Who We Are:
Poor Man's Gambit is a trio of traditional artists comprised of Corey Purcell (button accordion, cittern, vocals, bodhran, dance), Federico Betti (guitar, fiddle), and Deirdre Lockman (fiddle, vocals, dance), but any 'ol google search can tell you that! The REAL answer to the question 'Who is Poor Man's Gambit' is that we are three friends who live, eat, and breathe folk music, and love what we do! We all come from different backgrounds, but have somehow found ourselves in the right place at the right time, and are presented with the amazing opportunity to create a new piece of musical art together.
What's the Project?
'The Land of Sunshine' is a project that represents everything that we love about music. The thrilling highs of heart pounding reels, the somber and reflective airs, traditional songs about life in a simpler time, a genre-bending modern cover, and everything in between!
Why we need you:
We began laying down tracks in the beginning of 2019 and are excited to be nearing the finish line, but we're asking for your help to get us there! Producing an album is more expensive than some might think, so below is the budget for our project to give you an idea of what we're looking at:
$8,000 - Recording, Mixing, Mastering (we're thrilled to be working with Mark Dann in NYC on this recording project, he's a genius!)
$1,000 - Album Art (we've got Katie Brier painting an original piece for our album cover, and Hub Willson snapping some studio shots for the inside)
$2,000 - CD Production (we'll be doing high quality 6 panel jackets)
$800 - Kickstarter Fees & Credit Card Processing (Kickstarter charges 5% of the final pledged amount if we hit our goal)
$1,100 - Taxes (Yep, kickstarter proceeds count as income, so we've got to give the gvt their cut)
We're aiming for $6,500 as we've already put a lot of our own funds towards the project to get us this far, and we're hoping that with the support of friends, fans, and general lovers of music, we can wrap this up before the year is out!
What you get:
In exchange for your support, we've come up with some fun gifts as a thank you! You could opt for anything from a digital download of the new album to a private concert in your own home, so take a look to the right --->, and see which level of support works best for you!
What can you do:
If you choose to support us by contributing to this kickstarter campaign, we'd be forever grateful! However, if this isn't the right time, it's not really your thing, or you haven't been successful in convincing your spouse to loosen the purse strings because they're not quite over that time that you blew your life savings on the last awesome band with a kickstarter, we get it. What we do ask is that you share this link and help us get this project in front of as many people as possible over the next 30 days so we can hit our goal and bring this thing to life.
Thank you for considering supporting our project!
---Corey, Deirdre and Federico
Risks and challenges
This is the part where we're supposed to put your minds at ease that if you take the risk in supporting this venture, we'll follow through and get you what we promised.
Here's the simplest way we can put it: We're doing this. We've come way too far to not finish this project, and we're committed to bringing it to life one way or another. We've put in the thought to the different contribution levels, and are 100% devoted to not only finishing this project, but doing it within our budget and our stated timeline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
