About

This short video demonstrates the functionality of the Pocket PHP.

Before using  a club, shift your weight from foot to foot to get the feel of the amount of compression it takes to activate the clicking sound.  The Pocket PHP is designed to roll with your foot during your golf swing.  After you get the feel, pick up a club and practice your swing with the correct swing shift.

Why Kickstarter and my plan?

Hi, my name is Carl Papa, Jr. Thanks so much for stopping by. With your help, I would like to launch the Pocket PHP. Taking the Pocket PHP to market is a long, expensive, and tedious process. I am ready to move forward with your help. The mold alone for the Pocket PHP is approximately $15,000. Other cost involves buying materials, device components, marketing, pad printing and more. I have a few prototypes used in design and functionality refinement and now I have started production. The mold has already been made by Jim Ellis Co. in Gray TN. The product itself is being injection molded by Mayes Bros. Tool Mfg. Co. located in Johnson City, TN. It is made In two parts, the top and the bottom. Mayes Bros. also does the pad printing on the tops. They then send the finished parts to my home where I put the parts in together and test the product. I will be selling the product on my website and hope to sell large quantities to stores and pro shops. If the campaign is successful, I will be shipping the first run of Pocket PHPs in March, 2013. This is why I am here and why I need your help. I have some cool rewards for you, including your name (if you want) on my website.

Pocket PHP v Pin High Pro

I developed the Pin High Pro (PHP) in 2009 after realizing I was having trouble shifting my weight properly before hitting the golf ball. As I looked out over the driving range, I noticed other golfers were also not shifting weight to the front foot properly. The PHP is lightweight and portable and designed for the golfer to take anywhere. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=lLcoJi_28Ss. I received my first patent on the PHP on March 15, 2011, see http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7,905,796.PN.&OS=PN/7,905,796&RS=PN/7,905,796. I made two (2) improvements on the PHP. I received my second patent on October 4, 2011, see http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=8029381.PN.&OS=PN/8029381&RS=PN/8029381 and, my third patent on July 3, 2012, see http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=8210963.PN.&OS=PN/8210963&RS=PN/8210963.

The Pocket PHP is lightweight, ultra-portable and small enough enough to fit in your pocket. It is made of high quality materials. I applied for my forth patent in October of 2012. The US Patent office has approved the functionally of the Pocket PHP and I am waiting for the assignment of a new patent number.

My Accomplishments -- Guinness World Record

In June of 2012, I decided to launch a challenge in Knoxville, TN that would brand my product The Pin High Pro, raise money for the American Cancer Society and have fun.  Our challenge was called "Mission Impossiball" and was scheduled to take place at The Fairways and Greens in Knoxville, TN.  The challenge would start on Friday, October 21 at mid-night and end at mid-night Sunday, October 23.  The idea was for families to come to Fairways and Greens and for $10.00 an hour hit as many balls as they wanted.  This one hour time frame would include anyone in Knoxville, scratch golfers, to families choosing to bring children.  Our initial thought was that we would have a line in front of the driving range approximately 25 yards out.  All balls hit during this 72 hour period would be counted towards a "Million Ball Challenge".  While organizing this event we also thought it would be a good idea to try and set a Guinness World Record.  I applied for a challenge attempt with Guinness seeking to set a record of the largest group of golfers to hit golf balls over a 72 hour period.  Guinness responded to my application and said my request was too broad and would be very difficult to verify the number of balls hit because of the logistics at the golf center.   Since I sent a fee with my application Guinness responded with an alternate challenge. The challenge they offered was that I could select a team of 12 golfers and with one golfer hitting at a time into a specific target area; we could accept the challenge in this new category created for us.  The specifics of the challenge were hitting from a driving mat, off of a rubber tee.  Golfers needed to hit a ball within a 30 degree arc from the rubber tee and travel at least 100 yards. Only one golfer could hit at a time, but the team of 12 could alternate in any matter I choose with the understanding that once the 24 hour clock started absolutely nothing could stop the clock.  Guinness set the new category at 20,000 golf balls; therefore our team would have to hit 20,001 to set a record in this category.

We were not able to include the Guinness challenge during the "Mission Impossiball" event.  We did however advance the name Pin High Pro (PHP) in the Knoxville community.  We also raised $3,800.00 which was presented to the American Cancer Society.  Many, many Knoxville families also had fun hitting golf balls at this event for a worthwhile cause.

The Guinness challenge was scheduled to begin on Monday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. and end on 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012.  This event was scheduled at Dead Horse Lake Golf Course in Knoxville, TN.  I selected my team of 12.  As the captain, I needed 11 more members which included my friends and golfing buddies.  We had several try outs at Dead Horse Lake to be certain each golfer could hit approximately 14 balls a minute with each golfer’s time segment being approximately 10 minutes.  Although, this was very difficult for all of us to achieve initially, with practice, we were able to increase speed and endurance.  This event also required a surveyed area, live video camera, eye witnesses, and flood lights needed during night time.  The event began as scheduled and at the end of the 24 hour period, official record keepers were able to determine that we hit a total of 35,761 balls, however, 2,292 balls landed outside of the target area.  This left us a qualified 33,469 balls in the target area, exceeding the goal set by Guinness by 15,000 golf balls.  We received an official certificate from Guinness on October, 2, 2012 giving us the record of "The most golf balls driven into a target area in 24 hours by a team of 12".

After the Guinness challenge was over, I completed the design on a new swing aid which I named the Pocket Pin High Pro (Pocket PHP).  This new product confirms the golfer’s weight has shifted to the front foot by a clicking sound.  This product is ultra-light, ultra-portable and can actually fit into the golfer’s pocket.

Risks and challenges

Fully funding this project. One of my greatest challenges is convincing Major Golf Distributors to carry my swing aid as part of their product line. I also plan to sell the Pocket Pin High Pro through Golf Pro Shops. A risk is always having someone infringe on the patent.

Your reward is the original PHP – the swing aid that beeps as your weight shifts to the front foot. This idea/invention started the swing aid that confirms weight shift to the front foot enabling golfers to establish muscle memory in shifting weight to the front foot before hitting the ball with fewer swing thoughts. Golfers, you can practice with the original PHP indoors provided there is room to swing your club, (see - my website, www.pinhighpro.com, and You Tube for videos of many golfers using the original PHP.), Four (4) Pocket PHPs (one for each buddy in your foursome), and a copy of my certificate from Guinness World Records signed by Carl Papa (Captain).
