...! MUST resist...!! MUST RESIST!!!
      Ah... Oh noes...
      Take my money! XD

    31. Creator Astron on March 19, 2013

@Robbie I'm pretty sure they mean the stretch goal is to add the ability to tame pets. They never said they were going to add taming anyway, just that it was their number one favorite feature to add to the DO list if they get enough funding, ala stretch goal number one.

    32. Creator light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on March 19, 2013

Maybe not taming or barding (whatever barding is).. but attacking for you and guarding you, seems a reasomable assumption to make. Pets to assist you in combat is game changing.. variable weather that adds to the ambience adds to immersion but not game changing really.. but each to their own of course :)

    33. Creator Robbie Cervantes on March 19, 2013

@Nathan The update said these are basically pets that you can purchase from a vendor and will have nothing to do with taming or barding, at least that's what I got from it because from what I understand they are already working on those features so social and combat pets that I can purchase or weather that will put me more in the game and allow myself to immerse more? Yea I'll take weather...

    34. Creator ND3G on March 18, 2013

Trade pets for weather?!? I understand that weather adds a lot to the feel of the game but it really isn't a game changing experience. Running across an ill tempered Bard with three fire breathing drakes for pets is a different story.

    35. Creator Astrobia on March 18, 2013

@Robbie I and I'm sure based on initial reaction to this thread many others disagree with you. But lets aim to have both yes? :-P
As for owning a vendor without a house, you could do it like a consignment store system.
Or something that might look more natural is if each town has a market square lined with lots a tiny stalls each with an existing NPC vendor behind them that players can hire/rent (maybe along with their table/stall for displays? Guess it depends on how item placement and inventory management works).

    36. Creator Robbie Cervantes on March 18, 2013

I don't know about anyone else but I would much rather have a weather system first before pets

    37. Creator Astrobia on March 18, 2013

I'm mostly just deducting here but I get the impression that if you own a house you can hire and place a vendor in it. Whether or not the vendor is accessible to the public or just you and your friends it probably dependant on the layout of your house and where you place the vendor.

    38. Creator light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on March 18, 2013

So then I can assume that owning a vendor and owning a house are not mutually inclusive?

    39. Creator ☆DavenRock the Collector☆ Virtuous Onryo on March 18, 2013

I would hope that having the ability to pay taxes on a house will allow every player to have the chance to own a home, maybe the amount of players able to afford taxes on the house will be slim, and during the first few years there will be only a select few who have marketed like crazy to obtain theirs.

    40. Creator Astrobia on March 18, 2013

They mentions a monthly tax yes but I think they made it clear it was for in game gold. Though nothing is set in stone I suppose.

    41. Creator Bruno Pedroza on March 18, 2013

Great News! lets hit 3 million!

    42. Creator light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on March 18, 2013

Oh yes.. I remember now why I don't visit the forums often.. the layout is very bad for IE8, which I am forced to use at work.. I can't read a thing on there...

    43. Creator light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on March 18, 2013

Ahh yes, the forums.. yes.. I need to remember to visit there more often..

    46. Creator Mark Vang on March 18, 2013

    48. Creator Astrobia on March 18, 2013

I think they are planing on using in game housing as a gold sink for in game currency. So... No real world monthly fee.

    49. Creator light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on March 18, 2013

Ok well.. I can see what I want information on for the next update :P hehehhehe..

More news on housing please! :)

    50. Creator light487 - Kickstarter Junkie on March 18, 2013

See.. I could afford to pay an ongoing monthly for a house.. I just want a guarantee, through my KS pledge, to be able to get a slot.. I don't want a freebie or anything like that.. I'm happy to pay extra.. but simply can't afford $500+ "upfront"..
