The goal of this Kickstarter is to fund and promote Group Chat: a comic anthology full of stories celebrating the people who have your back no matter what.
Group Chat features 24 up-and-coming creators, all telling stories about the people who have your back no matter what. This book has nearly 200 pages of gorgeous, super fresh art, all bound in a stunning cover by Victoria Grace Elliott, the creator of balderdash!
Group Chat spans genres from sci-fi to slice-of-life; from westerns to witchy shenanigans to coming-of-age stories. These comics —feeling good about your body after a mastectomy, two friends supporting each other through the creation of a trans fashion line, learning to appreciate your best friend's chucklehead boyfriend, and others—were carefully chosen for their humor, heart, and beauty from a wide range of up-and-coming creators.

Group Chat Editorial & Production:
Our rewards include a charming and gorgeous mobile background version of our cover as well as physical and digital copies of not only Group Chat but pieces of the entire POME Press collection!
We're also making a super cute, 1"x1" enamel pin for certain tiers! Featuring the phone from the back cover of our book with an emoji chosen by our Twitter followers as being the emoji they most associated with Group Chat.
Keep your eyes peeled for brand new reward tiers as we get closer to our goal.
Here is our breakdown of Kickstarter expenses:
Paying Artists: Most of our budget goes straight back into the hands of our creators. In addition to paying each creator (or creative team) $50 per page, we are also providing them with 10 complimentary copies of the book for their own resale purposes, shipped at our expense.
Printing Physical Books: Roughly 20% of our budget goes into printing physical copies of the book. However, this percentage may rise depending on the number of physical copies ordered through this Kickstarter.
Taxes and Fees: Just under 10% of the budget goes back into Kickstarter fees, state and federal taxes, and related purposes.
Additional Expenses: The categories listed above represent the bulk of this Kickstarter's expenses. However, we may commission artists to produce original content for new reward tiers during this campaign. Additionally, your funds may go towards supplies like envelopes, mailers, postcards, and other materials. If the total amount of money raised through this Kickstarter exceeds our highest stretch goals, those funds will be put towards upcoming POME Press projects.
All of our stretch goals go straight back into our talented and amazing Group Chat contributors.
$15,000: All contributors get +$10 per page and all physical reward pledges come with a bookplate sticker specially designed to compliment the Group Chat aesthetic!
$20,000: All contributors get +$20 per page.
$25,000: All contributors get +$30 per page.
A very special thank you to Tommy Swenson for putting together our Kickstarter video for us (you're the best!!) and to A Walker Spring for the use of her song "Clarinet Party". Also thank you to all our amazing, wonderful contributors!! Also thank you to our dogs, we love you very much.
Risks and challenges
Because the book is done and the initial payment for creators is already secured, the only potential risk to getting rewards done on time is possible delays in printing. We're printing through KENESS, a print shop based near Pittsburgh, PA, and we've printed with them before (for our second run of Sensible Witchcraft). We've also already started the printing process for Group Chat with them! Because of our previous experience printing with KENESS, we're confident that the books will be done on time and that they'll be of excellent quality.
Other than that, we'll be shipping through USPS, and the normal risks through shipping apply. If you don't receive your reward within a reasonable time, we'll work to make sure you get this beautiful book into your hands as soon as possible!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
