Having performed various programs featuring colorful and dramatic motets by Giaches de Wert, Carlo Gesualdo, Claudio Monteverdi, and Orlande de Lassus over the years, Pomerium now has the opportunity to record a CD of these works in the Fuentidueña Chapel at The Cloisters in June 2011. If you have heard Pomerium perform any of these extraordinary pieces in its recent concerts, you will know that this music is overwhelming in its sonorities and expression. Like the late sculptures and architectural works of Michelangelo and those of his followers, Mannerist motets of the sixteenth century stretch the expressive power of Renaissance techniques. The motets in our program portray such emotional scenes as the windstorm on the sea, when Christ and his disciples were nearly swamped by the waves, or Saul's conversion on the road to Damascus.
Through a convergence of fortunate events, Pomerium can now record these amazing pieces in a space that will allow them to deliver their full sonic impact. This will be Pomerium's second CD on its new label, Old Hall Recordings. We are excited to have this opportunity!
To help cover the costs of the forthcoming recording, Pomerium is appealing directly to its audience to make donations of any amount to our $4,000 Kickstarter campaign. Whether you contribute $1 or $1,000, we will be grateful for your help. Unless they request otherwise, all those who pledge $25 or more will have their names listed in the CD booklet as supporters of the project. We hope you will be among them. Pomerium is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
