Thanks to all Kickstarter backers who explored the Lost Woods with us! We managed to hit our final stretch goal with only 45 minutes left. It was an amazing journey!
If you discover Lost Woods after the project ends, you can order the retail version of the game (when it becomes available) on the Poppy Jasper Games website. While there, you can also join the Poppy Jasper Games email newsletter to hear about future projects.
Lost Woods is an easy to learn adventure game. Players try to escape from the woods by choosing which direction they explore, creating the map anew each time the game is played.
The game is for 1 to 6 players and is ideal for people that like adventure novels and video games. It has many familiar elements, but with unique game play mechanics making it fun for both serious and casual gamers. Games usually last 60 minutes.
The game can be played in different ways, enabling competitive, co-op, and solo game play experiences.
The adventurers find themselves stuck in the Lost Woods equipped with items found around camp. They must find a way out by choosing which direction to explore. Along the way they will uncover more useful weapons, discover wells of magic, and collect gold by defeating dangerous woodland creatures. Use a potion to change your odds. There are gnomes in the woods that will steal your gold. The player with the most gold wins the game when an adventurer makes their way out of the Lost Woods.
The primary mechanic in the game is a randomly generated map assembled turn-by-turn every time someone explores. No two games are exactly alike. Weapons and enemies are drawn from bags. You might fight a squirrel or a wizard! Some maps spaces contain magic wells that grant you access to magic. There's no guarantee that a particular spell will even make an appearance each game.
How to play:
The game contains these parts:
- 48 cards (in 4 directional decks)
- 10 Dice (2 each of D4, D6, D8, D12, D20)
- 6 Wood Game Pawns for the adventurers
- 6 Player mats
- 50 Wood Gold Pieces
- 66 Cardboard Tiles (Weapons, Enemies, Potions and Magic)
- 1 Cloth Bags to hold the tiles
- 1 Starting Camp Card
More components may be added when the stretch goals are achieved.
The Rogue upgrade adds two awesome items to the game. First, you get this faux leather bag to hold your gold instead of a plastic baggie.
Second, you will get these awesome standees that show off the adventurers. It really makes the game come to life. These standees will be a Kickstarter exclusives, and we will not sell them ever again.
Both of these are included in the Rogue, Muse, and Patron levels. They are available to ship anywhere in the world.
Backers at the Scout, Sponsor, Blacksmith, Monster, Pioneer, Merchant and Immortal levels can add these upgrades by adding $12 to their pledge (for each copy, if getting more than 1 game).

Solo / co-op for 1-3 players. Try to get everyone out of the woods alive before running out of food!
Survival Variant Rules:
- Divide all 6 adventurers up among the players. They start with D6 weapon and no gold.
- If an adventurer dies, lay them down on the map space, take no other actions until they are revived (using the revive spell).
- After every adventurer has taken their turn, reduce the food counter by one. If you run out of food you lose the game.
- Gnomes steal 1 food.
- All 6 adventurers must get past the guardian and exit the woods:
- Easy - 20 gold min
- Medium - 30 gold min
- Hard - 40 gold min
We need $25,000 to make the first print run of the game, but with more, we can make the game even better! We hit EVERY SINGLE stretch goal:
*The PNP version will contain these upgrades as well, except the physical components, obviously. :)

"It's like Carcasonne with action." - Adam Rippon
"I keep thinking about the game and the more I think about it the more impressed I get. I can't think of any other games that play like that. It wouldn't duplicate any game in my collection or that I know of. Yeah, really good job. Quite the display of creativity." - Steve Allhoff
"The game mechanics are simple. The dynamic board makes that no two games are alike, that's a thing that I love!" - Marco Gomes
"I can't believe that I had a 20 point lightning bolt and lost to a damn squirrel. That game is rigged I swear." - Jamie Ceglarz

BoardGameGeek Lost Woods
After months of development by the Poppy Jasper Games team, we gave the game to 91 people (in person and via PNP files) and got feedback from them. We did lots of blind playtests, where the players had to play by only reading the rules. We tweaked and tweaked until we had an awesome game. That's how we know... you will love this game.
If you are bidding on any of the pledge levels that provide custom art, please follow these guidelines.
If you want an additional copy of the game, please add $34 for each copy. Shipping is still free for US and Canada. If you are shipping to Europe add $9 for each copy of the game. If you live anywhere else in the world, please add $22 for each additional copy.
Games will ship from warehouses in the US and the EU, close to where most KS backers live, which helps keep shipping costs reasonable.
We want you to have a great experience. We want you to feel that Lost Woods deserves it's spot in your game collection. If anything is wrong with your copy of your game, we will send you replacement parts. If you don't like the game, just tell us why, and you can send it back to us and we will return your money. All requests for new parts or your money back must be made within 1 month of the Kickstarter shipment.
Risks and challenges
We get it, this is our first Kickstarter project. You may be skeptical we can pull this off.
All projects come with some risk. While this is our first board game, it's not our first product launch. Every member of the team has launched several products. We will work tirelessly to overcome issues. We have a very detailed financial model and a healthy timeline.
Brian is an R&D engineering project manager. He has launched a dozen new surgical tools to market, and he knows how to get a product to market.
Danny is a video game designer at Choice Provisions, the company that brought you the BIT.TRIP series. He has launched a half dozen games across mobile and console platforms.
Mike is in QA at Zynga. He has been a part of many game launches. His art is phenomenal and really brings this game to life.
We're using Panda games to manufacture our game. They are known for high quality games (Viticulture, Pandemic, Terra Mystica, Tiny Epic Kingdoms). Unless our boat sinks, you will get this game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
