Once upon a time...
someone asked if I had ever considered putting my photos on a deck of playing cards. At the time, I had not, but it struck me as something that might be a fun thing to do. 3 years later, it is getting done...
WITH ALL NEW STUFF!
Yes, we have 4 completely new sets for this project, photography by the amazing Jerry Seeger. These photos have not been seen anywhere else ever, and WILL NOT EVER be shown anywhere other than on these decks. Even those photos in the project photo banner? Just previews, to give you an idea of what you're getting. The images on these decks are ONLY on the decks.
But wait, there's more!
Not only are these photo sets unique to the deck, we have incorporated a small object into each theme, the number of which in each image corresponds to the card on which it is seen. So for Jacks, there will be 11 of the object in the photo, etc. And they're not always easily visible. So in addition to your regularly-scheduled card game shenanigans, there is an extra layer of fun to be had arguing with your friends about the number of objects in each photo and whether or not we screwed up in our counts!
(Spoiler: We didn't, but there were a few near misses.)
But speaking of things we screwed up, yes, the decks will include Jokers, so... yeah, there will be that.
"I am quite the playing card pedant and as such require more information" -You, perhaps, right about now
The decks will be printed on 300gsm cardstock with a blue core center to reduce transparency, have a gloss UV coating for both scratch protection and to enhance the artwork, and will include clear plastic storage boxes. They will be what is referred to within the print trade as "supernice".
Where the money goes
We've set our funding target to cover the number of decks we need to purchase from the printer in order to get them at the price point we want, along with Kickstarter fees and US shipping costs. We will also be making a $1-per-deck donation to Toys for Tots.
So grab your deck now, because...
The pricing you see here will be available ONLY to our Kickstarter backers. Once the decks go up for sale elsewhere, the price will go up.
Risks and challenges
Most of the work has already been done. The photos are shot, and we're already working on cropping & formatting them for the cards. By the time we're funded, we will be ready to upload everything to the printer and place the order.
The only real risk is that we don't fund. Which would be sad. So please tell your pinup & playing card-loving friends about us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
