The Eternal Battle (Canceled)
Cooperative tactical boardgame with RPG elements designed for 1-4 players. With non-linear plot takes place in fantasy setting.
The Eternal Battle – cooperative tactical boardgame with rpg elements (and with miniatures and terrain!) designed for 1-4 players. With non-linear plot takes place in fantasy setting .
All battles in the game happen on the game tile (that is divided into squares). Heroes and enemies are represented by high quality miniatures. Enemies are controlled by the game and act accordingly to their AI (written in the Tactic cards). Depending on edition of the game terrain will be different. In steel edition you will get cardboard terrain, in others – there will be plastic (PVC) 3D terrain (and it will make the battlefield really beautiful). Terrain will create different landscapes and make combat more interesting and tactically advanced.
High quality miniatures.
Most of the heroes` actions will depend on the result of 10-sided dice roll. Battle is turn-based and has strong cooperative elements. Between the fights the Eternal Battle gives a lot of roleplay possibilities for those who like roleplaying. (game designer joked about it as "D&D from the box")
Like D&D from the box, but do not need hours of preparation and a Game Master
The Eternal Battle has two game modes: single mission and story campaign. In both modes players control heroes: they are unique, have own background, and through the course of adventure they will get new abilities, find new treasures and follow a non-linear story (it`s not just words).
Unique heroes. Non-linear story!
1st campaign that can be found in all game versions is “Jackals of the Borderland”. It concentrates on epic skirmishes taking place in the borderlands while two great countries are on the brink of war. What are heroes going to do? Will they save a young noble from the hands of gnolls? Would they slay great champion of Broken Fang clan? Could they stop the war? You will find all the answers in the “Jackals of the Borderland” campaign book.
Campaign, where every choice leads to a specific scenario, different from others
2nd story campaign (that you will get in extended versions) more focused on small scale events and local characters. It starts in the small village that suffered a bandit raid. Who would survive to the end of the campaign, and who will fall under the marauder`s blades, while trying to protect the innocent? Will it be a weary but stalwart soldier? Or an old but smart herbalist? A bitter and fearless blacksmith? A former poacher with heart of gold?.. And many more – play “Heroes for Hire” story and you`ll be able to choose their fate.
Story-driven campaign, where your decisions will affect fate of the characters you might like
The single missions let you play one quick game. You will get some equipment at a start of the mission, and you will have objectives that you must fulfill. Every mission has some story behind it, every mission will be different. Some will ask you to protect important NPC. Sometimes you'll need to defend outpost from the assault. Some battles will end only when you`ll be the last men (and women) standing. Some will force you to clash with powerful bosses. And there are many more missions with different playstyles.
Every mission has different objectives and special rules
Rules are quick to learn and easy to understand, while still creating a lot of tactically advanced challenges for the players. The game has optional rules that you can use to make things more complicated and tactical (if you like it this way). One of the optional rules will be difficulty settings, which give you opportunity to beat the game on old school hardcore.
Quick to learn. But has a lot of advanced options
About game balance. In the Eternal Battle there are no “optimal” amount of players. You can play solo or there can be four of you, balance will not shift. Heroes are unique and there are several ways you can build your own character. Want to build your knight as regular “tank”? Go for it! Want him to be a frontline killing machine with tons of attacks – do it! Your hunter can be a killshot sniper,or a nimble runner who can disable any trap. And so on.
We are an independent studio. We are enthusiastic about our work and for the past one and a half years we have been developing this game, entirely at our own expense. We created a whole world, with highly thought-out history, geography and geopolitics. We gave life to our world through illustrations and sculptures of heroes and enemies. We created the game mechanics, supported it with a lot of tests, received a huge amount of positive feedback. In the end we forged it all together and get the Eternal Battle boardgame. And now it's time to share it with you. We are here, because we need your help in raising funds to manufacture this game. Please, support us – and our game will be yours too!
We made bunch of 3D models. But we did not stop here. We made minis for our game prototypes (even paint them). Now, we totally understand how all of the production will work.
We made tons of art. Our equipment decks are full of unique stuff. 53 equipment cards forming three decks (Starting Equipment, Iron Chest, Gold Chest) and they have 51 unique art in them. That`s right, only two cards have pairs. But it`s not just quantity – it`s quality too. We made good art. We want every weapon and armor to be unique not only by stats, but by their looks too.
If you're interested in purchasing any of these optional buys, please click "Manage Your Pledge" button on this page and simply increase your pledge on the amount of the item`s cost. We'll sort out what your extra money is going towards via our Pledge Manager after the campaign ends.
First of all you can read web version of the Rulebook here.
The web version lacks background image and some arts to make the file lighter. But if you do not want to rummage through the rulebook, we`ll give you short version of what you can wait from our game.
To start the game: open the campaign book that you want to play (single mission page, if you want a single mission). You`ll see story text block (that gives info about what`s happening), and rules text block (that tells how to prepare you heroes for the game).
Most of the time players must choose their heroes, take their starting equipment and get ready for action. The campaign book will tell you what mission you will start from. Just go to that page.
open campaign book and get ready to action
At the start of the mission there are: story text block, setup rules, and special rules for this mission (for example: one of the gnolls will try to run away, or there will be an enemy reinforcement every turn, or there will be NPC that will help you, etc). There also will be Victory conditions.
Every mission is different not only by rules, but by the story that will lead you further
The game is turn-based. And the turn sequence depends on Agility of a creature. More agile folk – act first. When every creature on the game tile finished their turns – round ends.
Most agile folk act first
Hero can make several types of activities (in any order): MOVE, ACTION, BONUS ACTION. Move is pretty self explanatory. ACTION can be used: to MOVE again, to make an Attack, to pick up equipment from the ground or operate some quest items (and some more stuff). BONUS ACTION is very special type of activity. BONUS ACTION can be used: to activate abilities or skills of the hero. Some powerful abilities can be activated only by spending BONUS ACTION and ACTION simultaneously. To make things straight: Agnette starts her turn close to the wounded Lars. She spends BONUS ACTION to heal him. Then moves (MOVE) to closest enemy and whacks him with her mace! (ACTION)
At the start of every round you draw one Fortune and one Tactic cards. Fortune cards stands for pure luck. Sometimes luck is on your side –you`ll get some advantages (or enemies will have troubles). Sometimes luck choose to stand against you. Tactic cards represent AI of your foes. Most of the time enemies will try to harm heroes, but when they will have choice, which hero to harm – they look up to Tactic cards. Some tactic cards completely change behavior of your foes: wounded gnolls will try to run away, scouts will use more defensive tactics, veterans will hit harder –and so on.
Your enemies have some hierarchy. And you will find scratches on their shields and pauldrons – they are not just scratches, they are Roman numerals. So when a group of gnoll archers activates – the lowest number will act first.
Gnolls have hierarchy. The first in the pack fights first and eats first
When you complete the mission, you will find the victory outcome text block that tells you what you will get (loot, level up, how many wounds your heroes can heal). Then there will be the story text block (that can be different depending on how you manage the mission). Depending on your actions –you will have a choice, what to do next. Sometimes you can go shopping before moving further, most of the times you will have at least two choices, what your next task will be (sometimes there will be no choice. For example: when you failed to capture and interrogate a particular enemy – you lack in clues, and some paths are closed to you).
Your story AND your ending will be different depending on the choices you made in the process
Optional rules. We want our game to be easy to learn, but hard to master (cliché!!!). That`s why we work so hard on rules and balance. And we think that we`ve made a pretty good job. But it doesn`t mean that you can`t improve things, right? For more complex and tactically advanced gameplay you can use one or several optional rules (check them in the rulebook). We`ve designed special cards and tokens specifically for these optional rules.
Optional: more advanced rules for people who like in that way
Want more tasks in every mission? No problems. Mushroom goblin will bring havoc to the battlefield, rendcleavian wolfhound will be a formidable enemy or a loyal friend (if you`ll win its trust), deadman`s curse will dump your abilities, and steppe dog`s pup will be so cute – you`ll do anything to save its life.
Optional: secondary tasks and side quests
Want to play “high risk – high reward” game? War cards will give your enemies special abilities, but if you would overcome those obstacles – you`ll get more stuff at the end of the mission.
Optional: enemies can have special abilities too
Want to use more complex rules of cover? Sure thing! These rules will help you to hide from foes, but enemies will be harder to hit too.
Optional: more realistic rules for shooting
Want the game to be more hardcore? No Divine Intervention for you! Want the game to be less punishing? Push you way through the enemy ranks or just avoid their traps. And we are not throwing these rules inside just for show. We`ve tested every one of these rules in every combination possible. So, feel free to use them or to ignore completely – the choice is yours!
All rules are tested and balanced
