Upgraded to Collectors Tier tonight and am so excited... I can remember how hard I worked to earn enough for my Ankh... When I should have been doing Uni assignments, I was restocking my store... I still have all my boxed Ultima games from V onward and my Lord Blackthorn statue still holds a place of pride in my lounge room. I can't wait.... Thank you for bringing the wonder back!!

I raised my pledge to Navigator.
I agree with those that say that having the physical disk is important. I still have my floppy's for U-4,5,6 and 7.
Let's get this game over the 1 Mil initial goal.
Thanks to the developers for adding this inexpensive but greatly appreciated stuff.

    5. Darren Wade on

Like someone else suggested, thank you for updating (and perhaps grouping since now title rewards are their own specific reward for many levels instead of just a couple) the rewards vs pledge level table at the bottom.

I'm likely going to upgrade my pledge soon, but I want to make sure I can afford it. (Like all kickstarters, to upgrade your level you click the blue "Manage Your Pledge" button and change the level and the amount you are pledging. The money hasn't come out of your account yet so you are just saying that when the date hits what amount of money you will be contributing).

I would really like to see a physical art book added to the collector's box. As an artist, that's my favorite part of collector's editions.

I was debating back and forth between the $150 and a lower tier. What would really tip me over is if some of the physical $150 collector rewards were exclusive to kickstarter. Otherwise, I might just wait to purchase these items in the online store later.

As a $3000 contributor, I would love to see some additional collectibles / frame-able / in-game rare items for the higher tiers. It seems the higher level donors were overlooked when it comes to swag.

    12. theAnton on

Thank you for the box, as a game collector I prefer physical copies. :D

    13. TheMightyBoosh on

I commented a while ago that there is little to choose between first/second responder and the founder level in terms of benefits to the player given one is being asked to pony up 100%+ pledge value between the tiers.

Now that all players can call themselves pioneers there is even less point in becoming a founder frankly. I really think that the Founder level needs some love. At the very least something like access to the digital soundtrack and or some ingame minor benefit (such as unique clothing/trade discount) should be at this level.

Leaving as is, then there is little incentive for people (like me granted!) to bump up lower pledges given I would have to spend 100$ to get anything really worthwhile for my money. Yes I know that every cent brings the game closer to reality and all that and no, this is not a rant!!!

    14. Jason R. Wells on

I also have to pledge my vote for the physical copy of the game. I have nothing against digital distribution, but a physical copy lives on and isn't just a set of files on someone elses server. It would be very nice to be able actually "own" the game with a tangible DVD-ROM. I also vote serpent necklace (like Lord British's for the physical artifact. Everything else available for this game sounds amazing though, great work thus far!

      Snorik on

I long for a physical copy of the game, just like with Ultima IV or Ultima V, back in the day. As for the physical artifact- considering the game title, I think it should be an Ankh, wouldnt you agree?
But then again, what did we have: Ankh with Ultima IV, Codex Coin with Ultima V, Orb of the Moon with Ultima VI.
That would imply Serpent Necklace with Shroud.

      So difficult, difficult.
But after a hefty consideration I vote "SERPENT"! Be it Order, Chaos or Balance :D

    16. Vlad on

Kidding aside, I do hope for a physical copy of the game. It will give it posterity in the years to come, when servers may no longer be up but the single player portion will live on inside the collector's box.

    17. ☆Dame Lori☆ on

Nice update! Loving the idea of a physical box, manual and trinket, and the other bonuses are neat too. I'd like to see some additional benefit for the higher tiers (eg. Citizen). Not necessarily physical items that cost money to produce. Agreed that there should be some titles between archivists and citizens. :)

      Thanks for the upgrades!

    18. Vlad on

      @Adal

      haha that will be AWESOME.

I want my game on 4,000 5.25" floppies.

    19. Adal on

What does "Recorded media game (format of recorded media TBD)" mean?

Will we be able to choose between DVD and old-school 3" 1/2 or 5" 1/4 floppy disks? :D

I've post this question even in the forum but I received no answer.
About the Ancestor tier: it's the epitaph included? I'd like to write my own sentence (limited by your rules, of course) in the tomb stone!
Also, how long the name can be? I'd like to use the form: name "nickname" surname
      Thank you!

Oh, how much I love the explorer tier. Too bad you had a such bad luck kickstarting the same time as Brian Fargo's Torment. Already pledge 250 bucks there.
If you offer the possibility to upgrade your tier at a later time I would be inclined to increase my pledge to maybe even collectors level. But for this month the limit is reached.

    27. Jayce Pentad on

To each their own. Tons of pointless swag greatly dimishes how much of the money goes to the actual production of the game. The Collector's set now more or less mirrors what I would have expected in the Ultima era from a collector's edition game so I'm pleased with it. It's more expensive because it's not going to be some massive print run subsidized by a publisher, so that doesn't bother me.

      ParanoidJack on

Glad that some of you seem to think the tiers are filling out a bit more but I'm on the other end of the spectrum. The lower tiers seem somewhat more appropriate but the upper tiers are looking a little sparse for my liking. Hell, in all honesty even the lowest tiers could use a bit more swag of some kind. I'm starting to wonder if others aren't thinking the same thing and holding off on their pledges.

I've gladly pledged hundreds to other projects but their tiers were full of both digital and physical goods at those price points. I would love to pledge for the collectors boxed version yet it seems too over priced for the few items offered at this point. Sorry to say.

Sticking with my Responder tier unless I see the tier filling out a bit more.

Love it...My #1 hope is to hear 'Stones' being played in the game. Here's hoping Iolo can overcome any copyright/trademark issues and be able to play the Ultimate Ultima theme in this one!!!!

    33. Portalarium, Inc. Creator on

@nonobadkitty, Our apologies for the confusion! You will definitely receive the "Pioneer" in-game title at the $25 pledge level (and all levels above that)!

    34. Portalarium, Inc. Creator on

@Chris Taylor, ALL titles from lower level tiers are also granted to higher level tiers! When you are in the game, you will have the option to select none, any, or all, of your titles to be displayed with your avatar for all to see. If you pledge $1,500 or more (LORD level or above), you will have all of the following titles (in addition to any other titles you earn in-game):
      - "Pioneer"
      - "Founder"
      - "Royal Archivist"
      - "Lord" or "Lady"

Great update! I upped my pledge from $60 to $150... I debated on it....but I so remember opening the first box of Ultima III and seeing all the wonderful items spill out all over my Mom's car,,,it was a no brainer. Now, if only I would be asked to compose some in game music for a lonely bard in some far off town. *is this a hint* no...maybe.... ;-)

      Chris Taylor on

Higher tiers of pledges should have the option of any title of the lower donation tiers.

    38. nonobadkitty on

I'm a bit confused on the Pioneer title, in the update text it says any tier of $25 or higher gets it, but in the sidebar it says $33 or more, but then says all tiers now receive in-game "Pioneer" title in the $33 tier description, so are we OK if we only donate $25? Or do we need to up it to $33 or more?

    39. Thrombar on

Upgraded from $100 to $150 (+$15 shipping) - I had forgotten how much I missed opening a new Ultima game and finding a cloth map and a rock and spell books, game lore books, catalogs, order cards etc - I want those days again - thanks Lord British - I am very excited about this game! (Might be time to dust off all the old game boxes and look back inside them).

    44. Paul Carr on

Gah! You've actually got me considering spending $150 on this now. I'm still a little uncertain about whether this game will be what I want it to be though. Hopefully some more information comes through about the single player experience and characters. I don't want to run into an issue like Tabula Rasa... where I got the Collector's Edition but never actually got to play it due to internet issues. Though in this case it would be having a Collector's Edition for a game I don't really want to play (I doubt that will happen, but $150 is a lot of money right now).

    45. Solaris on

Ugggh, so excited about the Physical Collector's Box! I remember opening Exodus: Ultima III. This will be so nostalgic. Thanks Garriott and Co.!

    46. TheAvt on

excellent! text update is definitely better than video ones. i know LB loves video, but during the crowdfunding campaign (due to time constraints), text updates are definitely more constructive.

and LB games are famous for the collector's box editions! great stuff!

Just going to repeat myself here, in case it's easier for Portalarium to keep track of things.
That was a nice swag update, I'm sure there's going to be quite a few being tempted. ;-) I'm looking forward to a bit of an expansion for some of the other tiers too eg. the $500 Citizen tier at this stage doesn't have a title provided in game, only the display option against their home, whereas we have the newly introduced titles, as well as Lords, Barons, Dukes, etc. Wonder if there's plans to include the digital versions of items to the higher & physical tiers, etc.
      @Matt I quite like that idea. ;-)
