The wonderfully amazing success of both the original LightBox Photography Cards and the follow up Macro Edition were huge game changers for me . . . and I am beyond thrilled to announce the third deck in the LightBox Photography Card Series: Mobile Edition!
Before we get into the details of the new deck, I just wanted to review what a whirlwind the last 15 months have been with LightBox Photography Cards! We've shipped to over 35 different countries and have been featured on countless popular web sites focusing on photography. Hundreds of decks haven been donated to schools around the globe! All this attention and good will could not have happened without YOU - my amazing backers!!!
As before, this deck offers up 52 photo challenges, this time geared towards the mobile device photographer - that is, phones and tablets! While I shoot with Apple products - the iPhone and iPad, we're not limited to just that platform! There are a host of amazing camera phones, tablets and apps out there! As always, this is about vision - never about gear!
Each card drawn will issue a subject, offer up a bit of advice/wisdom/aimless meandering and highlight some gear or tips and tricks you might find useful. Below the challenge will be a sample image showcasing how I went about fulfilling the challenge and what apps I used to help finesse the image to match my vision. You can use this image as inspiration - or go in a completely different direction - the choice is yours!
Once you have your shot, you're welcome to share your image on one of the many social media outlets on which LightBox has a presence - Made especially easy now that we're all shooting on our mobile devices!!
Get comments and critiques from the many LightBox users out there! I am always excited to see how the cards are being used, so I am usually one of the first ones to offer up a comment or two! You can find LightBox Photography Cards on Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Instagram!
This time around, while we always focus on photography, we'll be able to showcase some of the amazing apps that transform our images from the familiar to the fantastic. There will be many conventional challenges, but there will also by some very creative ones, like, for example, "Photograph the Fantastic" or Photograph the Paranormal" Below each sample image will be some info on the apps used to achieve certain effects - whenever possible, I've tried to use apps that are cross platform (iOs or Andorid, etc.).
One of the pledge tiers I am most excited about is the "Education Ambassador" tier. For your support of $100, you will get 10 decks of LightBox Photography Cards: Mobile Edition . . . in addition to your rewards, I'll be sending you an additional 10 decks for you to distribute to your favorite school, camera club or photo enthusiast. Also - for the first time - Education Ambassadors get FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING!! I do a lot of talks at high schools about photography and it's just about the most rewarding experience of my career. Pledging for this tier will help me help YOU spread the joys of photography into your own community!
Now let's get down to the fun stuff!! Stretch Goals!! Many of you who backed the first two LightBox campaigns were thrilled with the freebies offered up as stretch goals . . . and they are back! Some the same . . . some freshened up a bit for the new deck!! I am going to reveal the first two stretch goals on launch - then move on from there!
The first goal is easily broken at $8,000 . . . and this concept proved to be the most popular during the last two campaigns. The Virtual Mobile Edition will contain 12 brand new images available as a PDF to download for free! This will be delivered way before the rewards ship, so you'll get an early jump on creativity!
Next up, if we break $12,000, every backer gets a branded Pen/Stylus for their note taking and photo editing needs! These were super popular during my last few campaigns and the pen itself, is getting an upgrade! Nothing but the best for my backers! You can also add this onto your pledge for $1.00 each once we hit the $12k Stretch Goal!
Brand new to any LightBox campaign is our new 16K stretch goal . . . the LightBox Lens Cloth! If we unlock this one, every backer gets a free lens cloth that is perfect for keeping your mobile devices clean and smudge free!!
Speaking of add-ons, let's talk about them . . . Those of you who backed the last few projects I've done will recognize some of these . . . to get your add-ons, simply click the "mangage" button to increase your pledge amount with the prices below! After the campaign wraps, you'll be able to tell me how your funding is allocated in the Kickstarter Survey.
I am most excited about the LightBox Photography Cards: The Wedding Edition featured add-on. These are 52 must have shots if you ever find yourself shooting a wedding.
The deck will feature what I like to call 'heirloom' shots' . . . Images that will be passed down through generations. These are shots that will end up being the bride's favorite images from the big day. Rather than the typical posed photos normally associated with weddings, this deck will challenge you to shoot the festivities with a more discerning eye - focusing in on the details of what makes a wedding so special - including the bride and groom, of course!
If you'd like to add-on this deck to your pledge, hit the "manage' button after you've backed and increase your amount by $10.00 for US backers or $12.00 for International backers.
I am also very excited to be able to bring these amazing aluminum card cases to the Mobile Edition campaign! These sleek cases will fit right in your pocket or camera bag and keep your cards well protected.
The outside lid will be branded with the LightBox Photography Cards: Mobile Edition to distinguish it from the other cases you might have! The cases are $12 for both domestic and international backers!
I've come up with a BRAND NEW add-on that I think will appeal to some of you - especially you folks who love to display your rewards! A recent hobby of mine has been the construction of various slipcases - I am an avid book collector and, while I love having my books on display, dust is one sure way to ruin a treasured tome! So I began looking at how to create slipcases and have been enjoying it ever since! I thought I'd put together a "Bespoke" Slipcase for the 4 decks of LightBox Photography Cards! Pictured below is the prototype case and is fitted with 2 original decks and to Macro Edition decks. If you pledged for the Mobile Edition and added-on the Wedding Edition, this case will make the perfect home for your entire set of LightBox Photography Cards!
Each case is hand made with only the finest papers and materials available and comes with embellished corners! If this is something you simply must have, hit the "manage pledge" button and add on $20.00 (cards not included) to your pledge - that's for both Domestic and International backers!!
And now for another limited edition pledge tier! There are only 5 Collector's Sets availabe . . . get them while you can! Details in the pic below!
Finally - a one time chance to get your work published in the Mobile Edition of LightBox Photography Cards. For a pledge of $250.00, you get to pick the challenge and it's YOUR image that is on the card with a proper photo credit!
So that's going to do it for the launch of LightBox Photography Cards: Mobile Edition! Keep an eye out for campaign updates and all the fun stuff that goes along with a crowd funded project. We're shooting for a August/September 2016 fulfillment - that's far enough away to account for any issues in production and to accommodate a lofty goal of printing not one, but two new decks!
Thank you so much for your time and consideration . . . There are so many options to learn the craft of photography and I am so grateful for the opportunity to add my own unique take on this wonderful, creative outlet of ours . . . it's such an exciting time!!
Risks and challenges
As with any project of this size, obstacles are bound to happen, but with over 20 years in the publishing/graphic design industry, I know I can produce these cards with little or no hiccups on the production side. I am partnering up with the amazing folks over at AdMagic (http://www.admagic.com), who made my last two LightBox decks, and am thrilled to be working with them yet again! To me, nothing is more important than putting out a quality product – especially one that has my name attached to it – and I know the team at AdMagic feel the same way.
I've learned a lot from shipping out the first LightBox deck and will again be using U-line boxes to ship out all rewards and minimize any potential postal mishaps. While this does cost a bit more, shipping with U-line boxes proved very effective during the first two campaigns with not a single deck damaged en route!
As far as risks, there are none that I can see outside the obvious - I'll be crushed if this project doesn't achieve its final goal. But that said - if we achieve our goal, the cards will be produced and find their way into your eager hands!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
