A WORD FROM OUR SIMIAN AGENT
SpIWIT is the lisp-inducing acronym for Species Intelligence Weapons Integrated Taskforce, an elite group of animals enlisted in the resurgence of an abandoned MI7 project; animals possessing certain characteristics wherein said traits are enhanced and loyalty ensured by certain subtle but coercive means.
Needless to say, when men play God, the dog bites back. There were many failures. Given my own numerical designation - 511 - you can imagine how many.
I was one of the few successes, now employed to bring to heel those amongst the Taskforce who have seen fit to take matters into their own hands/paws/hooves.
MI7 have been scanning the London area for the whereabouts of Mr Fluffy. One would think it would be simple enough to locate the whereabouts of a cat endowed with opposable digits. Alas, the feline fraternity is a secretive one. We can, however, rely on the street-strolling gutter hounds to roll over on their furball nemeses when a nice piece of steak is in the offing.
Mr Fluffy has plans. Well-laid out ones I’d wager, and tell-tail-tongue waggers have heard rumblings, yet to be confirmed.
Your timely intervention on my first mission - to locate and capture Dr. O - was paramount to its success. I hope I can rely on you to aid the thwarting of our thumb-wielding rogue before pussy gets too big for his bootys.
Until then, I remain,
Bubbles O’Seven: Simian Agent.
MEET TEAM 511
Gráinne McEntee, Writer (Aspiring)
The manifestation of Bubbles O'Seven was brought to life over drinks shared by Gráinne and artist Matt during a discussion about a mutual love of the spy genre. (Though to be fair, Gráinne is slightly more obsessed with it than Matt.) From there, the star of the story was born - a "what if Richard Harris played James Bond as a Bonobo." Obvious, right? Gráinne has contributed short stories to Torsobear, Dead Roots and the annual Adventures in Comics and continues to develop her first comic project with Matt Rooke, Apes 'n' Capes. Bubbles O'Seven will be her most ambitious project to date.
Lee Killeen, Layouts, Art and Colours
Lee Killeen is a fine art graduate from Liverpool, UK. The writer and artist on 'Above Us Only Sky, and Patreon exclusive 'Cold Fingers' as well as contributor to comics such as 'Torsobear' (Dead Universe Comics), Apes 'n' Capes plus many more. A huge fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and most 80s/90s Saturday morning cartoons, Lee draws influence from cartoons as much as he does from comics. He started creating comics in 2011 and hasn't looked back. His latest book is 'Above Us Only Sky #2' available on ComiXology now.
(After the completion of Bubbles' missions, the writer must orchestrate the artist's demise who has documented that mission so they don’t reveal Bubbles' secrets and his true purpose. Mr Killeen, of course was and remains unaware of this part of the arrangement when he signed his contractual agreement with MI7 so for now, let’s just you and I keep that between ourselves…)
Mike Stock, Letters
Mike boasts an extensive and impressive list of independent comics to which he has lent his lettering skills, The Kill Screen, The Pride and Afterlife Inc, to shout out just a few. His talent with speech bubbles made him the obvious choice to work on this series.
And a final special mention to our colleague and friend, Matt Rooke, forever immortalised in his lines for Bubbles’ first mission, Dr. O. Tis a cruel fate indeed that such a talent be taken from us so young. Forensics revealed nothing to suggest foul play regarding the explosion, though the smell of bananas in the air continues to contaminate the scene. His clone Mattius Rooke will take up the helm as Editor-in-Chimp for BABOON TAKER and is the genius behind Bubbles' promotional video work. His A5 sketches will be included in this second mission debrief document.
Plans for the Present
A late decision but we feel important to give the Kickstarter the best opportunity to be a success. We are allowing it to run until November 1st so we can benefit from extending Bubbles audience to MCM London (28-30 October), which we will be attending. We hope we'll meet some of you there! The extension will not affect timescale for completion of Issue 2.
What plans for Bubbles O'Seven's future?
The first Kickstarter was a brilliant success, thanks to those amongst the crowdfunding fraternity who saw fit to invest in the beginnings of Bubbles' story. An anthology charting Bubbles' adventures in the world of espionage is still on track with the third mission currently being compiled. The artistic talents of Mike Hartigan have been secured (Kickstarter success dependant) and the crowdfunder for said mission, The Ape Who Punched Me, will launch in January 2017. Thereafter, there will be a brief hiatus and the next Kickstarter will launch Summer 2017 and be our most ambitious, aiming to raise enough funding to complete the next three missions.
Each mission will have a different artist involved (assuming we can convince them of course) to make it a truly interesting series. 10 episodes in all.
In the meantime, blend your leaf green smoothies, blow some bubbles and beware the plaintive meow of a kitty. They always have an agenda, and it will usually involve your thumbs.
DunDunDah. DunDunDah. DunNunNUNNUN!
Hairy High Fives,
Gráinne, Matt & Team 511.

HOW WILL YOU SPEND THE MONEY?
Funds raised will go towards the cost of the print run and paying our creative team for their time and talents who are working right now to make sure use your investment lives up to expectations.
Like our ape brethren, we like to keep things simple and uncomplicated. The rewards we have set in this project are all achievable within the set timeframes.
Our only real obstacle is convincing you - our potential investors - that we can deliver a great story and super-sexy artwork with an investment well spent on an independent comic project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
