"a bingeworthy comedy podcast ... an impressively ambitious show, with a complicated story arc and clever original songs." -- Refinery29 (Funniest Comedy Podcasts To Listen To Right Now, 2019)
THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF SUNSHINE IS BACK!
Greetings Traveler! Have you heard the good word? Fall of the House of Sunshine - the award-winning musical comedy podcast that The New York Times calls “manically incomprehensible” - is returning for a 3rd and final season! Tooth be praised!
Sunshine, one of the first musical podcasts ever, is a totally unique auditory roller coaster ride - a murder mystery whodunnit that quickly unravels into a lovingly crafted world of action, adventure, noir and musical comedy shenanigans. Featuring a cast of Tony- and Emmy- nominated actors and voice actors from Broadway and Prime Time television, immersive audio production, and a fully orchestrated soundtrack with over 110 musical numbers through the first two seasons, Fall of the House of Sunshine has built a singular podcast experience for your singular (doubular?) ears.
And it’s totally free, and totally ad-free.
Created in 2016 by local schlubs Jonathan Goldberg (book) and Matt roi Berger (lyrics and music), Sunshine has been a labor of love - expensive, back-breaking love - for 27 glorious full episodes, plus multiple addendum, world-building extras, fan-appreciation episodes, and more for a grand total of 87 podcasts in the stream! And they’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Their goal now is to create a third - and final - season that will finish each story arc and wrap up the questions left hanging from seasons one and two.
And like the jump from season one to two - which saw the episodes double in length, plus the addition of two standalone-ish totally musical episodes, all while maintaining the highest standard for audio quality and storytelling - they want season three, with a planned release of Spring 2020, to be even better.
That’s where you - glorious, wonderful you, come in.
"It’s a wild, kinetic listen with so many surreal moving parts and rapidfire jokes ... something entirely unique and exhilarating. " Wil Williams, DiscoverPods
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Before we even turn on the microphones, the 'Bergs spend 6+ months writing, editing and table reading every episode and song, scheduling the recording process and organizing the release schedule. They do it themselves to keep costs down before entering the studio.
The podcast has always been, and will remain, ad-free. So while the writers receive no profit from the show, the expenses of creating something like Sunshine can really add up.
First and foremost, Sunshine thrives on the work of our incredible production team. In Season 2, that was the incredible trio of Marcus Bagalå, Will Melones and “Ramblin” Rob Heath. If you enjoyed the the audio quality and pacing last season, you have them to thank. Raising the funds for Season Three will support us in
- Recording - It takes two weeks of 10-hour days (with some pick ups) to record a season of Sunshine! The production team makes sure we are on schedule and getting the takes and quality audio we need for the show and the schedule to work.
- Assembly - We record Sunshine out of order to account for our amazing actors’ schedules, and the production team has to both make sure we get every last line recorded, and then, weeks later, put it all back together.
- Mixing - Each episode takes multiple weeks of edits. First, a basic edit for notes on takes, then tireless hours spent tweaking for pacing and comedic timing.
- Sound Design - Half of our storytelling happens when folks stop talking, and our team does amazing work to create a 100% audio world that breathes and lives and supports the action.
- Mastering - Actors record over multiple weeks, and sing and talk into different kinds of microphones. In addition, the musical numbers occupy a totally different audio space then our scenes. Our team masters the audio so that everything sounds like it was recorded in the same space at the same time at the same levels - even when two actors record weeks apart due to scheduling conflicts.
- Hosting - We pay for a Soundcloud Pro account to host the RSS feed, as well as our website where we post cast bios, lyrics and scripts. We also pay for Dropbox and Slack to facilitate the production process.
But there wouldn’t be anything to edit if we didn’t first have our incredible, award-winning cast!
"aggressively weird ... totally hilarious and engaging" Constant Listener
Since the beginning, we’ve been lucky / thankful / blessed to have the willing voices of so many Broadway belters, television regulars and voice acting superstars. Each actor is compensated for their contributions (as they of course should be) and they each own a portion of income for the music they record for the show. By supporting the show - here, or when you download our music! - you are supporting the hardest working cast in Tooth and Puppet-based musical comedy audio drama.
In addition to all this, your backing will fund production costs including Recording Space, Equipment, Script and Sheet Music Printing, and numerous other expenses that pop up when you are creating a musical podcast.
A season of Sunshine usually costs the creators around $10,000. However, we are asking for your support to raise just half of that, $5000, while we seek to raise funds ourselves as we always have.
That said, we have numerous Stretch Goals that will unlock secret episodes and more. If we can raise the full $10,000 here on KickStarter, you will see an expanded season, full of extra goodies and music for all!
6K – A bonus mini episode every week that connects to the main show.

"One of the weirdest, most delightful audio dramas I’ve ever listened to ... it quickly became one of my favorites. It holds a special place in my heart right next to similar musicals like The Rocky Horror Picture Show." -- The Fantasy Inn
We are immensely grateful to all our listeners and to you for your support. Please consider backing, and spreading the word about the KickStarter. With your help, Season 3 will come to life, and our long, strange story will be brought to a fitting conclusion!
And fear not! If Spring 2020 seems too far away to get your Sunshine fix, tune into the stream this Summer and Fall for Fuzztown stories - a series of stories and monologues that build and expand on the Season 2 universe much like Brushtown Stories did for Season 1!
We love you! Thanks for listening - and have a Suntabulous Bicuspid of a Day!

Risks and challenges
Making a podcast as ambitious as The Fall of the House of Sunshine has many risks - but we have two seasons of experience behind us, as well as 35 weeks of main storyline production schedule that have all been released on time, all with the highest standard of audio production. We operate a schedule that is finalized months ahead of time, with scripts and music finished a full half-year before release, so nothing is left to chance. In addition, we are raising money to pay the best professionals we know to lovingly craft this show, and their talents on the first two seasons speak for themselves. If we reach our funding goal, expect Season Three - the final season of Sunshine - in your ears Spring 2020.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
