About this project
This bear has just arrived, and it has some bad news for you. Color, laugh, and feel bad with this new "The Bear of Bad News" coloring book. This book contains 12 (+7 so far from stretch goals!) original pen and ink drawings of the Bear giving all kinds of bad news to you, including:
"There's no cake left."
"Your social media followers don't care about you."
"Your pants don't fit anymore."
And many more horrible pronouncements. Awesome.
And for every $150 past our original goal, we'll add another page to the book with another terrible revelation. What fun.
We're aiming to ship this book in early December so you'll be able to get it just in time for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, or whatever weird holiday you routinely celebrate. Joy.
UPDATE: Anyone who backs the project with a physical reward will ALSO get a digital PDF version sent your way too, so you can start coloring before the book arrives!
Because it's darkly hilarious.
Because coloring is relaxing, fun, and makes you feel like a kid again.
Because you can use this bear to deliver news you don't have the courage to do to your friends, co-workers, and loving family.
What's in the book?
This 8.5" x 11" coloring book will feature 12 illustrations drawn by hand featuring the Bear giving bad news to the reader/colorist. From trivial things like "There's no cake left" to disturbingly fun things like "Your condition is inoperable." Check out these preview pages:
If we exceed our goal of $1000, we'll add 1 additional illustration for each $150 after the goal! So it'll start at 12 illustrations, but if, for example, we get $1150, the book will have 13 illustrations. If $1300, 14 illustrations, and so forth. This means the more exposure it gets, the better the book will be for you, so please share it around.
Other news the Bear may give*
*depending on stretch goals
"You're not as selfless as you assume."
"At least 200 animal species go extinct every year."
"There's a strip mall where your childhood home used to be."
"Your cat ran away."
"Most of your friends will cancel at the last minute."
"A long, curly, white hair has randomly started growing out of an unexpected part of your body."
And many more. The more stretch goals we get, the more the book will feature, which we'll get to now:
For every $150 after our original goal of $1000 that gets reached, we'll add another page into the coloring book of the bear giving a devastating statement. So please spread the word.
UPDATE: Additional extra page stretch goals revealed!
So now the number of backers counts as well as the amount of money we get for the project. Woo! These pages could start to add up quickly!
The money raised for this book will cover the following:
- Printing: The cost of making this book into a reality
- Kickstarter/Amazon Fees: A very foreseen circumstance of all KS projects
- Shipping and Fulfillment: Making sure the bad news you get isn't "We put the wrong address on your package"
- Artistic Creation: Art supplies, time implemented, careful design, and lots and lots of coffee
- Time for crying: It takes a lot to process all this bad news.
- Extra stuff: Gives us a buffer for various unforeseen bad news that is sure to happen because we all die someday
Elizabeth Jancewicz is the young and immensely talented artist behind this book, and has been working as a full time artist for 5 years. She is the live on-stage painter for the band Pocket Vinyl, and has created over 600 works of art in front of audiences around the USA and Canada. She's illustrated over a dozen children's books for First Nations communities that have been used regularly in classroom settings. She's been a public school art teacher, studied art internationally, and grew up in northern Quebec where her best friend was a surly bear for which this book is based off of.
Risks and challenges
We'll be using the Amazon publishing company Create Space to print this book. They've done many coloring books before that have come out in very high quality and we trust that they'll do another great job with this one.
We aim to have the books delivered by December, but some unforeseen circumstances may inhibit that. For instance, if this campaign is a weird runaway success, Elizabeth may need more time to finish the extra stretch goal pieces for the book. We have ample time scheduled out to help accommodate such an thing, but still, who knows what will happen? We promise to inform all backers of the progress every step of the way, regardless of what happens.
Elizabeth is in the band Pocket Vinyl, and they have run very smooth Kickstarter campaigns successfully in the past and know what the deal is. Yet still, things do arise, but like we said, we'll inform you about them all every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
