What's in the box?
Ancient Terrible Things: The Lost Charter is a travel expansion pack for the pulp horror dice game, Ancient Terrible Things. The expansion includes 54 new, unique cards, including Encounters, Achievements, Feat and Swag, travel-ready Location cards, Character Perks, three new Revelation dice, and a full colour rulebook with details of travel set-up and new card effects. Additionally, the expansion comes in a compact travel-friendly box with a raised dice-roller platform.
The expansion introduces new mechanics and card types to compliment the base game, without adding unnecessary complexity. These include:
Revelation Encounters - which add a Revelation die to your dice pool. Revelation die can only be used for overcoming the Encounter dice combination, and not for gaining Resources.
Warning Encounters - in which a Terrible Thing token is removed from the Expedition track if you fail to overcome the Encounter, but the token is not added to your stash.
Event Encounters - which replace the Location Action on a Location, and introduce ongoing game effects, until a character thwarts the Event.
Ancient Terrible Things: 2nd Edition is a re-print and minor update of the base game (which is now as scarce in game stores, as sanity in the jungle!)
The 2nd Edition changes from 1st Edition include: an updated and revised rulebook, game-board with adjusted Trading Post/Riverboat space, revised Achievement card graphic design, and an optional Re-roll track and Re-roll marker tokens (for convenient book-keeping during extended card combos) on the character mats.
The 2nd Edition rulebook will be available from 25 March 2015, as a free download from the Files section on our game page on the website Boardgamegeek.com (BGG). The first edition rulebook is currently available on that same page. Click here to visit our BGG game page.
This Kickstarter Campaign will help us, Pleasant Company Games, as a small publisher, to gauge public interest in a 2nd print run of the base game and the expansion, as well as to make the best possible version of both. By pledging your support and interest before general release, you will give both old and new backers the chance to see these products realised.
The Lost Charter cards (The Live Update.)
The expansion will include 54 new, unique cards, which will be updated in this section, throughout the course of the campaign - from concept sketches to finished artwork. This behind-the-scenes peek into the final production process will also allow backers to have creative input, suggestions, and a look into the evolving work.
Live Update #1: Travel Location cards and new Achievements
Here is the first peek at the Travel Location cards and the four new Achievement cards. (The Achievement card layout has been changed to allow for easier stacking in your score stack, whereby it remains possible to see the condition for stealing when in an opponents stack.):
Live Update #2: Character Perks
The Lost Charter introduces a new card type called Character Perks, which add a special ability to each of our four protagonists. Each character now starts with the Rescue Perk, allowing them to step into a failed Encounter of a particular type, and save the day from nefarious evils!
Next Live Update #3: the new Encounter card types
Three new Encounter card types are introduced in this expansion. Find below the work in progress for these new Encounter types. (Note, this artwork is not finalized, but is intended to show the creative process, from the artist's desk.)

Risks and challenges
Fulfilling the pledges of our Kickstarter backers is our number one priority.
Our first Kickstarter project for Ancient Terrible Things 1st edition, was delivered timeously and professionally by our fulfillment partners.
Physical fulfilment of the project will be handled by Ship Naked out of the US, who have successfully fulfilled many Kickstarter game projects.
We believe that a project should not be presented on Kickstarter, until it is 90% complete, awaiting only invaluable backer input, the final part of the creative process. Beyond the help in manufacturing costs that Kickstarter provides, the real value of Kickstarter lies in this backer feedback.
With that in mind, the game and expansion are tested and print ready, with final art creation happening throughout the campaign itself. Manufacturing is scheduled to commence within 2 weeks of the completion of this campaign, with the printers running by beginning of May 2015. From there is it a 12 week process to our fulfillment partners door. Estimated delivery is based on fulfillment to US backers, followed by Canada, EU and the Rest of the World.
