UN FILM D'ANIMATION POUR TRANSMETTRE...

This movie is dedicated to a family audience, it is a message to the new generation, a support to explain the unexplainable, a way to talk about the Holocaust without traumatizing the youngest.

LET'S TALK!

This is the subject of the movie, it is not easy to talk about the Holocaust, and survivors did not talk neither to their families... In front of atrocity, people are mute... But today it is important to talk, more than ever, and that is why we decided to make this movie. To let people talk, to explain to the youngest.

The tone of the story, the use of humour and the son’s point of view, added to the “distance” given by the use of animation rather than live images, will allow a young audience.

WE NEED YOU!

Because we are an independent studio and right now we are very closed to be able to launch the production, we just need a small kick and we count on you!! This project costs several million euros, you'll be proud to have participated and we thank you already!

But we need you as well and most of all because this project is already gathering people to talk. They talk about their own experience, we discovered that million of people, of survivor's child, have lived the same thing than Michel Kichka, and we want to create around the movie, some discussions, some materials for schools, some educative contents. The movie will be such a good "support" to begin discussions.

The graphic autobiographic novel by Michel Kichka (illustrator and cartoonist born in 1954) Second Generation: What I did not tell my father, was published by DARGAUD in 2012 and is published in Italy, Germany, Israël, Turkey, Greece and Mexico.

In the form of a comic, the artist tells about his relationship with his father Henri, the only survivor of the Holocaust in his family. The narrative, conducted from the son’s point of view, shows that the father’s experience of Auschwitz significantly affected both the lives of individual members of the post-war family as well as many aspects of their life, such as the up-bringing of children, communal eating and celebration of holidays.

AN ADAPTATION VERY CLOSED TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGNS

UNE ADAPTATION TRES PROCHE DU DESSIN ORIGINAL

From the beginning, the idea was to stick to the original drawings.

THE STORY / L'histoire

Henry, a deported to Auschwitz, is one of the few survivors of the Holocaust. Back home he marries and has four children. He is unable to talk about his deportation. The lack of understanding sets among the family. Kids wonder about their father 's past, his secrets, laugh at him kindly taking, for example, the number on his arm for a phone number, or wondering why he declares an excellent school certificate his "revenge on Hitler". After the Eichmann trial, the father decides that this horror must be known to never happen again. He returns to Auschwitz with students. It will take all his time and often forsake his children who criticize his long absences ... But children grow up and they finally understand the need to share his essential testimony.

Michel Kichka, one of Henry's children, has told the true story of his family in a comic book. The film will keep his attitude: telling about a childhood and adolescence under the ever present knowledge of the Shoah within a wide range of frightening and happy experiences and even hilariously funny moments.

Why Pledge Money On Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is about giving, receiving, becoming part of a community, and meeting challenging goals. Because you donate to make our film possible, we want to reward your commitment and generosity. To the right is a list of rewards, organized in ascending value, according to the amount you pledge. With these rewards you will get the movie of course, but you can also learn more about the filmmaking process itself. And you can even help us shape the film. €100,000 is the goal we must reach; otherwise we get nothing. Can we go beyond it? Yes! As Second Generation approaches its world premiere there will be many more bills to pay. In the making of an animated film, as you can gather, the need for money is endless.

The project is almost financed but as usual, the last € are the most difficult to find. We are not a big major studio, we are professionals and we know how to drive and produce an animated movie but we are an independent studio and we are proud of it because we have always been creatively speaking free!

Our Kickstarter campaign is very important to us, because we are now really close to launch the production and we could not think a second not to do it.

The script and the storyboard are ready and if we reach our 100 000€ goal, we will be able to launch the production right away, and deliver the movie within 18 months. But of course, the more money we receive, the quicker we could deliver the movie!

But more than money, what is really really important for us, is to gathered people, from everywhere, from every religion, around this subject and let all people unite in the memory.

We already received messages and comments on our videos, and... this is really touching, very emotional and brought tears to our eyes.

That is what we want today, let the people join together, to help making a memory movie, to transmit to the future generation.

Here under is how we're going to use the money we raised. As you can see, 50% of the global amount will go into the animation, because we think this project has to be animated correctly. We want to work with the best animators.

Thank you, thank you so much and don't forget to spread the word about this project!

To the right is a list of rewards.

If you want and if you can afford it of course, you can pledge money on this project to help us reach our goal and let this project become a reality! Just choose a reward within the list on the right of the page, and pledge. You are now a member of the community and you will be informed of how the project is going and will receive all information concerning it, until the project is done!

If we do not achieve our goal, your pledge will not be debited from your credit card. If we achieve our goal, your pledge will be debited and you will receive your reward when the movie will be completed, within 18 months. We know 18 months sounds like it is very far from now, but it is the usual time used to make a 80 minutes animated movie.

  • For 15€ you will receive a High definition digital copy of the movie.
  • For 30€, you will receive as well the original soundtrack of the movie and your name will be added into our ending credits.
  • For 50€ we will add on top of all the previous things, a signed copy of an original cartoon made by the author Michel Kichka.
  • For 90€ you will receive as well the Artbook of the movie with original sketches, pages from the storyboard, graphic researches, images from the movie etc…
  • For 200€, add the script of the movie
  • For 600€, we propose to you that your name appear IN the movie, not only in the ending credits, but inside the movie we will create a special place just for your name, on a wall in the background, or like a brand on a car or on a billboard somewhere. Of course if you want to feature the name of a friend or of your relatives, there’s no problems!
  • For 1500 € you will be added in the movie as a secondary character! After the success of the campaign, we will ask you some pictures of you (or someone you want to be featured in the movie, with his/her authorization of course!) and we will create your character so that you could see you moving!
  • For 3000 € you will be named Associate Producer in the ending credits, plus you get all the other rewards.
  • For 6000€, you will be invited (transport not included) during the Cannes Festival for 2 days and 2 nights with the guest of your choice, and we will organize just for you a wonderful evening with the complete team of the movie, including a dinner on the French Riviera and of course, we prepared just for you a lot of surprises! Do you want to walk the French famous red carpet?

Risks and challenges

We have the experience and the know-how, we've been producing animation and movies since more than 20 years. We are working hard to create, produce, and fully realize this project.

All that said, unforeseen issues can occur and while we will provide updates on our production, the hope is for the grace and patience of our backers that should accompany any artistic endeavor. Thank you!
