KICKSTARTER BLOC PARTY - BROOKLYN
Approach the whole headphone experience from a totally different perspective, including using wooden ear cups, for a natural organic feel, as music should be.
Bring a better and greener alternative to a product that’s mass produced, mass consumed and mass trashed.
Offer people the option of having their headphones personalized using their own materials! Repurpose dead skateboards, and upcycle them into unique headphones.
Offer a bad-ass rugged but still-classy look that will only get better as the headphones age – thanks to their vintage RCA plugs!
LKPR (Low-Key Product Rejuvenation) Headphones
The name No Comply is a wink at skateboarding in the ’80s and great skateboarders like Ray Barbee and Tommy Guerrero, as well as at today’s great musicians and songwriters.
Mid-sized on-ear headphones. Comfortable, and designed to take life’s hard knocks in stride for many years of use. The wood ear cups are made from hard maple, which gives an organic feel to music and, thanks to its high density, provides natural noise cancelling. A closed dynamic transducer with a titanium diaphragm and a neodymium magnet combine to precisely reproduce every sound across the entire audible frequency range, even from low-powered portable devices. All headphones will be backed by a full one-year warranty from date of delivery.
Wood: Rock Hard Canadian Maple. For the same reasons skateboards are made of this stuff. Only the best! Music is organic. Your headphones should be too.
The ear cups are made from locally grown hard Canadian maple provided by FSC certified suppliers. Maple is durable, solid and provides a unique detailed tone. Each ear cup is sealed with a water-based low-VOC finish for lifelong durability with minimal pollution. Maple’s high density also offers very good natural insulation from external noises, providing natural noise cancelling!
Metal: because it’s not plastic!
- Hardware made from lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum for a virtually unbreakable design.
- Steel structure made from high-memory spring steel formed to keep the right amount of pressure on your ears use after use.
Natural Leather: because it’s natural.
- Ear pads: thin, breathable natural leather that feels light and won’t leave your ears sweaty and greasy.
- Headband: matte black or brown natural leather that fits the curve of your head perfectly for incredible comfort. The suede texture inside combines with a wide design to ensure the headphones will not slip off, like some plastic headbands do.
RCA plugs: gold-plated RCA plugs offer the best possible connection. Since most headphone failures have to do with the cable, this design simplifies cable replacement and minimizes the risk of accidental cable breakage. The headphones come with a 6-foot (2-meter) cable. Should the cable failure, replacements are easy to find at any electronics store.
Plastic: kept to a minimum. Our goal is to reduce it to next to none in the near future. Because plastic sucks.
Rich sound that audiophiles will love. The sound is full, engaging, crisp and warm, designed for any kind of listening. We use high quality hi-fi 40 mm drivers to reproduce sound with minimal noise and distortion, and an accurate frequency response. Combined with the hard maple ear cups, the result is simply incredible – and unique to LKPR headphones.
Rich, deep bass creates a warm, comfortable sensation.
Sound-pressure intensity is maintained for good presence to most musical instruments and human voices.
Treble frequencies are still highly audible with good sound pressure and no loss of the immersive experience created by the 20–2,000 Hz range.

Most consumer products don’t withstand test of time. Either the technology becomes obsolete, they break down, are poorly designed or just fall out of fashion. Sadly, all too often, products are not disposed of properly and end up in the trash bin.
Since most headphones are essentially plastic, when they hit the landfill, they stay there. Forever! Even worse, plastic is now affecting the food chain and killing us straight from where all life began... the ocean!
“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Albert Einstein
As a manufacturer, we have to see further down the road and adapt our products to the plastic menace we now all face. Our goal and vision is to bring back the plastic-free products we once enjoyed!
We have already invested a huge amount of money into R&D and product development. The amounts initially invested have brought the product to the point of production as it is now presented to you through this Kickstarter campaign.
To commercialize this product, we need more funds. This money will be used mainly to cover specific tooling costs and for initial procurement of parts to allow volume pricing.
We have set the reserve at C$25,000. This amount is needed to give us the momentum to reach the next level. This campaign is really the turning point. Your backing will help us launch our first production run!
LAST MINUTE REWARD!
The finest cans deserve the finest case. In a VERY limited offer, you can customize your No Comply to your very personal preferences: cups, hardware and fasteners. Case is hand crafted from a fellow Montrealer, Jesse at Dominion Leather.
Risks and challenges
Most design challenges have already been met. Scaling the prototype run into major production will bring many new challenges, but this is what we love and are good at.
Most of our partners are local and suppliers with whom we have already worked. We know their capacity and how they operate. We have established solid relationships built on know-how and trust gained over time through multiples successful projects.
We plan to start shipping in September. As the project evolves, backers will have the opportunity to accompany us on this journey and will be advised of any changes or decisions that weren't planned.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Nearby Montreal, in Canada. Bromont to be exact for most part. We master and control every parts and sub-assemblies of the whole process. Some we make ourselves, some we subcontract to experts nearby.
The goal here is to democratize the concept of swappable/replaceable cable with a widely available open standard. At the moment, the female part on the cup is a Switchcraft USA with a thick gold plating, not just gold flash stuff. No, this ain’t cheap.
There is one year warranty against failure. Just send it back for repair. We will make parts available if you want to personalize or mod your very own pair. The design is thought to be easy for repairs and mods.
In our North American reality, manufacturing low volume parts by qualified local labor in such materials is very expensive. The question should be more: Is it still possible to manufacture headphones in Canada in our global economy? We hope so. Other than “buying is voting”, we believe that you will get headphones that worth the asked price for their quality and expected life.
Their simple look goes with the initial idea: rugged, easily serviceable and efficient. Not the kind of approach we often see these days. At the time we are writing this, over 113 backers are proving us right!
