PleaseNotes is a company rooted in the belief that everyone is capable of doing amazing things, if they believe they can do it. We want to make quality items that remind and re-enforce qualities in people that allow them to do more, be more and have more!
I was at a point in my life where I thought something was seriously wrong with me. I was literally living the American Dream. I moved from Canada and had great friends, a great apartment, and was employed. What else could I want? But I kept having this nagging feeling that what I was doing wasn’t right for me. I was miserable because I felt everything I did wasn't useful. No matter how much time, effort, overtime I did, it didn't make a difference. I felt I was responsible to make sure we had enough income to take care of everyone. I felt responsible for making sure people felt safe and supported. I felt responsible because I felt I had to be the one to help everyone get their goals. There was so much I felt I was failing at. When thoughts of changing my situation came up, I felt guilty! "Do you know how lucky you are?” “Do you know how many people would love to be in your shoes?” is what I told myself, so I kept shaking it off and putting more effort into my work. Then I had a moment, well a couple of them before I actually listened. Like when you’re in a relationship and get that moment of clarity and know you have to break up. I was pouring so much of myself into everything and everyone else, I wasn't taking care of myself. So I took a risk. I quit my job. Gave my 2 weeks and everything with no back up plan. (Sorry Mom!!!) It was one of the best gifts I ever gave myself. I was always really good at feeling out what wasn't working for me, but never thought I could create something that I loved.
After ‘doing me’ for a bit I had this idea. I had been working a lot with affirmations, journalling and gratitude. It was amazing because I literally got to practice creating who I wanted to be from the inside, out. I was with a friend and I told him about this idea I had. “What do you think about creating sticky notes with different affirmations on every page?” I’ve had ideas before, but none that struck me the way this did, and definitely none that I have allowed anyone else to hear. Sharing something that I thought might be a great idea felt like a huge risk for me and super scary saying it out loud! At that moment, PleaseNotes was born.
The Journal is a paper journal designed for you to question and discover your current life, and to explore and create what you really want. It’s even got a place for you to do your gratitude work and a great place for you to make your own affirmations based on how you would like your life to be. Are you ready for a change? - Have you had a thought about something you want to do be or have, and then “that voice” comes in your head. The one that tells you no, you can’t do this because of X, Y, or Z. That you would be crazy to try. That it will never work. What if you could send that voice packing? The more you craft, repeat and affirm great things about yourself, the more capable you feel. The Journal has an exercise that allows you to create your affirmations, add to them over time, and reinforce them on the journal pages by using your PleaseNotes.
Did you want to get rid of stress, fear or anxiety? - It’s proven that writing out your thoughts and feelings helps you gain perspective on life events and provides a space for you to be creative, which is necessary for problem solving and generation of new ideas, products, or necessary play. In addition, practicing gratitude is one of the best ways do dissolve stress. By focusing on all the positives in your life, the issues you are currently dealing with feel smaller. When you switch from panic to calm, it's easier for your brain to find solutions to current issues.
Is your confidence or self-esteem in need of a boost? - What would you do if you believed in yourself more? Ask for that raise? Start that business? End that toxic relationship? Buy that outfit you really want? Enter that competition? The only way to increase confidence is from the inside out. The more you practice it, the more the results show up in your life. The exercises in the Journal Juice section help you create your new foundation and build yourself up and into the person you want to be.
Did you want more fun in your life? - Fun might not be a priority, but it’s necessary for overall health! We’re not saying to use the Journal to plan your next Vegas trip (it is an option), however playing with your imagination is important. Since there isn’t a set structure to the Journal, you can use it whatever way suits you, for multiple projects, for planning, or just for a place to put your feelings. The Journal also comes with a couple exercises that will allow you to create a snapshot of your dream. An Ideal Scene allows you to play with what would life be like when you go on that vacation you always wanted, or you hit that weight loss goal? What would you be thinking, feeling, smelling, tasting, experiencing in those moments? How excited would you be? Allow yourself to play in those experiences, and then dare to create it in your real life!
The initial goal will cover all costs with creating, producing and shipping the first large scale order of The Journal and the PleaseNotes Sticky Notes. One of the main drives of PleaseNotes is to support people in various ways, especially in a time of need. In alignment with that, PleaseNotes will always be contributing a percentage of proceeds towards organizations that provide support to humanity. 10% net proceeds after this Kickstarter will support these organizations!
The first cause we are pledging to is the relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. By helping PleaseNotes get started, you allow us to help others too.
One of the things I'm excited about is if we hit the stretch goals, I'm able to give you more gifts and color options! The additional funds will allow me to get some essential business support, like marketing and an updated website, to really help the company grow!
