A multiplayer indie Action RPG featuring anime-styled artwork and monster girls, set in a lush world detailed right down to the pixel!
Vanity is a multiplayer free-roam Hack and Slash RPG for the PC with heavy emphasis on combat, exploration, and customization that takes place in an anime-inspired universe and aims to bring the pixel art medium of classic video games to a whole new level.
The game’s mechanics are in-depth enough for hardcore players to calculate exactly what skills and equipment are needed to achieve a specific playstyle, but easy enough for the average gamer to pick up and enjoy.
Our many inspirations include games like Diablo, Bastion, Street Fighter, League of Legends, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Don’t Starve, and artists like Okayado and Kenkou Cross.

- 7+ procedurally generated open worlds to explore! Hack and slash your way through hordes of enemies and destroy bosses or roam freely, discovering secrets strewn about the land, finding treasure, and meeting a host of interesting inhabitants.
- Full controller support! Hook up your favorite gaming controller or use the mouse+keyboard combo instead!
- A large pool of balanced, skill-based playstyles for you to tailor to your liking! You can choose from 7 base character classes to quickly get started: scout, archer, mage, engineer, medic, tank, and knight. Each class allows you to hold 6 abilities that you'll earn by mastering in the skill trees of your choice. However, not all skill trees are class-exclusive and certain weapons/equipment aren't either, giving you a much wider expanse to build your character off of!
- Extensive character customization! Change your character's outfit, hairstyle, eye color, and even species! Don't like the way your armor looks but need the equipment buff? No problem, just place another item in the corresponding vanity slot to wear that one instead at no cost to your stats!
- Multiplayer story mode at the click of a button! It’s easy to play with friends or party up by routing through our server to determine who to host - no manual port forwarding required! Or, if you’d rather play alone, single player mode is available and your character’s stats will transfer over to multiplayer.
- Fast-paced PvP arena! Test your skills, weapons, and armor through an arena mode that pits players against one another in a heated battle!
- Crafting system! Items you've collected can be combined to create stronger items in 50+ recipes, or put a bunch of items you don't want together in hopes of creating something you do!
- Your very own base to decorate and hang out in! Deck out your player dedicated base and invite your friends over to party or show off your most prized possessions to be the envy of everyone you know!
- Over 200 weapons, armor, outfits, furniture, and other items to hoard! Buff your character to perfection with hard-earned treasure from decimating enemies, boss battles, exploration, finding hidden secrets, and more!
- Buy, sell, and trade items with other players at the world marketplace! Interact with players from all around the world and help shape the economy!
The artwork for Vanity is a combination of both anime-styled and pixel art, aiming to capture the nostalgia of games you enjoyed when you were a kid, reborn into this generation with the latest techniques and technologies.
Our art team has extensive training between us, some of us having studied in Japan, worked in the gaming industry, and/or having been trained by revered instructors at the top of the animation industry. We think pictures are worth more than words here, so take a look and see what you think!
The original soundtrack for Vanity is composed by Sebastien Skaf, the same composer who did the music for the well-known visual novel Katawa Shoujo! We're very excited to have him on board our team - have a listen to one of the drafts he's whipped up:
He also did the soundtrack for the project video, so if you haven't had a listen yet, you should scroll back up to the top of the page and hit play!
The Heroes of Archaea. Thanks to them, seven independent realms were once unified as one, protected by their unmatched skill and extensive arsenal of immense magnitude, omnipotent royalty, and endless wonder.. or so the myth went. But in worlds as chaotic as these, it's rather hard to imagine the existence of such beings as Heroes. The constant toil of fighting every day for your food, shelter, and water, fending off raids and plagued intruders beats down on the inhabitants of these domains. Some worlds are united under one government, while others are ruled by many disparate factions.
As far as anyone can remember, The Order of the Open Eye has kept the seven separate worlds in order; kept them from warring between themselves. Offered resource and protection. Those who oppose their will are never seen or heard from again. Those who speak out against them are fated to disappear. This is how it is, how it always has been. The Order of the Open Eye sees all. Watching.
Play as one of seven characters in Vanity, each originating from one of the seven worlds of Archaea. Fight with swords, magic, and even your bare fists, shield your gang from hoards of enemies, or maybe offer medical aid. Whether it be offense, defense, or support, each character offers a unique playstyle that can be built off of and refined, and under your control, their skills can be honed to the maximum potential.
Eden is a close range powerhouse with a quick flurry of moves leading to a devastating finish. She is a low cost, high output fighter with an attitude. The more skills you use within a short time period, the stronger and stronger your chain of attacks will become. Just be careful, as a strong enough hit will break your combo and stun you a little. She is a good starting character, with decent enough stats.
Vi (League of Legends), Ryu (Street Fighter Series), Veiwtiful Joe (Marvel vs. Capcom 3), Chi-Chi (DragonBall Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3), Zelda/Sheik (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
With multiple deadly forms, Celeste is a mysterious powerhouse and it's hard to guess what she'll hit you with next, from her fiery dragon form leaving nothing but a burnt husk, to her owl form which will leave you in the dust. You'd better watch out, because she has 4 intricate forms, each more deadlier than the last.
Normal Form: While in this form, launch missile-like spells to destroy your opponent from a distance as well as make use of multiple elements at the same time.
Dragon Form: This form leads to some deadly close range and AOE fire that will leave you breathless.. and most likely on fire.
Sea Angel Form: Heals, shields, and stuns, oh my! Donning this form is going to grant you some nice AOE Crowd Control as well as health manipulations on both sides of the bar.
Horned Owl Form: Need some more attack speed and faster movement? Well, come on down! This form will grant that along with a slight attack boost.
Wolf Form: There is a saying in the Sideria Outlands, “Fear how the wolf howls, for it may be the last thing you hear.” Her howl sends chills through your bones and makes men weep. Burst damage and assassination is what this form thrives on.
Warwick (League of Legends), Udyr (League of Legends), Druid Class (World of Warcraft), Druid Class (Diablo 2), Shyvanna (League of Legends), Chocobo (Final Fantasy Series)
Silvia’s bow is an ancient heirloom going back to the days of high magic. By focusing her thoughts and will she can make arrows appear, notched and aimed right at the most critical spots of an enemy. High speed shots and criticals are her friends; it just takes time to set up shots upon moving.
Link (League of Zelda series), Green Arrow (Injustice: Gods Among Us), Amazon Class (Diablo 2), Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games Series), Zelda/Sheik (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
Mya is ever tinkering, building bigger and bigger war machines. While everything doesn’t always go as planned, the booms the robots create make good campfires to roast marshmallows on while planning the next big thing. Prepare for lots of minions and lots of explosions from this little firecracker.
Necromancer Class (Diablo 2), Ziggs (League of Legends), Deadpool (Marvel vs. Capcom 3)
With flesh as strong as iron, Vincent doesn’t need to wear armor and would prefer much more to show off his sculpted pecs. Hailing from a far off tundra, he trains every day in the ice and snow to perfect his own style of martial arts. No matter the damage paid to him, he will return it back to you.. plus some extra with his mighty fists of fury.
Paladin Class (World of Warcraft), Paladin Class (Diablo 2), Reflection (Elder Scrolls: Oblivion)
Her squishy form holds a soft heart, but a strong determination. Kimi is a nurse with attitude and depending on how she feels towards you at that moment will tell whether you will get healed or hurt. Specializing in healing balms and poisons, her skills take some time so make sure you have some room to wait for your “medicines” to take effect.
Priest Class (World of Warcraft), Paladin Class (Diablo 2), Compa (Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation), Elixir (X-Men: Battle of the Atom)
Flashing around the battlefield, Damian strikes with deadly accuracy. Using his main ability, any and all other abilities have added range as he quickly teleports into striking distance and then back into safety. A medium range and weight fighter to suit the traditional hack and slash player in us. Just be careful; take a strong enough hit and you’re not gonna be teleporting anywhere.
Fiora (League of Legends), Master Yi (League of Legends), Goku (Dragon Ball Z Series), Red (Transistor)
We know character customization can grant a much deeper connection to the world within a game since you feel the character really represents you, which is why we're going the extra mile in our efforts to allow you to change your character's appearance with different items. Worth it!
You can change your character's outfit, hairstyle, eye color, and even species with different items! Don't like the way your armor looks but need the equipment buff? No problem, just place another item in the corresponding vanity slot to wear that one instead at no cost to your stats! You can also tailor your character's weaponry and abilities to those that best suit your personal preferences.
Vanity is divided up into 7 worlds with levels that intelligently change each time you play through the game. Little secrets and traps are strewn about and will never quite be the same - find a treehouse inhabited by tiny glowing fairies? A rabbit burrow that turns into a giant treasure-packed cave? Played through a level before and go back to an area where you found treasure before only to find out it’s a monstrous mimic instead? We’d like every experience to feel like an adventure!
Each realm is hand-drawn, quite literally pixel by pixel, to create a world of astonishing depth and detail for such tiny drawings. The more money we can raise through Kickstarter, the more details and secrets we can add into the game!
To ensure Vanity is both challenging and rewarding, enemy stats and behavior will be tailored to different strengths and weaknesses to make you think about which approach to take and what skills to use when fighting them alone or with others. They will increase in difficulty as your character or party becomes more skilled, from the most basic of enemies all the way up to minibosses. There will, of course, be rigorous playtesting in multiple iterations to ensure everything is well balanced, first by our in-house QAs and then by external alpha and beta testers.
Unfortunately, we can’t reveal much about how the boss fights in Vanity will play without spoiling the game for you. These monsters will dwell in the dark psychological depths of faults and fears to make your heart pound and your hands sweat as you face each nightmare. What lurks at the bottom of these so-called depths? You’ll just have to find out...
MULTIPLAYER STORY MODE: Journey with allies or as a lone rogue through the lands of Archaea. Vanity will offer concurrent multiplayer with the ease of clicking a button -- no manual port forwarding or hassle required! Just party up and our server will determine who has the best connection to host peer to peer. This eliminates the need to be connected to a dedicated server the whole time, meaning that the game can be picked up years later without the worry of not being able to connect. So gather up your friends, no matter where in the world they might live, and immerse yourselves into the unknown!
ARENA MODE: Feel like honing your skills in combat? Can't wait to test out the new build you've been working on? Head on down to the PvP arena to have a heated battle with friends or foes! Your character’s stats will transfer over between single player and multiplayer.
WORLD MARKETPLACE: Vanity will feature a world marketplace where you can trade weapons, items, and resources with allies and unknown strangers alike!
3rd Wall Studios is an indie video game studio founded by Matthew Fisher and Kiana Mosser primarily based in Los Angeles, California. Our team's skillsets range from extensive experience in art, pixel art, animation, programming, writing, and music. We're gamers at heart and are passion-driven to create fun and immersive games for players just like us to enjoy, whether it's alone or with friends.
If we can fund Vanity, it will help us cement our game studio to make many more games to come!
If you want to learn more about our team, click HERE!
Since 3rd Wall Studios is a small indie studio, the reality is we don't have access to the funds we need to finish Vanity. The development of Vanity so far has been running on startup funding out of our own pockets and a few small donations from friends, which was enough to cover company costs and complete several months' worth of work on the game in the programming, music, art, and writing departments. The game is several months into development now, which means we have to raise the remaining funds we need to finish generating all the game assets!
With your help through Kickstarter, we're hoping to meet our goal so we can finish the game! It would be a dream come true and we'd be forever grateful to everyone who helped us make our start. We've been working super hard up to this point, but the fate of Vanity is in your hands now - help spread the word and donate if you can! Every little bit helps! Let's make this game happen!

Risks and challenges
We're aware every project has its own challenges and potential obstacles, which is why we've come prepared to handle anything that arises from the depths of the future. Our team is not new to making or coding games, and many of us have worked together on artwork for games and other projects in the past. Our industry-streamlined process of working is tried and true by companies such as Disney, WayForward Technologies, and Lab Zero Games. We have many industry contacts to talk to for advice if faced with a situation we haven’t dealt with before. All of our files are backed up both on and offsite in multiple locations daily and are version controlled. We have backup hardware and access to multiple repair shops in case someone's computer, tablet, etc. decides to fail. We plan every feature out on a timeline far in advance and think about potential problems and costs that may arise and how to remedy them. We have a project manager keeping careful records of our progress and deadlines using Jira, and our finances and cash flow are carefully managed to the cent through Excel. Before deciding to add any new assets or features to the game, we discuss it with all of our departments and check that it’s well within our time and budget to do. We always make sure to add padding when dealing with time and money because we know how easily both of these things can accidentally go to waste, and it’s very important to us that promises are kept. Some of these things might seem redundant, but you can never be too careful!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
