The most famous portrait sitting of Bram Stoker
Bram Stoker was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1847 and in the 104 years since his death, he's become the undisputed Godfather of the Vampire in gothic literature, spawning an entire genre' of authors who have written countless books using the image of the sensual, undead Count as a basis for their own work. Stoker's influence cannot be denied as his titular character can be seen in pop culture from games, comic books, toys, clothing...the list is endless. Indeed, "Dracula" is remade as a film endlessly and each new generation discovers it's own iconic and immortal Count as an emblem of darkness to be embraced.
Renowned artist Graham Humphreys' incredible project poster
I've been quite privileged to be a part of the kickstarter community to crowdfund busts of other horror authors to be placed in their hometowns. H.P. Lovecraft at the Providence Athenaeum Library in Rhode Island...
Edgar Allan Poe at the Boston Public Library in Massachusetts......
....and now, with your help, I'd like to place a life size, bronze bust of Bram Stoker in the city of his birth at the Dublin Writers Museum on World Dracula Day, May 26th which is also the 119th anniversary of the original publication date of "Dracula".
Dublin Writers Museum 18 Parnell Square Dublin, Ireland
Joining me on this project is no less than Dacre Stoker, Bram's great-grand nephew who has secured the endorsement of the Bram Stoker Estate which marks the first time the family of such an icon of horror literature has lent their support to such a project.
“ I am very pleased to be a part of the Bram Stoker Bronze Bust Project. The Stoker family would ultimately like to see a statue of Bram displayed in a prominent location in Dublin. A bronze bust is certainly a fitting tribute and this effort by Bryan Moore is to be commended and is worthy of our family's support.”
Bram Stoker's great grand-nephew Dacre Stoker, author and managing partner for the Bram Stoker Estate
Also aboard is legendary Stoker scholar David J. Skal, author of "Hollywood Gothic: The Tangled Web of Dracula from Novel to Stage to Screen" and "The Monster Show" who will be reading from his upcoming landmark biography of Bram Stoker "Something in the Blood: The Untold Story of Bram Stoker" for the first time in public at the unveiling.
"Bram Stoker and his extraordinary novel have received serious critical attention only in recent decades," Skal said. "It's attention long overdue and this wonderful tribute at an important literary institution will help solidify Stoker's reputation as one of the most influential imaginative writers of all time."
Author, Bram Stoker scholar and filmmaker David J. Skal
Supporters of these bust projects include "Game of Thrones" creator George R.R. Martin, Author of "30 Days of Night" Steve Niles, Peter Straub, author of "Ghost Story" and Neil Gaiman, author of Coraline, The Sandman series and American Gods who will also be contributing signed copies of "The Annotated Dracula" to our donors. Filmmakers Stuart Gordon and Guillermo del Toro have also been incredibly generous in lending their continuous support to placing these busts of horror authors along with thousands of fans across the globe
Part of the joy of doing these author bust projects is the pleasure of getting to work directly with fellow fans of these titans of horror. Together we placed bronze tributes of Lovecraft and Poe in their hometowns and now, let's do the same for the author of Dracula and bring Bram home.

Risks and challenges
Having now run two extraordinarily successful Kickstarter projects before with the H. P. Lovecraft Bronze Bust Project and the Edgar Allan Poe Bronze Bust Project, I learned a lot. The most effective tool that the teams and I utilized was constant communication with our project backers in the form of updates and video blogs that tracked the progress of the sculpture, casting at the bronze foundry, the installation and the successful delivery of nearly 1000 rewards levels respectively.
While the sculpture and installation of the busts themselves was the "easy" part, it was the arduous task of getting all the promised rewards levels to each of the donors. This has always been the biggest part of each Kickstarter campaign, but every reward level reached its final destination. A few came back due to changed addresses or a damaged shipment, but I stood by my Kickstarter promise, and made good on every single reward level.
We'll be using the same bronze foundry and monument company as we have before. They deliver the goods on time and on budget and the hope is that we'll see many of our same donors back again to support this worthy endeavor.
It is my hope that I continue to earn the trust and confidence of each project backer the same way I have before: constant communication, delivery of product on time as promised and an achieved goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
